The prime minister said the Budget, to be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday, will strive to fulfil people's hopes, aspirations and also boost the hopes with which the world is looking at India.

The tax rate for individuals has not been changed since&nbsp; FY2017-18 and the &lsquo;New Tax Regime&rsquo; announced in 2020. Therefore, middle-class want Budget 2023 to make changes to the slab rates for individuals to reduce the tax burden.&nbsp;
Another demand of the middle class is to move tuition fees of children to a separate provision from the Section 80C deductions, which already covers a lot of other investments/expenses and has a limit of just Rs. 1.5 Lakhs.

A fiscal year starts from April 1 and ends on March 31. Details of the event The budget will be presented at 11 AM on February 1 by the finance minister of India Nirmala&nbsp; Sitharaman. The budget used to be presented on the last day of February before 2016 after which the date was changed to February 1st.&nbsp;

While Ed-tech platforms are being touted as the future of the education sector, a GST of 18 per cent is discouraging the industry&rsquo;s growth. Kranthi Chand, the head of strategy and special projects, DhruvaSpace also wants the government to make a dedicated allocation of Rs 1,000 crore for the Defence Space Agency (DSA) for the procurement of new technology from the industry. According to Indian Space Association (ISpA) Director General Lieutenant General AK Bhatt (Retd), the suggestions were received from the space industry on tax policies and incentives to promote investment, research and development, and employment in the space sector.
The ISpA also wants the government to provide financial support through loans, grants and tax incentives to the companies and organisations in the space sector. India's nascent private space sector has presented a wishlist of tax incentives and a production-linked incentive scheme in the upcoming Union Budget to boost local manufacturing and spur research and development.
Considering that most space-tech companies in India are startups and access to capital is an issue, it would be beneficial to create parity in terms of the short-term capital gains tax rate and treatment with respect to listed and unlisted entities, and also provide exemption from angel tax, the ISpA said.
Bhatt also wants the government to set up space technology parks and form a group of experts for the use of the space ecosystem.&nbsp;

Ahead of the Union Budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Sunday that she was aware of the pressures of the middle class but also recalled that the present government has not imposed any fresh taxes on them.
Sitharaman will present Union Budget for 2023-24 in the Lok Sabha on February 1 amid expectations that the government will raise the income tax limit and provide relief to the middle class taxpayers, besides others.
"I too belong to the middle class so I can understand the pressures of the middle class. I identify myself with the middle class so I know," she said while speaking at a function organised by the Panchjanya magazine, an RSS- associated weekly.
In the same breath, the minister reminded the audience that the present Modi government has not imposed any fresh taxes on the middle class. Also, she added, income of up to Rs 5 lakh is exempt from the income tax.
She said the government has taken various measures like developing the metro rail network in 27 cities and building 100 smart cities to promote ease of living.
The minister assured them that the government can do more for the middle class as its population is growing and it has become sizeable now.

The Finance Minister said that the National Tele Mental Health programme would include a network of 23 Tele mental health centres of excellence. As preparation for next year's Budget gathers steam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with the Finance Minister met with leading private equity/venture capital players to seek suggestions on making India a more attractive investment destination.
"He appreciated the practical suggestions received from the representatives and said the government is committed towards working to resolve the issues and challenges highlighted," an official release said.The release further said the venture capital and private equity fund representatives also talked about the entrepreneurial potential of the country, and how it can be leveraged so that India's startups can attain global scale.
After the interaction, Munish Verma from Softbank said the investment climate in the country has become much more positive.
This, he said, could be seen in the amount of capital that has come to India, entrepreneurs that are being created and companies that are listed.
"So, overall I think it was a great interaction with the Prime Minister," he said, adding that Modi gave some very good suggestions.
Sandeep Naik from General Atlantic said such interactions inspire funds to bring more capital to India, and to back up the great startup entrepreneurs of the country.
"...we plan to invest several billions of dollars in India. We already have about USD 5 billion invested in India. And I wouldn't be surprised if in the next 10 years we invest about USD 10 to 15 billion in India, because this is one of the most critical destinations for us globally," Naik said.
Lauding the initiatives taken to boost the startup ecosystem in the country, Siddarth Pai from 3one4 termed Modi as the 'Startup Prime Minister'.
Accel's Prashant Prakash highlighted the opportunities that are present in the agri startups space, while Rajan Anandan from Sequoia suggested working towards making India the global hub in education by leveraging technology.
Vipul Roongta from HDFC said it was his first personal interaction with the Prime Minister and praised the policy initiatives that have been taken by the government in the housing sector, especially in the affordable housing segment.
Others who were part of the interaction included Gopal Srinivasan from TVS Capitals, Renuka Ramnath from Multiples, Manish Kejriwal from Kedaara Capital, Ashley Menezes from Chrys, Vineet Rai from Aavishkar, and Shweta Jalan from Advent.
Ankur Gupta from Brookfield, Mukul Arora from Elevation, Sehraj Singh from Prosus, Ranjit Shah from Gaja Capital, Sunil Goyal from Yournest and Padmanabh Sinha from NIIF too attended the meeting with the Prime Minister.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is due to present on February 1 the Budget for the next fiscal year that starts on April 1, 2022.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted a roundtable interaction to discuss making India more attractive for investments

As preparation for next year's Budget gathers steam, <a href="https://www.editorji.com/elections/up-elections/up-election-2022-pm-modi-pushes-pedal-meets-bjp-mps-from-state-rallies-lined-up-1639720100191">Prime Minister Narendra Modi</a>&nbsp;along with the Finance Minister&nbsp;met with leading private equity/venture capital players to seek suggestions on making India a more attractive investment destination.
"He appreciated the practical suggestions received from the representatives and said the government is committed towards working to resolve the issues and challenges highlighted," an official release said. The release further said the venture capital and private equity fund representatives also talked about the entrepreneurial potential of the country, and how it can be leveraged so that India's startups can attain global scale.
After the interaction, Munish Verma from Softbank said the investment climate in the country has become much more positive.
This, he said, could be seen in the amount of capital that has come to India, entrepreneurs that are being created and companies that are listed.
"So, overall I think it was a great interaction with the Prime Minister," he said, adding that Modi gave some very good suggestions.
Sandeep Naik from General Atlantic said such interactions inspire funds to bring more capital to India, and to back up the great startup entrepreneurs of the country.
"...we plan to invest several billions of dollars in India. We already have about USD 5 billion invested in India. And I wouldn't be surprised if in the next 10 years we invest about USD 10 to 15 billion in India, because this is one of the most critical destinations for us globally," Naik said.
Lauding the initiatives taken to boost the startup ecosystem in the country, Siddarth Pai from 3one4 termed Modi as the 'Startup Prime Minister'.
Accel's Prashant Prakash highlighted the opportunities that are present in the agri startups space, while Rajan Anandan from Sequoia suggested working towards making India the global hub in education by leveraging technology.
Vipul Roongta from HDFC said it was his first personal interaction with the Prime Minister and praised the policy initiatives that have been taken by the government in the housing sector, especially in the affordable housing segment. 
Others who were part of the interaction included Gopal Srinivasan from TVS Capitals, Renuka Ramnath from Multiples, Manish Kejriwal from Kedaara Capital, Ashley Menezes from Chrys, Vineet Rai from Aavishkar, and Shweta Jalan from Advent.
Ankur Gupta from Brookfield, Mukul Arora from Elevation, Sehraj Singh from Prosus, Ranjit Shah from Gaja Capital, Sunil Goyal from Yournest and Padmanabh Sinha from NIIF too attended the meeting with the Prime Minister.
