The UN report says&nbsp;majority of the wasted food, that is about 61% came from households, 26% was wasted by the food service industry, while retail contributed to 13% of the wastage.
The report also noted that food wastage is not limited to developed countries like the United States or the United Kingdom.&nbsp;Many countries have not yet quantified their food waste, so they don't understand the magnitude of the problem.
South Asia is no better. In India, 50 kg of food per person per year goes to waste, 82 kg per person is wasted in Afghanistan and 79 kg per person is wasted in Nepal.

8 Indian beaches have received the coveted 'Blue Flag certification', an eco-level tag awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education for safe, clean and environment friendly beaches and sustainable boating tourism operators.
The beaches that bagged the certification are Kappad beach in Kerala&rsquo;s Kozhikode district, Shivrajpur in Gujarat, Goghla in Diu, Kasarkod and Padubidri in Karnataka, Golden beach in Odisha, Rushikonda in Andhra Pradesh and Radhanagar Beach in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Union Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar made the announcement while stating that 'no blue flag nation has ever been awarded for 8 beaches in a single attempt'.

The jury, which comprises of members of the UNEP, UNWTO among others, also gave India a third prize under 'international best practices&rsquo; for controlling pollution in coastal areas. To be considered for the prestigious&nbsp;honour, 33 criteria including bathing water quality have to be met.

Khushi Chindaliya, a 17-year-old from Surat has been named as the Regional Ambassador for India by United Nations Environment Programme,&nbsp;Tunza Eco-Generation.
A quest for conservation and sensitivity towards the environment won her the coveted post. Khushi will undertake various projects with TEG until February next year, with a host of virtual discussions on how education can help. In an interview with the Times of India, she said, she will be sharing reports and discussing the conservation initiatives undertaken by the government .
That's not all, she's also one among 100 young people of India whose essays were chosen by UNESCO&nbsp;and&nbsp;will be published in a book called Year 1 AC (After Coronavirus): Essays by 100 Young Indians.'.
