Speaking on the need to use technology to conserve water in agriculture, UNDP's Dilip Singh stressed on the need to to educate the community to use technological solutions for water woes. Some of these methods include, AI and IoT based irrigation, community water budgeting and agromet advisories where frmers can plan irrigation based on updates from automatic weather stations. Such initiatives, he said can be started as a small project that can then be used as pilot for larger interventions.&nbsp;

As per the government's new water security plan, all water related initiatives have been brought under one umbrella, Jal Shakti Ministry and the govt is steadfast in its commitment to solve the water crisis in India. Jal Jeevan Mission Director Bharat Lal, said that since 20-30 days of Monsoon rain is all that India gets to replenish its water supply, it must conserve this water and this can only be achieved through a 'jan andolan' or a public movement&nbsp;

Millions of Indian women have to walk everyday just to get water for their daily needs. Solutions can be found to all of these, ancient solutions like baolis and check dams and rainwater harvesting which can help harvest water. Solutions that can take water directly to the doorsteps of all Indian citizens. 600 million people, or nearly half of India&rsquo;s population, faces extreme water stress.&nbsp;21 major cities, including Delhi, would run out of groundwater by 2030, according to Niti Aayog estimates. India has 16% of the world's population, but only 4% of the world's freshwater resources. India will have only half the water it needs by 2030.&nbsp;India's water crisis is real and severe.Day Zero for a catastrophe is not a century but less than a decade away.&nbsp;We need to act, NOW. The crisis is clear and is staring us in our face, it's time to talk solutions and walk the water talk.Editorji in association with Teri and UNDP is embarking on a mission to pinpoint the water problem and talk solutions.&nbsp; The Big Question: What can be done to address India's water crisis. We will get experts and policy makers to dwell on some of the solutions. Rainwater harvesting&nbsp; Linking of rivers &amp; ancient water bodies&nbsp; Sewage treatment&nbsp; How can we clean the rivers?&nbsp; Domestic conservation of water&nbsp; Piped water in every home&nbsp; Groundwater recharge&nbsp;This is not just another campaign. It's a quest for workable solutions.We will also bring to you ground reports that will identify specific problems, but will also showcase efforts by the govt, communities, NGOs, industry and individuals that have made some real difference.&nbsp;Efforts are on at several levels. For example, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the Jal Jeevan Mission at the start of his second term. Launched in August 2019, the ambitious scheme aims to provide potable water through taps to the 191 million rural households by 2024, from the existing one out of six households that have tap water. Despite the odds, over 30 million new households have been provided with tap water during this period, equal to the number of households provided with taps since Independence.&nbsp;We will list all such efforts, the change they are bringing.
