A fire broke out early Sunday at a natural gas terminal in the Russian Baltic Sea port of Ust-Luga, the regional governor said.
The terminal, 110 kilometres (70 miles) west of St Petersburg near the Estonian border, is operated by Novatek, Russia's largest independent natural gas producer.
"No casualties as a result of a fire at Novatek's terminal in the port of Ust-Luga. Personnel were evacuated," Aleksandr Drozdenko, governor of Leningrad Oblast, posted on Telegram along with a short video showing a massive fire and smoke at a chemical complex.
"A high alert regime has been introduced in the Kingiseppsky district (which includes the port)," he said, noting that the blaze was "localised".
The Russian ministry of emergency situations and local fire service were involved in fighting the blaze, he added.
Local official Yuri Zapalatski said the fire started just before 02:45 am local time.
TASS news agency and other state media said the cause of the fire has not been announced.
Russia's Defence Ministry announced Sunday that Ukrainian attacks overnight had been foiled but made no mention of any incident in the Leningrad region.
The Ria-Novosti agency said a 100 cubic metre container was on fire.
The Ust-Luga complex processes natural gas condensate into naphtha, jet fuel and ship fuel components, according to Novatek's website.
The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline leading to Germany, which has never entered into service after a sabotage raid in September 2022, starts from the town of Ust-Luga.

"Today we are welcoming home 31 more children who have been illegally taken by Russians from occupied territories," Mykola Kuleba, head of the Save Ukraine charity, wrote on social media.
The children had been taken from the pro-Western country's northeastern region of Kharkiv and the southern region of Kherson, said Save Ukraine, which fights what it says are illegal deportations of Ukrainian children.
On Friday, the charity said the children and their relatives had crossed the border into Kyiv-controlled territory.
According to footage released Friday, the children, who carried suitcases and bags, crossed the border on foot and later boarded a bus to continue their journey.
Kuleba praised the "heroic mothers" who had travelled to retrieve their children in what he called the "most difficult" of the charity's rescue missions to date.
One elderly woman who was supposed to bring home two grandchildren had died from "stress", Kuleba added.
Writing on Facebook, he said the Ukrainian relatives had been subjected to a "13-hour interrogation" by Russia's FSB security service.
More than 16,000 Ukrainian children have been deported to Russia since the invasion launched on February 24, 2022, according to Kyiv, with many allegedly placed in institutions and foster homes.
Russia denies the allegations, saying instead it has saved Ukrainian children from the horrors of the war.
Last month, the International Criminal Court announced an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin on the war crime accusation of unlawfully deporting Ukrainian children.
The Hague-based court also issued a warrant against Maria Lvova-Belova, Russia's presidential commissioner for children's rights, on similar charges.

Russian State TV showed a destroyed two-storey hospital building on Sunday morning, saying that the rockets hit the children&rsquo;s department of the building.
Novoaidar is located in Luhansk province, which is almost entirely under the control of Russian forces or Russian-backed separatists.
The Russian Defence Ministry alleged that the hospital was deliberately targeted.
Its claim of a strike in Novoaidar could not be immediately verified.

With the Football World Cup only a couple of months away, footballer & Polish national team captain Robert Lewandowski pledged his support to Ukraine against the Russian invasion of their neighbours.
Lewandowski, who met Ukrainian legend Andriy Shevchenko in Warsaw, was gifted a captain's armband bearing the blue-yellow flag colours. 
The 2-time FIFA World Player of the Year will take the armband to the marquee event in Qatar in November.
“It will be an honor for me to carry this captain's armband in the colors of Ukraine to the World Cup," Lewandowski wrote on his Instagram account.
This is not the first time Lewandowski has come out in support of the war-torn nation. Earlier in the year, it was Lewandowski's public stance that led to the boycott of Russia in a World Cup qualification playoffs semifinal scheduled in Warsaw on March 24.
