The first phase of polling for the Lok Sabha elections began on April 19. As the voting started taking place in 102 constituencies, voters started thronging the polling booths since 7 am. Among the enthusiastic voters, numerous newlyweds arrived all decked up in their wedding attires to exercise their voting rights.&nbsp;
From Jammu &amp; Kashmir's Udhampur to Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar, newlyweds posed outside polling booths.
Accompanied by his friends dressed in traditional attires, a groom decked up in sherwani and colourful headgear was among the first to cast his vote at a polling booth in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur.

Divisional Commissioner (Jammu) Ramesh Kumar said the bridge collapsed due to overloading as a large number of people had gathered on it.

At least 40 people, including several children, were injured when a footbridge collapsed in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district on Friday, officials said.
The incident took place at Beni Sangam in the Bain village of Chenani block during Baisakhi celebrations, they said.
Divisional Commissioner (Jammu) Ramesh Kumar said the bridge collapsed due to overloading as a large number of people had gathered on it.
Police and relief teams rushed to the spot and began rescue operations, the officials said.
Videos and pictures purporting to show the extent of damage in the far-flung Chenani block have become widely circulated on social media.

Police said that they noticed unusual movement of a truck and followed it, before finding the terrorists hiding inside.

Security forces succeeded in killing at least 3 terrorists hiding in a truck in Jammu and Kashmir on 28 December 2022.
Additional Director General of Police, Jammu zone, Mukesh Singh said the encounter with the terrorists took place around 7.30 am amid intense fog near Tawi Bridge in the Sidhra bypass area along the Jammu-Srinagar National highway.
Reinforcements were rushed to the area and the terrorists were neutralised, police said.
The terrorists were intercepted near Tawi Bridge when they were travelling in a truck to Kashmir, they said.

Days after twin explosions inside two buses rocked Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur, police arrested two persons on 2 October 2022. The attacks had alarmed security forces as they came just days before Union Home Minister Amit Shah visits the Union Territory on 4 October.
Police reportedly said that a person named Mohamad Amin Bhat settled in Pakistan was behind the attacks. Bhat has been accused of contacting a terrorist named Aslam Sheikh through social media, and providing him with 3 sticky bombs and 4 improvised explosive devices through a drone. Sheikh then allegedly placed the explosives in two buses.
The first blast took place in a parked bus near a petrol pump at Domail Chowk at around 10:30 pm on 28 September. Two persons were injured. The second blast took place in a stationary bus at the old bus stand Udhampur at around 6 am on 29 September.
Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Jammu and Kashmir for 2 days beginning 4 October.

At least 18 people, mostly students, were injured when a mini-bus skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district on Saturday morning, officials said.


J&K: 18 injured as mini-bus falls into gorge in Udhampur

The officials said a rescue operation was launched immediately and 18 injured people, including 11 students, were rushed to the Udhampur district hospital for treatment.

At least 18 people, mostly students, were injured when a mini-bus skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district on Saturday morning, officials said.
The mini-bus was on its way to Udhampur from Barmeen, they said, adding that the driver lost control over it and the vehicle fell into a gorge near Ghordi village.
