Two years after his arrest in a case connected to the Northeast Delhi riots, former JNU student Umar Khalid will walk out of Tihar jail for the first time to attend his sister&rsquo;s wedding

A court here on Monday granted one-week interim bail to former JNU student Umar Khalid, arrested in a case related to the northeast Delhi riots, for attending his sister's wedding.
Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat granted relief to Khalid from December 23 to 30.
He has to surrender on December 30 and no extension can be granted, a court source told PTI.
The detailed order is awaited.
Khalid had moved an application seeking two weeks' interim bail -- from December 20 to January 3 -- for his sister's wedding.
Khalid was booked under the anti-terror law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and provisions of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly being a mastermind of the 2020 Northeast Delhi riots, which had left 53 people dead and over 700 injured.

The violence had erupted during the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Khalid was arrested by the Delhi Police in September 2020.
He was discharged in a case related to the riots on December 3.

A Delhi court on Thursday denied bail to former JNU student Umar Khalid in a case of larger conspiracy in connection with Delhi riots during February 2020.

Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat had reserved the order on March 3 after hearing arguments from both sides. The verdict was pronounced after it was deferred several times.
During the arguments, Khalid's counsel&nbsp;told the court that the prosecution lacked the evidence to prove its case against him.&nbsp;
The lawyer submitted that "Delhi police has nothing but Republic TV and CNN-News18 for the case".

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday registered two separate cases under UAPA against those who allegedly celebrated the Pakistan team&rsquo;s win against India in the T20 World Cup.&nbsp;The cases were registered under section 13 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 105A and 505 IPC.&nbsp;&nbsp;Reports said police have taken notice of two incidents&ndash; one at the hostel of the SKIMS Hospital in Srinagar&rsquo;s Soura and another at the hostel of the Government Medical College.&nbsp;Reportedly students pursuing MBBS and other degrees residing in the un-married hostel of SKIMS raised slogans and burst firecrackers&rdquo;.&nbsp;&nbsp;The police have also filed an FIR against the students residing at the GMC hostel, &ldquo;who were allegedly crying and dancing after Pakistan won the World Cup T20 match against India&rdquo;.&nbsp;A local news report said that the FIRs are still open and the accused are yet to be identified.&nbsp;

PTI,&nbsp;New Delhi: The NIA will attach immovable properties of designated terrorists Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a US-based member of the banned Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), and Hardeep Singh Nijjar, the Canada-based chief of Khalistan Tiger Force, an official said on Tuesday.
According to an official of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the Government of India, in exercise of powers conferred under Section 51A of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, has ordered for the attachment of the immovable properties of Pannun in Amritsar and Nijjar in Jalandhar.
In July this year, Pannun and Nijjar were declared as designated terrorists under the provisions of the UAPA Act, along with seven other individuals.
Both SFJ and Khalistan Tiger Force are separatist Khalistani outfits.
The NIA is investigating a case relating to a concerted campaign launched by secessionist organisation SFJ under the banner of 'Sikh Referendum 2020' for creation of a so-called 'Khalistan'. PTI CPS SKL SMN
