The celebrities have lost the blue ticks that helped distinguish them from impostors on the platform as they don’t pay a monthly subscription fee.

Elon Musk&rsquo;s micro-blogging site Twitter has removed legacy verified blue ticks from the accounts of many prominent personalities in India, these include legendary actors Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan.The celebrities have lost the blue ticks that helped distinguish them from impostors on the platform as they don&rsquo;t pay a monthly subscription fee.
Other celebrities whose blue ticks were removed include Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Akshay Kumar, Kajol, Madhuri Dixit, Anushka Sharma, and Anil Kapoor, among others. For the unversed, verified blue checkmarks on Twitter costs USD 8 a month through the web and USD 11 a month through an in-app payment on iOS and Android. In India, the subscription costs Rs 900 per month via iPhones and Android smartphones. On the Twitter website, the cost is Rs 650 per month. Earlier, Twitter had announced that it will remove the verified check-mark status of accounts unless they have subscribed to Twitter Blue or the business-focused Twitter Verified Organizations plan.

Twitter will limit the use of text messages for two-factor authentication to only paid subscribers starting March 20, due to abuse by "bad actors." Users who have SMS-based 2-factor authentication enabled and are not Twitter Blue subscribers have a 30-day window to switch to another method.
Elon Musk confirmed the change in response to a user's tweet, stating that the company was losing $60 million annually to scam SMS. The blue checkmark is also now available to anyone who pays.

Nageshwar Rao, the former interim director of the Central Bureau of Investigation moved the Delhi High Court, claiming that his account on Twitter did contain a blue tick but it was removed in March 2022.
The retired Indian Police Service officer had also sought directions to the Centre to designate or earmark one or more compliance and grievance officers exclusively to handle complaints from users of social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram relating to compliance to the law and rules, including verification of user identity, so that people are not subjected to unnecessary harassment. 
On April 7, the court had granted liberty to Rao to pursue appropriate remedies with regard to his grievances in case any adverse decision is made by Twitter.
He then moved a fresh plea which noted that in pursuance to the court's order, he reapplied for the verification tag, however, it was not reinstated.
In May, the court dismissed Rao's plea while noting that “there was absolutely no justification which warranted the writ petition to be filed keeping in mind that the earlier writ petition was disposed of on April 7.
The court asked Rao to pay a cost of Rs 25,000. 
Rao tendered his unconditional apology to the court and said that he was a pensioner who “was just asking for his identity to be secured”. In response the court let go his fine.

Twitter has announced that it has been working on an edit button since last year, and will now start testing the functionality. Twitter users have been requesting the functionality for years now, and Twitter&rsquo;s lack of willingness to provide it has become a meme on the site.
The official Twitter Comms account tweeted that the company will be kicking off the testing for users of Twitter Blue, the company&rsquo;s subscription service that unlocks special features.
The tweet also humorously mentions that the company didn&rsquo;t get the idea from a poll, referring to a poll on the issue started by Tesla owner Elon Musk. Musk recently acquired a 9.2% stake in Twitter, and now sits on the company&rsquo;s Board of Directors.

Jay Sullivan, Twitter&rsquo;s VP of consumer product, acknowledged that the feature has been demanded for a long time, and that Twitter has been looking into how to build the feature in a safe manner. He also said that the company is concerned about protecting the integrity of public conversation, making sure that edited tweets aren&rsquo;t misused to the alter public record.
