Earlier on June 27 two Bangladeshi nationals were arrested from Agartala railway station for illegally entering Indian territory.&nbsp;

Eleven Bangladeshi nationals were arrested from Agartala railway station for entering the country without any valid travel document, police said on Sunday.
Based on specific inputs about some Bangladeshi nationals who had crossed the international border in Tripura's Sepahijala district and would board a train at Agartala railway station, railway police started searching for them on Saturday evening.
"We have detained 11 people - five women and six men - from Agartala railway station and took them to Agartala GRP police station for questioning," Officer in Charge (OC), Tapas Das told PTI.
Das said during questioning the Bangladeshi nationals could not produce any valid travel document to enter Indian territory.
"The 11 Bangladeshi nationals were arrested for illegally entering Indian soil. They will be produced before a court seeking police remand for further interrogation," he said.
Preliminary investigation revealed, that the 11 Bangladeshi nationals were planning to go to Chennai, Mumbai and Kolkata for earning livelihood, he said.
"We can't rule out the possibility of human trafficking attempts. We have started an investigation into the case", he said.

A woman in Tripura killed her nine-year-old son over his 'disobedience'. A piece of rope and bamboo stick allegedly used in crime were recovered from her home.

A shocking incident from Tripura has come to light where a woman strangled her nine-year-old son as she was feeling overwhelmed by her son's incessant misbehaviour. When the police arrived, the woman, Suprabha Bal, confessed to the crime. She was seen sitting near her son's body. She has been arrested.
The woman was working as a daily labourer at a construction site. She said her husband was missing and her daughter was married, so she was left to raise her son alone. The woman further told the police that she felt overwhelmed by her son Rajdeep's incessant misbehaviour and that he stole money and neglected his studies.
The woman confessed, "I couldn't go to work or live in peace because of his actions. I killed him and am ready to go to jail for it."
Police recovered rope and a bamboo stick from her home, which were allegedly used to kill the nine-year-old.&nbsp;

A Tripura BJP leader was arrested on April 29 for assaulting a presiding officer at a polling booth on April 26 during phase 2 polls for Tripura East constituency.&nbsp;
The viral video shows Kajal Das, the president of BJP's North Tripura district slapping the poll official. Soon after that, a complaint was lodged against Kajal Das by the assistant returning officer of Dharmanagar.&nbsp;
In the video, several other people were also seen attacking the officer at polling station number 22 of the Bagbasa assembly constituency.&nbsp;
The investigation was conducted based on reports from sector officers, micro observers and the viral video, said Jayanta Debnath, the officer in-charge of Kadamtala police station where the case was filed.

The incident triggered an ABVP protest in the college but no formal complaints have been filed so far. NDTV reported that the Saraswati idol has been covered with plastic sheets and removed from the area.
ABVP Tripura leader Dibakar Acharjee voiced his concerns and stated the idol displayed at Tripura Government College of Art and Craft has hurt religious sentiments. &ldquo;We all got news that the idol of Goddess Saraswati was sculptured in a very wrong and vulgar way,&rdquo; he said.
&ldquo;We instantly reached the location and started our protest. We asked the college authorities to stop the worship there and forced the students to wrap a sari on the idol. We strongly protest against this type of initiative in any educational institute,&rdquo; Acharjee said, as per ANI.

The Tripura government is taking various initiative to promote tourism in the state and turning the Ujjayanta Palace into a weekend hub is the first step towards it.

Tripura will soon get a weekend tourism hub at the Ujjayanta Palace. It was recently announced by the Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury that the Chief Minister of the state, Manik Saha will inaugurate the weekend tourism hub on August 6.&nbsp;
According to Chowdhury, this initiative has been taken by the government to promote tourism in the Northeastern state and this is just the beginning. Former BCCI President and cricket stalwart Saurav Ganguly has already been roped in as the brand ambassador for Tripura tourism. The tourism hub will have a light and sound show, boating on a lake and food stalls for tourists.&nbsp;
The palace was named by poet and Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, who used to visit it quite frequently to write peacefully and used to praise the palace for its architecture, the tiled floors, the intricately designed doors, and beautifully carved wooden ceilings showcasing the marvelous work of the artisans of those times. &nbsp;

Six people died and 15 others were injured as a Rath caught fire after coming in contact with a high-tension wire in Tripura's Unakoti district on Wednesday, police said.
The incident happened around 4.30 pm in Kumarghat area during the 'Ulta Rath Yatra' festival of Lord Jagannath, they said.
During this festival, the sibling deities -- Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhdara and Lord Jagannath -- return to their abode, a week after Rath Yatra.
Thousands of people were pulling the Rath, made of iron, when it came in contact with a 133 kv overhead cable, police said.
Six people died on the spot and 15 others received burn injuries, Assistant Inspector General (Law &amp; Order) Jyotishman Das Chowdhury told PTI.
The injured were undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital, he said.
Their conditions were stated to be critical, officials said.
Chief Minister Manik Saha condoled the deaths.
"In a tragic accident at Kumarghat, several pilgrims lost their lives and several others were injured due to electrocution while pulling the 'Ulta Rath'. I am deeply saddened by this incident. Deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Also, I wish the injured persons a speedy recovery. The state government stands by them in this difficult time," he said.&nbsp;

Tripura, Meghalaya and Mizoram have been directed not to register cases against journalists at the "drop of a hat", National Human Rights Commission member Justice M M Kumar said on Wednesday.
The direction was given to chief secretaries and the director generals of police of the three states during their deposition to the Commission at a two-day hearing here which concluded Wednesday.
The NHRC direction was given in connection to a complaint filed by Sanit Debroy of the Assembly of Journalists in Tripura and the Commission has given specific directions to that state's chief secretary and director general of police, Kumar said.
“We have told the states' authorities during the hearing that they need to show patience and to give them (journalists) enough space to express their point of view ... We have also told them them don't register cases at the drop of a hat,” he told PTI.
Debroy had appoached the NHRC with his complaint that since the BJP-IPFT government came to power in the state in 2018 many scribes had been attacked and many newspaper offices had been vandalised.
The other two states, whose representatives were present at the meeting, were also directed to do the same.
“I have told the chief secretaries (of the three states) this (Wednesday) afternoon and they have taken note of the direction,” he said.
The Commission recommended compensation of Rs seven lakh to a minor who was raped by a para-military personnel in Tripura. In another case top government officers of the state were directed to provide proper medical care and treatment to a handicapped person.
Kumar said the Commission has also asked the Mizoram government to pay as compensation Rs seven lakh to the next of kin of a person who died in police custody, while Meghalaya government have been asked to submit proofs of payment of Rs three lakh to the next of kin of a victim who died in a police encounter.
Two cases in connection to the death of labourers in illegal coal mines in Meghalaya were heard and the state government was directed to give Rs five lakh as compensation to the kin of each victim, he said.
In all 19 cases were heard during the two day-public hearing here. Ten of the cases were from Tripura, six from Meghalaya and 3 from Mizoram.
NHRC general secretary Bimbadhar Pradhan said that the Commission is extensively using the NHRC portal for ensuring easy and quick submission of reports and action taken reports from state governments on 22 advisories issued earlier.

On Sunday, Trinamool Youth Congress president Sayoni Ghosh was detained by Tripura Police for allegedly spreading ruckus during a public meeting of Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb.
The Trinamool has alleged a string of attacks from BJP workers against it cadres in Tripura as the party trying to expand in the Northeastern state where the BJP is in power.
The BJP has denied TMC's allegations and has in turn accused the party of disturbing law and order in the state.

This will be the first civic election that the BJP will face after coming to power in 2018.
