The new increased rates of highway &amp; expressway tolls could be implemented from April 1 after the approval of the Ministry of Road and Transport&nbsp;

Planning a roadtrip in April? You might have to pay higher tolls on national highways and expressways. As per reports, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is preparing to increase the toll tax from April 1.&nbsp;
According to a report by ABP, the toll tax will increase by 5-10%. Cars and light vehicles will be charged an additional 5% per trip and the toll tax for heavy vehicles may increase by 10%.&nbsp;
The proposal for revised toll rates will be sent from NHAI&rsquo;s all Project Implementation Unit (PIU) by March 25.&nbsp;
Currently, the toll tax is being collected on the expressway at Rs 2.19 per kilometre.
The 135 km long, six-lane &lsquo;Eastern Peripheral Expressway&rsquo; and Delhi-Meerut Expressway will also witness a hike in toll rates. According to a report by the Mint, the monthly pass facility, a cheaper provision given to those residing in an area of 20 kilometers of the toll plaza, will also be increased by 10%.&nbsp; Last hike was in 2022, the toll tax range was hiked between 10 and 15%, increasing the tariff prices of all types of vehicles plying on national highways by Rs 10 to Rs 60.&nbsp;

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday said that the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will earn toll revenues worth ₹ 1,000 to 1,500 crore every month when it becomes operational.
The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is likely to be completed by March 2023 and is being built as part of the first phase of the "Bharatmala Pariyojana".
The eight-lane expressway, covering Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, is expected to halve the commute time between the national capital and the country's financial hub from nearly 24 hours to 12 hours.
The minister described the expressway as a "gold mine" for generating income.
Gadkari further said that the national highways infrastructure is a world-class success story after completing his tour to assess the progress of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway that will pass through four states apart from the national capital.
A confident Gadkari also asserted that the NHAI will rake in annual toll income to the tune of ₹ 1.4 lakh crore in the next five years from the current level of ₹ 40,000 crore.
