The final price tag for last year's Covid-delayed Tokyo Olympics was put at $13 billion, the organising committee said Tuesday in its final act before it is dissolved at the end of the month.
The cost was twice what was forecast in 2013 when Tokyo was awarded the hosting rights. However, the final price tag presented by organisers is lower than the $15.4 billion they predicted when the Olympics ended just under 11 months ago.
Japanese government entities, primarily the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, covered about 55% of the total expenses which amounted to about $7.1 billion in Japanese taxpayer money.
The International Olympic Committee contributed $1.3 billion to this budget, with the largest contribution of $3.4 billion coming from local sponsors. Organisers also listed $500 million in income from an unspecified "insurance payout."
A University of Oxford study in 2020 said Tokyo was the most expensive Olympics on record.

 English Premier League
 It were Pep Guardiola&rsquo;s men who rode to victory in the Premier League on the back of Manchester United, claimed their 5th&nbsp;trophy. Rivals Manchester United finished 2nd&nbsp;on the league ahead of Liverpool as City finished on top with 86 points and an incredible 27 wins from 38 games.
 La Liga title:
 Atletico Madrid clinched their 11th title La Liga crown after pipping their city rivals Real Madrid who finished 2nd. Barcelona finished a distant third as Lionel Messi finished as the top goal scorer of the league with 30 strikes in his last season with the Catalan side.

In July, Argentina rose to the occasion as they won their first Copa America title in 28 years after handing Brazil a 1-0 loss in the final. 15th&nbsp;Copa America title for Argentina but more importantly this was Lionel Messi first major title of his career.&nbsp;

Football&rsquo;s transfer market also remained hot during the season with the two biggest names in the sport making headlines.&nbsp;
CR7 returned home:
Juventus bid adieu to Cristiano Ronaldo as he returned to play for Manchester United after a gap of 12 years. The Portuguese star signed a 2-year-contract worth approximately 15 million euros to return to Old Trafford.
Messi&rsquo;s shift from Barcelona to PSG&nbsp;&nbsp;
Until August 2021, imagining Lionel Messi in a jersey apart from Barcelona was almost impossible. But his 21-year long stay with the Spanish club came to an end after Barcelona announced that they could not sign a new deal with the footballer due to financial reasons which left Messi quite emotional.

However, the 24-year-old made a gripping return for the women&rsquo;s balance beam event in which she won the bronze medal.

Out of 162 nations, India finished 24th in the overall medal tally, while its accomplishment of 19 medals is ranked 20th based on the number of medals.&nbsp;
Interestingly, this feat came just days after India registered its&nbsp;best medal haul in the Olympic Games as well, with 1 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze.

Wrestler Vinesh Phogat who is facing temporary suspension from the Wrestling Federation of India has refuted their&nbsp;claims and said that she has been wrongfully accused of misconduct and indiscipline.&nbsp;WFI&nbsp;accused Phogat&nbsp;of not staying and&nbsp;training&nbsp;with her teammates&nbsp;and for not wearing the assigned singlet.&nbsp;While she denied two allegations, Phogat&nbsp;apologized to the national federation for wearing another jersey that had her personal sponsor's name on it instead of the assigned jersey.&nbsp;In her defense, Phogat's&nbsp;managing partner of Krida&nbsp;Legal Vidushpat Singhania told Indian Express&nbsp;that the allegation of&nbsp;staying and training was wrongfully subjected on her.
