A blacklisted dairy firm allegedly supplied adulterated ghee for the preparation of the famous Tirupati laddu prasadam by using proxy companies, according to the Special Investigation Team&rsquo;s (SIT) remand report filed in court.
Fraudulent Supply Chain Exposed
The report, submitted on Sunday, revealed that Bhole Baba Organic Dairy Pvt Ltd, disqualified and blacklisted by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) in 2022, continued to supply ghee through its proxies&mdash;Vaishnavi Dairy and AR Dairy. The TTD, which manages the Lord Venkateswara Temple, requires 15,000 kilograms of ghee daily for its laddu prasadam.
The SIT&rsquo;s report implicates four accused individuals: Pomil Jain and Bipin Jain (former directors of Bhole Baba Dairy), Apurva Vinay Kant Chawda (CEO of Vaishnavi Dairy, Poonambakkam), and Raju Rajasekharan (MD of AR Dairy, Dindigul).
Blacklisted But Still in Business
Bhole Baba Dairy originally supplied ghee at ₹291 per kg in 2019. However, after an inspection in 2022, TTD found the company&rsquo;s manufacturing practices unsatisfactory, leading to its disqualification from further tenders.
Despite this, the company continued supplying ghee through its proxies. Vaishnavi Dairy secured a tender in 2020, while AR Dairy allegedly used fabricated documents to win a contract in March 2024. The remand report claims Bhole Baba Dairy actively assisted its proxies, including document falsification to qualify for bids.
Fabrication and Adulteration
Although AR Dairy was contractually obligated to deliver Agmark-certified ghee, the SIT report states it procured ghee from Vaishnavi Dairy, which in turn sourced it from the blacklisted Bhole Baba Dairy. Furthermore, fabricated documents were allegedly used to pass off substandard and adulterated ghee as Agmark standard.
Political Fallout and Investigation
The case became a major political issue in Andhra Pradesh, with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) accusing the previous Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government of compromising the holiness of the temple offerings. The TDP government had previously alleged that the laddus were adulterated with animal fat.
To address the scandal, a five-member probe team&mdash;comprising two CBI officers, two Andhra Pradesh government officials, and one Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) officer&mdash;is investigating the matter.
With religious sentiments at stake, the TTD and authorities are under pressure to ensure strict action against those responsible for tampering with one of the most revered temple offerings in India.

Six devotees died and nearly 40 more were injured in the stampede at Bairagi Patteda near MGM School in Tirupati on Wednesday night as hundreds of them jostled for tickets for Vaikunta Dwara Darshanam at Lord Venkateswara Swamy temple on Tirumala Hills.
Hundreds of devotees turned up from across the country for the 10-day Vaikunta Dwara Darshanam commencing from January 10.
"Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu comforted devotees who were injured in yesterday&rsquo;s (Wednesday) stampede at SVIMS (Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS)," said an official statement.
The CM spent 90 minutes in the hospital with the injured devotees. He visited one patient after the others and heard their grievances.
Earlier, Naidu visited the accident site where the stampede claimed six lives and injured many.
Accompanied by several ministers, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) officials and others, the CM inspected the makeshift arrangements made to handle the multitudes of crowds arriving for the pilgrimage.
At the stampede site, Naidu demanded answers from TTD joint executive officer (health &amp; education) M Gowthami over the incident.

"The state government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh to the families of the deceased persons," said an official release.
State Revenue Minister A Satya Prasad said Rs 25 lakh ex-gratia has been announced to support the families of the deceased devotees.
"We cannot replace life with anything else. To support the families, we have announced Rs 25 lakh," said Prasad, talking to reporters after calling on the victims' families as part of a group of ministers visit.
He said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will come and talk to all the injured persons shortly and then decide on the quantum of compensation to be extended to the injured persons. He explained that the stampede began when a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) opened the gates, causing a surge in the crowd. "As people pushed forward, the situation escalated, resulting in six deaths," Naidu told a local news channel.
The Vaikunta Dwara Darshanam, a significant 10-day event, was set to commence on January 10, attracting devotees from across the country.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep sorrow over the incident. "The stampede near Vishnu Nivasam in Tirupati, resulting in the death of devotees seeking Vaikunta Dwara Darshanam, has deeply grieved me," he posted on 'X'.
Chairman Naidu mentioned that the Chief Minister conducted a teleconference, expressing dissatisfaction with the temple's administration and calling the incident regrettable. He suggested administrative lapses might have contributed and announced that the Chief Minister would visit Tirupati on Thursday to console the injured.
The Chief Minister has directed authorities to prevent such incidents in the future and will announce compensation for the victims' families on Thursday. TTD board member Bhanu Prakash called the stampede unfortunate and sought forgiveness from the devotees. He assured that stringent measures would be taken to prevent recurrence, although the lost lives could not be reclaimed.
Videos of police personnel performing CPR on some of the injured, including women, and scenes of ambulances transporting the wounded went viral, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

A 38-year-old man from Rajasthan was mauled to death by an eight-year-old male Asiatic lion in Sri Venkateswara Zoo here on Thursday, said a Forest department official.
Around 4 pm, Prahlad Gujjar from Alwar district in Rajasthan came as a lone visitor and entered the restricted area, said the official.
"Though our animal keeper noticed and cautioned Gujjar from entering the restricted area, he scaled the six-foot-high fence and jumped into the lions' enclosure," Tirupati Zoo curator C Selvam told PTI.
The male lion which was on display at that time in the enclosure mauled him to death, he said.
The lion did not eat any part of his body, which was found intact with neck injuries where the animal bit him, the official added.
Selvam said the zoo staff tried to save him but could not do so.
Following the attack, the lion was locked in the night house and police arrived for further investigation.
The curator noted that the zoo staff found Gujjar's purse while searching the enclosure which contained an Aadhaar card and other identity cards, following which they contacted the deceased person's family.
However, he said that no mobile phone had been recovered from the enclosure yet.
Selvam said the zoo authorities informed the police to take over the case as it involved a human death.
Following the complaint, police registered a case while the body would sent for a post-mortem.
