Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has approved the translocation of 15 tigers to Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. The translocation will include 12 tigresses and 3 tigers from the Bandhavgarh, Pench, and Kanha tiger reserves.

Madhya Pradesh to translocate 15 tigers to three states

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has approved the translocation of 15 tigers to Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. The translocation will include 12 tigresses and 3 tigers from the Bandhavgarh, Pench, and Kanha tiger reserves

Madhya Pradesh government recently notified Ratapani forest as the eighth tiger reserve of the state.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has directed for the translocation of 15 tigers from Madhya Pradesh to Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Odisha, an official said on Thursday.
As per the order, 12 tigresses and three tigers will be handed over to the three states after taking permission from the central government, he said.
No time period has been specified for the process of shifting the felines.
Under the process, the big cats will be translocated from the Bandhavgarh, Pench and Kanha tiger reserves in MP, the official said.
Six tigresses and two tigers will be translocated to Chhattisgarh, while Rajasthan will get four tigresses. Besides, a tiger and two tigresses will be sent to Odisha, he said.
CM Yadav has directed that the translocation process should be carried out under the supervision of an authorised veterinarian and to ensure the felines remain out of danger during the shifting procedure.
The states receiving the tigers will bear the entire cost of translocation, the official said.
As per the 'Status of Tigers: Co-predators &amp; Prey in India-2022' report released by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and Wildlife Institute of India, MP accounted for the highest number of 785 striped animals in the country, followed by Karnataka (563) and Uttarakhand (560).
Madhya Pradesh government recently notified Ratapani forest as the eighth tiger reserve of the state.
The NTCA has given approval to nine tiger reserves in the state. The state government is yet to notify Madhav National Park as a tiger reserve.
The other tiger reserves in Madhya Pradesh are Kanha, Satpura, Bandhavgarh, Pench, Sanjay Dubri, Panna and Veerangana Durgavati.

So are big cats particularly vulnerable? What have studies found?
Several studies have found that the most vulnerable species to coronavirus infection, next to humans, are ferrets, followed by cats and civets.
Why?
The defining feature of a coronavirus is the spike protein on its surface. The spike protein initiates infection by binding with a host protein, called ACE2 receptor.
Different species have different levels of ACE2; this plays a key role in determining how much a species is susceptible to coronavirus infection.
In various studies, domestic cats and their big cousins have been found or estimated to express ACE2 more significantly than many other species.
Another critical factor is that there are similarities in the ACE2 of cats and humans.
According to a PNAS study, at very high risk are primates such as chimpanzee rhesus macaque. At high risk are species such as blue-eyed black lemur. Cats were found to have medium risk, while dogs had a low risk.
What about your pet cat?
Thus far, pet cats have not been a known source of human infection. There have been only the occasional cases of cats becoming ill from their owners, and they have only been mildly ill.
In a 2020 study in Wuhan, almost 15% of cats had antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 virus, suggesting they either were infected by people or other cats.
So, It would be prudent to keep some distance from your pet if you are ill with Covid, so as not to accidentally infect them.

West Ham rocked by Covid-19, manager & 2 players test positive

The test results came before West Ham's Carabao&nbsp;Cup clash against Hull but the game still went on.

West Ham manager David Moyes and two of his players were dramatically sent home from the London Stadium prior to their 5-1 Carabao Cup win over Hull after testing positive for Covid-19.&nbsp;Defender Issa Diop and midfielder Josh Cullen were initially named in the team to face the League One Tigers. But 15 minutes later the line-up was changed with both players omitted, and when the teams came out there was no sign of Moyes, with assistant Alan Irvine taking charge. The club in a statement later confirmed that their test results returned positive for Covid-19. All 3 members are asymptomatic and will have to undergo a 10-day quarantine.&nbsp;
