The Future-Reliance deal has been put on hold by a Singapore-based arbitration panel; favourable ruling for Amazon

Amazon Inc has won an interim award against its partner Future Group selling retail business to Reliance Industries after a Singapore-based arbitration panel put the deal on hold.
The e-commerce giant had dragged Future to arbitration after the indebted Kishore Biyani group firm signed pact to sell retail, wholesale, logistics and warehousing units to billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Reliance&nbsp;for ₹24,713 crore.
Amazon had purchased 49% in one of Future's unlisted firms last year with the right to buy into Future Retail Ltd after a period of three years to 10 years. It believes Future Group violated the contract by entering into the deal with rival Reliance.

GJM's Gurung appears in public after 3 years, breaks ties with NDA 

In his first public appearance in three years, Gorkha Janamukti Morcha leader Bimal Gurung&nbsp;on Wednesday announced breaking ties with the NDA. Gurung&nbsp;said&nbsp;the&nbsp;BJP&nbsp;did no fulfil its promise of Gorkhaland.&nbsp;Gurung, who had been absconding since 2017 after he was charged under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, appeared at Gorkha Bhavan in Kolkata&rsquo;s Salt Lake andpledged support to the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress for the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections.&nbsp;.&nbsp;

Re 1 fine on Prashant Bhushan for contempt of court

Prashant Bhushan has been asked to deposit the Re 1 fine by September 15, failing which he will be sentenced to three months in jail or will be barred from practicing as a lawyer for three years

The Supreme Court on Monday slapped a token fine of Re 1 on advocate Prashant Bhushan, who was held guilty of contempt for his tweets criticising the CJI and the Supreme Court. Bhushan has been asked to pay the fine by September 15, failing which he will be sentenced to three months in jail or will be barred from practicing as a lawyer for three years. Prashant Bhushan had refused to retract his comments or apologise, maintaining that it would be contempt of his conscience and the court. While pronouncing the sentence, the court said that Bhushan brought disrepute to the court by giving wide publicity to his statements before they were considered by the court.
