The Indian team had ended their group stage in 2nd spot after losing 1-4 to Indonesia late on Wednesday, while China had an off day and the hosts seemed to be in better shape as they ticked all the boxes to come up trumps once again at the big stage.

Lakshya Sen was the lone bright spot as the Indian men's team failed to defend its title after going down fighting 1-3 to China in the quarterfinals, while the women's side suffered a 0-3 loss to Japan to also end their campaign in the Thomas and Uber Cup.
Two years after India claimed their maiden title at the Men's Team Championships, the country's shuttlers endured a tough day in office as world No. 9 HS Prannoy, world No. 3 Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty and Dhruv Kapila and Sai Pratheek K failed to go the distance in their respective matches.
It was a rematch of the 2023 Asian Games team final which India lost 2-3 to sign off with a maiden silver.
The Indian team had ended their group stage at the second spot after losing 1-4 to Indonesia late on Wednesday, while the Chinese had an off day and the hosts seemed to be in better shape as they ticked all the boxes to come up trumps once again at the big stage.
A roaring start ended with a dampener for Prannoy as his spirited fight concluded with a 21-15 11-21 14-21 loss against world No. 2 Shi Yu Qi in a 66-minute clash which gave China a 1-0 lead.
"I don't know but surely I think China had one day off and they came in (the contest) much more fresher. It makes a big difference in the third game. Unfortunate to kind of play today," said Prannoy after the loss.
"I will say that we had a very long night and by the time we slept it was 1.32 (am) and to kind of get back to the energy levels I think is definitely less," he added.
"Everybody was very disappointed last night (after the loss to Indonesia), but to come out and play such a big match against the home crowd in less than 13 to 14 hours is a big task mentally out there because you just lost out with a big opponent like Indonesia," said Prannoy.
For the second successive day, Satwik and Chirag had to walk back without logging a point for India after they were outmanoeuvred 15-21 21-11 12-21 by the world No. 1 pair of Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang as the visitors slipped to 0-2.
All eyes were on Lakshya Sen to keep India afloat, given his 6-3 head-to-head count against Li Shi Feng, and the 22-year-old from Almora lived up to the expectations, seeing off the world No. 6 13-21 21-8 21-14 to pull one back.
However, Dhruv and Sai went down 10-21 10-21 to world No. 11 pair of Ren Xiang Yu and He Ji Ting to put paid to India's hopes.
Earlier, Ashmita Chaliha and Isharani Baruah gave a good account of themselves before the young and inexperienced Indian women's team suffered a 0-3 loss to formidable Japan in the quarterfinals of the Uber Cup.
Despite missing top guns such as PV Sindhu, India had qualified for the knockout stage with two superior victories against Canada and Singapore in the group stage but the 0-5 defeat against powerhouse China in the final league match was a reality check.
On Thursday, India fought hard against multiple-time winners Japan with Chaliha and Isharani Baruah giving a good account of themselves in their singles matches.
World No. 53 Chaliha showed once again that she has the wherewithal to trouble the top players during her narrow 10-21 22-20 15-21 loss to world No. 11 Aya Ohori in a 67-minute contest.
The 20-year-old Isharani, ranked 83rd, too was up 14-11 and 9-7 in the first and second games before losing 15-21 12-21 to 2017 World Championships and former world No. 1 Nozomi Okuhara.
In between, national champions Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Misra found a glimpse of what it would take to succeed at the highest level as they succumbed to a 8-21 9-21 loss to world No. 4 Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida.
India had reached the semifinals of the Uber Cup thrice in 1957, 2014 and 2016.
Prannoy vs Shi Yu Qi 
Handling the drift was a big task and in the end, Shi Yu Qi showed better control and deception to prevail in the 66-minute clash.
Prannoy made a sensational start to the match, opening up an 8-2 lead and kept Shi Yu Qi under pressure to eventually grab six game points with a smash. The Indian wasted one before sealing the opening game with a perfect net shot.
Shi Yu Qi looked in complete command in the second game as rode on his deceptions to take an 11-4 lead at the break. Lagging 6-12, Prannoy was called for 'obstruction' when he held up his racquet near the net during an exchange.
It was mostly a one-way traffic as the Chinese made a roaring return after Prannoy faltered with a net stroke.
The duo engaged in some excruciating rallies, using their array of strokes to outwit each other. The duo moved 5-5 before a couple of lucky net chords and supremacy at the net saw the Chinese gain a 11-8 cushion at the interval.
The Chinese made Prannoy twist and turn with his returns, constructing the rallies well to move to 16-11. A long rally ensued next with Shi Yu Qi sealing it with another sharp cross court.
Shi Yu Qi moved to 19-13 after sending one at the forehand corner and then grabbed seven match points with another precise angled shot. He raised his hands when Prannoy made a wrong judgement call.&nbsp;

The rematch of the 2022 Thomas Cup final provided Indonesia with a chance to exact revenge for their 0-3 loss then, and they did just that on the back of an excellent display.

Defending champions India's hopes of entering the Thomas Cup knockout stage as group topper were dashed by a clinical Indonesia who emerged 4-1 winners in their final pool match here on Wednesday.
Both India and Indonesia have already qualified for the quarterfinals of the prestigious event after winning their first two matches but the latter will progress to the knockouts as Group C leaders.
The biggest positive in this defeat for India was HS Prannoy getting back to winning ways after overcoming health concerns.

India number one in men's singles, Prannoy put the team ahead 1-0 after he staged a remarkable comeback to get the better of Anthony Ginting 13-21 21-12 21-12 in the opening match.
In the first men's doubles match, the duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty went down to Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Bagas Maulana, the same pair that dashed the Indian pair's hopes at the last All-England Championship.
Satwiksairaj and Chirag lost 22-24 24-22 21-19 as Indonesia levelled the tie at 1-1.
Lakshya Sen lost to reigning All England men's singles winner Jonatan Christie 18-21 21-16 17-21. The 22-year-old Sen raised hopes when he claimed the second game with his impressive net play, but he could not get past a determined Christie in the decider.
In the fourth match, India's Dhruv Kapila and Sai Pratheek lost in straight games 22-20 21-11 to fancied Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin.
In the final match, which was a dead rubber, Kidmabi Srikanth lost to Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo. Srikanth won the opening game 21-19, but lost the second and third games 22-24 14-21 respectively.
Earlier, Prannoy put his team ahead after he came back from a game down to beat Ginting.
Having looked clueless in the first game, Prannoy turned things around in the manner one expects from the country's top shuttler, decimating his opponent in the next two games to register one of his best wins of 2024.
"I knew that Ginting was going to be quick in the opening game. But I knew that if I stuck with him in the second game till 13-all, 14-all then I had a chance," said Prannoy after the match.
Similar to Prannoy's match, the duo of Satwiksairaj and Chirag lost their opening game to the Indonesian combo of Fikri and Maulana in the first men's doubles tie.
But the Indian pair fought back to claim the second game and restore parity.
However, the Indonesians had the last laugh after they overcame a heroic effort by Satwiksairaj and Chirag to win the third game and the match to level the Group C tie at 1-1.
Having fallen way behind, Satwiksairaj and Chirag saved an unbelievable 12 match points before Fikri converted in the 13th to seal the issue in their favour.
It turned out to be one of the most memorable matches as Indonesia, the tournament's most successful team, showed that their doubles game remains formidable.
The onus was on Sen to help India regain their lead and while he lost his opening game of the second men's singles to Christie 18-21, the 22-year-old Indian rallied to win the second game 21-16 and take it to the decider.
But the young Indian shuttler failed to continue in the same vein as Christie upped the ante when it mattered the most and emerged a 21-17 winner in the decisive third game to power Indonesia 2-1 ahead.
Indonesia took firm control of the tie heading into the fourth match -- the second men's doubles -- and the Indian duo of Dhruv Kapila and Sai Pratheek had their task cut out against fancied Carnando and Marthin.
But they could not deliver and lost the match in straight games, and so did Srikanth.
Meanwhile, it was confirmed that the Indian women's team will take on Japan in the quarterfinals of the Uber Cup.&nbsp;

Defending champions India sailed into the knockout stage of the Thomas Cup with a 5-0 rout of England in a Group C contest on Monday.
India, who defeated Thailand 4-1 in their opening tie, notched up a second consecutive win to qualify for the quarterfinals.
HS Prannoy returned to winning ways, defeating Harry Huang 21-15 21-15 to give India a 1-0 lead.
"To give a start to the team is really important, it gives a good boost to the team to go ahead. It is really important to finish off the matches clinically, you saw against Thailand one match was bad for us. So it's important to finish off the matches clinically," Prannoy said after his match.
The star pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty was stretched to three games by Ben Lane and Sean Vendy in the first doubles fixtures before the 2022 world champions bronze medallist picked up a 21-17 19-21 21-15 win in one hour five minutes.
Former world number one Kidambi Srikanth recorded a 21-16 21-11 victory over Nadeem Dalvi to give India an unassailable 3-0 lead.
"Happy with the way both the matches have gone for me (in the tournament). There is a lot of pressure on players to win games. I feel I have played few easier opponents so far. But from now we will face better opponents and I have to be my best," Srikanth said.
On his recent form, Srikanth said "I'm playing well but not able to pull off the matches. Obviously, people will compare how I was playing from 2021-2022. I was in my 20s then." The second doubles pair of MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila then brushed aside Rory Easton and Alex Green 21-17 21-19.
In the final match, 24-year-old Kiran George prevailed 21-18 21-12 over Cholan Kayan to wrap up the fixture.

Shetty and Rankireddy, since the memorable Thomas Cup win, have only competed at the Malaysia Open. From that tournament too, the duo had to withdraw, after Shetty suffered an injury. However, Shetty has recovered and he alongside his doubles partner, Rankireddy will now look to continue their good run.

India have done the unthinkable to winning Badminton's biggest team championship, Thomas Cup title for the very first time after Lakshya Sen, Satwik/Chirag and Kidambi Srikanth exemplary performances in the final against 14-time champions Indonesia. 
Chief National Coach for the India national badminton team, Pullela Gopichand said that India's success at Thomas Cup 2022 is bigger than the Indian Cricket team winning the 1983 World Cup.

Indian badminton players have been performing consistently well in recent years but this win is special as this is the first major win for India in a team event. India had never reached the final of Thomas Cup before this and this was their first ever title in the 73 years of tournament.
Gopichand added that he is really happy for Indian badminton and Indian sport as he thinks that other than cricket, no other sport in this country can talk about this kind of team. 
Earlier, India defeated former champions Denmark in the semifinal after thrashing 5-time champions Malaysia in the quarterfinals.

Indian badminton players have been performing consistently well in&nbsp;recent years but this win is special as this is the first major win for India in a team event

India has done the unthinkable by winning the Badminton's biggest team championship, Thomas Cup title for the very first time after Lakshya Sen, Satwik/Chirag and Kidambi Srikanth exemplary performances in the final against 14-time champions Indonesia.
Chief National Coach for the India national badminton team, Pullela Gopichand said that India's success at Thomas Cup 2022 is bigger than the Indian Cricket team winning the 1983 World Cup.
Indian badminton players have been performing consistently well in recent years but this win is special as this is the first major win for India in a team event. India had never reached the final of Thomas Cup before this and this was their first ever title in the 73 years of tournament.

Talking about his experience in the tournament with the Prime Minister, Kidambi Srikanth said, It was such a privilege to play and win the decider and he just wanted to play hard in the match as it was a golden opportunity for him and the team to win the tournament.

The World Championships 2022 bronze medalist Lakshya Sen gave Uttarakhand's famous sweet Bal Mithai to PM Modi and said that PM Modi knows that Almora's bal mithai is very famous, so he had asked Sen to get it.
