44 men charged in Australia on suspicion of child exploitation

Australian Federal Police (AFP) arrested 44 men across the nation on suspicion of possessing and producing child abuse material. Sixteen children had been "removed from harm" in the process, the AFP said. The arrests were made following a year-long investigation into images and videos that were shared online in coordination with the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE). Arrests of the accused, all aged between 19 and 57 were made in every Australian state. The arrests numbered 11 in Victoria, 11 in Queensland, nine in South Australia, eight in New South Wales, seven in Western Australia, five in Tasmania and one in the Australian Capital Territory. AFP further laid a total of 350 charges, all related to possessing or producing child exploitation material. The men had allegedly used a cloud storage platform to share the abuse. The AFP described some evidence as among "the most abhorrent produced". The arrest men worked in industries including construction, transport, law enforcement and hospitality.

A 14-year-old Indian-American girl has won a USD 25,000 young scientist challenge for a discovery that could provide a potential treatment for Covid-19.
Anika Chebrolu, an eighth-grader from Texas, won the 3M Young Scientist Challenge,&nbsp;for her work on finding a molecule that can selectively bind to the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 virus in an attempt to find a cure for the same, according to the 3M Challenge website.
Chebrolu was one of the 10 finalists in this year&rsquo;s 3M Young Scientist Challenge. In addition to the prize money, she was also awarded an exclusive 3M Mentorship.

The prestigious Shri Ram College of Commerce on the other hand set two of its most well-known courses - Economics and BCom&nbsp;- at 99 per cent and 99.5 per cent. A total of five cut-off lists are expected this year. The high cut-offs &nbsp;can be attributed to the record-high number of applications as well as more number of 95%+ scorers in board exams.

Guwahati, PTI: The flood situation in Assam deteriorated on Monday with nearly 3.18 lakh people suffering due to the deluge in 13 districts, an official bulletin said.
One person drowned in Raha area in Nagaon district, the daily flood report issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said.
The fresh fatality has taken the number of deaths in flood-related incidents in the state this year to 119, it said.
Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Kamrup, Morigaon, Hojai, Nagaon, Majuli, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and West Karbi Anglong districts have been affected by the deluge.
Nagaon is the worst-hit district with 1.99 lakh affected people, followed by Morigaon (36,400) and Kamrup (25,100), the report said.
The number of people affected by the deluge was 2.25 lakh till Sunday, it said.
As many as 389 villages are submerged and 13,463 hectares of crops have been damaged across Assam, the report said.
Authorities are running 13 relief camps and distribution centres in four districts, where 117 people have taken shelter, it said.
The mighty Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level at Nimatighat in Jorhat district and Tezpur in Sonitpur.

Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways V K Singh told Lok Sabha in a written reply that Covid-19 has resulted in migration of large number of workers from destination states to the home-states.&nbsp;
He said as per the data compiled by Ministry of Labour and Employment, more than 1.06 crore migrant workers, including those who travelled on foot during the lockdown, returned to their home states.
