Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday denounced reports that Pegasus spyware could have been used to snoop on journalists, politicians and activists, calling it an attempt &ldquo;to malign Indian democracy and its well established institutions&rdquo;.
Both Shah and Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw hinted that the reports were timed to coincide with the start of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
Shah released a statement, where attacking the Opposition for disrupting Parliament and raising the issue of Pegasus, he said, &ldquo;In what seemed like perfect cue, late last evening we saw a report which has been amplified by a few sections with only one aim &mdash; to do whatever is possible and humiliate India at the world stage, peddle the same old narratives about our nation and derail India&rsquo;s development trajectory.&rdquo;

Uttar Pradesh police filed a case against news website, The Wire in Barabanki over a documentary on the demolition of a mosque. The authorities said it was "unauthorised structure" and that was the ground for demolition.
The Wire has been accused of "promoting enmity" and holding an "intent to cause riot".
Barabanki District Magistrate Adarsh Singh said in a video statement on Twitter &nbsp;said "the news portal shared a video on June 23 that makes baseless, false statements and illogical arguments.&rsquo;
Apart from the naming the news portal, the FIR also names two journalists working with the website.
This comes days after a case was filed against the online news platform over tweets linked to the alleged assault of a Muslim man in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad.
In a statement, The Wire's founding editor Siddharth Varadarajan said the portal will "not be intimidated" and that this case is "baseless".

The Centre and state government agencies procured less than 1% of the total wheat produced in Bihar of the Rabi season of 2020-2021.&nbsp;According to a report by The Wire, the government procured only 5,000 tones, from 1,002 farmers, while the target was to procure 7 lakh tonnes of wheat.
Wheat procurement in Bihar has been dismal for the past few years. Farmers have been forced to sell their produce at rates as low as half of the Minimum Support Prices.&nbsp;Procurement centres in Bihar have also dropped to 1,619 in 2019-2020 from around 9,000 in 2016.&nbsp;With the coronavirus pandemic, the situation for farmers who could not sell their wheat produce to private mills or manufacturers worsened.
India&rsquo;s largest wheat producer Uttar Pradesh also struggled during this period, and government agencies procured only 10% of the total wheat produce in UP. Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab accounted for 87% of the total wheat procurement in the country.
