Solutions that can take water directly to the doorsteps of all Indian citizens. 600 million people, or nearly half of India&rsquo;s population, faces extreme water stress.&nbsp;21 major cities, including Delhi, would run out of groundwater by 2030, according to Niti Aayog estimates. India has 16% of the world's population, but only 4% of the world's freshwater resources. India will have only half the water it needs by 2030.&nbsp;India's water crisis is real and severe.Day Zero for a catastrophe is not a century but less than a decade away.&nbsp;We need to act, NOW. The crisis is clear and is staring us in our face, it's time to talk solutions and walk the water talk.Editorji in association with Teri and UNDP is embarking on a mission to pinpoint the water problem and talk solutions.&nbsp; The Big Question: What can be done to address India's water crisis. We will get experts and policy makers to dwell on some of the solutions. Rainwater harvesting&nbsp; Linking of rivers &amp; ancient water bodies&nbsp; Sewage treatment&nbsp; How can we clean the rivers?&nbsp; Domestic conservation of water&nbsp; Piped water in every home&nbsp; Groundwater recharge&nbsp;This is not just another campaign. It's a quest for workable solutions.We will also bring to you ground reports that will identify specific problems, but will also showcase efforts by the govt, communities, NGOs, industry and individuals that have made some real difference.&nbsp;Efforts are on at several levels. For example, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the Jal Jeevan Mission at the start of his second term. Launched in August 2019, the ambitious scheme aims to provide potable water through taps to the 191 million rural households by 2024, from the existing one out of six households that have tap water. Despite the odds, over 30 million new households have been provided with tap water during this period, equal to the number of households provided with taps since Independence.&nbsp;We will list all such efforts, the change they are bringing. Without over Rs 50,000 cr earmarked to the Jal&nbsp;Mission, there is big business opportunity for India Inc to tap into as the Govt pushes ahead it's pet water campaign.&nbsp;&nbsp;The scope of work under the mission includes creation of in-village supply infrastructure for tap water connection, reliable drinking water source development, retrofitting of complete and ongoing piped water supply schemes.&nbsp;Budgetary allocation for FY&rsquo;22 for the water mission is&nbsp;at Rs 50,000 cr this i a big jump from the Rs 11,500 cr in FY&rsquo;21. The govt has already released Rs 6000 cr to 15 states, this is however just the first of four tranches. The states will also match this contribution to push ahead the aim to get tap water to all homes across the nation.&nbsp;In just over a year 40.8mn rural households provided with new tap water connections. This is opening a big business opportunity for businesses, especially in the pipe business. The leader in the pack Supreme Industry has seen the stock soaring over 180% from it's pandemic low as the Jal&nbsp;Mission with the motto "Har Ghar Nal Se Jal by 2024" is&nbsp;improving earnings outlook significantly.
