A temple in UP was "purified" with Gangajal after Samajwadi Party's Muslim MLA Saiyada Khatoon attended an event there.

Members of Hindu outfits and local civic officials sprinkled Gangajal on a temple in Uttar Pradesh's Siddharthnagar and recited Hanuman Chalisa after Samajwadi Party's Muslim MLA Saiyada Khatoon's visit.
Khatoon was invited by the administration of the Samya Mata temple to attend an event.
The chief of a nagar panchayat said that the temple was disrespected by the local MLA who is a non-vegetarian and that her visit affected the sanctity of the place.
The police have been on alert following the incident.
Reacting on the issue, Khatoon said some elements were misleading a group of people.
&ldquo;I respect all religions. Moreover, I am a public representative. Be it a temple or a mosque, I will surely go there if I am invited,&rdquo; she was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
She added that she has used her MLA fund for the renovation of various temples.

Canada: another temple attacked, third incident of vandalisation this year

This is the third incident of a temple attack in Canada this year. India has issued strong warning to the Canadian government against attacks on temples and promotion of Khalistani propaganda in the country.

In another incident of temple vandalism, the Lakshmi Narayan temple in Canada's British Columbia was defaced with posters promoting the Khalistan referendum.
According to a India Today report, miscreants posted posters featuring photos of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, the leader of the separatist group Khalistan Tiger Force, who killed by two unidentified men on June 18.
The vandalised temple is one of the largest and oldest Hindu temples in British Columbia.
This is the third incident of temple vandalisation in Canada this year.
On January 31, a prominent Hindu temple in Canada&rsquo;s Brampton was vandalised with anti-India graffiti. The act caused outrage among the Indian community.
The Mayor of Brampton, Patrick Brown, had then condemned the incident of writing hate-filled messages directed towards India on the walls of the temple.
In April this year, another Hindu temple in Canada's Ontario was vandalised with anti-India graffiti. The Windsor Police released CCTV footage showing two suspects spray painting on the walls of the Hindu temple.

The vandalism done last week was the fourth incident where a Hindu temple was targeted in the last eight months in the country.

In a video message, the President of Ram Mandir in Canada's Mississauga, Roop Nauth Sharma appealed to people to join him at the temple on February 24 to remove the graffiti painted last week.&nbsp;
&ldquo;We will join together in the process of washing away the hatred,&rdquo; he said, adding, &ldquo;We will show these people that in Canada we live in harmony&rdquo;.&nbsp;
Denouncing the act, Sharma said it was done with the intention to cause disharmony, adding that looking at the desecrated walls 'hurt' him and devotees who came to visit the temple.&nbsp;
This was the fourth incident where a Hindu temple was targeted in the last eight months in Canada. The incident also drew widespread condemnation from politicians in the country.&nbsp;
As per a Hindustan Times report, Canadian government officials are expected to attend the event on February 24.&nbsp;

A 24-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly vandalising two temples in Indore city of Madhya Pradesh apparently after his wishes were not fulfilled, a police official said on Friday.
The man said he carried out these acts recently as prayers to get his eye, damaged in an accident in childhood, to heal had remained unfulfilled, the official said.
He has been booked under Indian Penal Code section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), Choubey added.

Mobile phones banned inside temple premises across Tamil Nadu 

It further directed the Hindu Religious &amp; Charitable Endowments (HR &amp; CE) Department to follow a decent dress code in all the temples in Tamil Nadu.

The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court on Friday directed the Commissioner of Hindu Religious &amp; Charities Endowments Department to prohibit the use of mobile phones inside the temple premises to maintain the purity and sanctity of temples in Tamil Nadu.
The court issued the order after hearing a public interest case filed by one Seetharaman, seeking a ban on the use of cell phones inside the Arulmigu Subramania Swamy Temple in the state's Tiruchendur.
While delivering the order, judges R. Mahadevan and J. Sathyanarayana Prasad said: "In order to ensure the safety of the devotees and protect the sanctity of the temple, the authorities should take steps to prevent the use of cell phones inside the temple premises. The use of cell phones and cameras distracts the devotees."

An 11-year-old boy was allegedly tied to a tree and beaten up by the priest of a Jain temple in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar after the child took almonds kept as offering, police said on Saturday.
Based on a complaint lodged by the boy's father, a case has been registered against Rakesh Jain, a priest at Jain Siddaytan Mandir in Kareela, Motinagar police station in-charge Satish Singh said.
A purported video showing the boy tied to a tree crying and asking to be freed surfaced on social media on Saturday.
According to the complainant, the boy was accused of stealing almonds when he was standing near the temple's gate on Thursday. He alleged that that the priest with the help of another man tied the child to the tree and beat him up.
A case has been registered against the accused priest under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the official said, adding that no arrest has been made so far.

According to the police, 16 'ashtadhatu' idols or idols made out of 8 metals worth crores were stolen from an ancient Balaji temple on the night of May 9 and the priest had lodged an FIR against unknown people. 
On Sunday night, 14 out of the 16 idols were found near the residence of the temple priest, according to police.
The priest also found a letter with the sack in which the thieves had written that they were having scary dreams at night and they are returning the idols due to fear.

When asked about cooperation from the Noida police in the matter, Joshi said, “Our team was stopped and asked to come to a local police station before directly acting on the arrest warrant. We cannot say that it is full cooperation.” He said Noida Police was already informed about the case details and this was second time the police team had gone for his arrest.

VHP's Vinod Bansal claimed that 27 Hindu temples were demolished to build the structure. It also says that the objective was the hoist the flag of Islam, and annoy Hindus. Such structures were built to show the absolute power of Islam. Inside, on the pillars and walls, were broken idols, and some were intact as well. Innumerable examples are there. What you call Qutub Minar was actually Vishnu Stambh, with Garuda at the apex. They tried to break an existing structure and remake it, but they failed. The part at the bottom does not match the part at the top."
He demanded that the temples be built again at the Qutub Minar complex, and Hindus be allowed to offer prayers there. Bansal said, "The way temples were broken and used to build pillars there is an insult to the Hindu community. The 27 temples mentioned there should be built again to reignite their brilliance. Hindus should be allowed to worship there."
The VHP also objected to permission given to Muslims to offer prayers at the Quwwat-ul-Islam mosque on the Qutub Minar premises, calling it&nbsp;step-motherly treatment of Hindus. Right-wing organisation Vishwa Hindu Parishad made major claims regarding the Qutub Minar, which was built by Delhi's first Muslim ruler, Qutub-ud-din Aibak.
VHP's Vinod Bansal claimed that 27 Hindu temples were demolished to build the structure.  He demanded that the temples be built again at the Qutub Minar complex, and Hindus be allowed to offer prayers there. Bansal said, "The way temples were broken and used to build pillars there is an insult to the Hindu community. The 27 temples mentioned there should be built again to reignite their brilliance. Hindus should be allowed to worship there."
 The VHP also objected to permission given to Muslims to offer prayers at the Quwwat-ul-Islam mosque on the Qutub Minar premises, calling it&nbsp;step-motherly treatment of Hindus. Bansal said, "I buy a ticket to go there, but I can't take a camera etc there. But jihadi forces are still performing namaz there. Why?"

The Bihar government has began the process to make deities owners of the temple land instead of priests, Law Minister Pramod Kumar said on Friday.
The Law Department will soon issue a circular, removing the names of priests from the revenue records to protect the properties from unauthorised claims, Kumar told PTI on the decision that is likely to have widespread socio-political ramifications in the state.
"A priest cannot be treated as landowner ('bhuswami'), and the revenue records will now have the name of the deities of the shrines," Kumar said.
It would help in dealing with largescale irregularities in temple land as priests have been buying and selling those as owners, he said.
"The Bihar government will simply implement the Supreme Court judgment passed on September 6, 2021. The SC bench of Justices Hemant Gupta and AS Bopanna had ruled that 'there is no mandate under the law' that the name of pujari or manager is required to be mentioned in the revenue records since the deity as the juristic person is the owner of the land," the minister said.
The bench had also cited the Ram Janmabhoomi case verdict to support its view that the deity presiding over a temple is a juristic person and can hold property in their name, he said.
"In the ownership column, the name of the deity is required to be mentioned. The occupation of the land is also by the deity, which is carried out by the servant or the managers, on behalf of the deity," he said.
Kumar said that he is visiting all divisional headquarters of the state regarding the matter and asking officers concerned to start the process at the earliest.
"All district revenue officers have been asked to identify the land sold by priests or heads of mutts in their areas. All such registration of properties will be cancelled, and the Bihar Religious Trust Board will take possession of those land," he said.
Recently, the Bihar Religious Trust Board stayed the sale of land belonging to 299 temples in Bhagalpur division because of procedural discrepancies, he said.
The Board is also scrutinising revenue records of 5,533 acres of land belonging to different temples and mutts in the Darbhanga division, he said.
