DMK leader K Ponmudy was re-inducted into Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin's cabinet by Governor TN Ravi on March 22nd.
This came after the Supreme Court warned the governor for refusing to administer the oath of office to Ponmudy as Higher Education Minister, citing constitutional morality.
Ponmudi was disqualified on December 21, 2023, when the Madras High Court convicted and sentenced him to three years imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case. &nbsp;But on March 11, the top court suspended the conviction.&nbsp;
Stalin has recommended to Ravi to induct Ponmudy in the state cabinet and allocate him the subjects Higher Education including Technical Education, Electronics, Science and Technology currently held by Backward Classes Minister R S Rajakannappan.
"The Hon'ble Governor has approved the recommendation. The swearing-in ceremony of the minister designate will be held today (March 22) at 3.30 pm at the Raj Bhavan," the release said.
On Thursday, the apex Court had voiced "serious concern" over the conduct of Ravi for his refusal to reinduct Ponmudy as a minister in the state cabinet even after it suspended his earlier conviction. The SC had directed the Governor to decide on the issue within 24 hours.

The Supreme Court voiced serious concerns over what it called Tamil Nadu governor's conduct after he refused to reinduct senior DMK leader K Ponmudi as a minister in the state cabinet.

Voicing "serious concern" over the conduct of Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi for his refusal to reinduct senior DMK leader K Ponmudi as a minister in the state cabinet, the Supreme Court on Thursday directed him to decide the issue within 24 hours. It said Ravi was defying the Supreme Court.
The governor has refused to re-induct Ponmudi, whose conviction and three- year sentence in a disproportionate assets case the apex court stayed recently, despite Chief Minister M K Stalin's recommendation.
A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud wondered how can the governor say that Ponmudi's reinduction will be against constitutional morality.
"Mr Attorney General, we are seriously concerned about the conduct of the governor. We did not want to say it out loud in court but he is defying the Supreme Court of India. Those who have advised him have not advised him properly. Now the Governor has to be informed that when the Supreme Court stays a conviction, it stays a conviction," the bench, also comprising Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, told AG R Venkataramani.
"If we do not hear from your person tomorrow, we will pass an order directing the governor to act according to the Constitution. we will pass an order," the bench told the AG.
The governor has refused to reinstate the senior DMK leader and former higher education minister into the state cabinet, saying it would be against constitutional morality.
The state government has sought a direction to the governor to act as per the aid and advice of the council of ministers led by Chief Minister M K Stalin.

Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi is once again in the spotlight. He has reportedly sent back 10 Assembly-approved bills in the last three years, increasing friction with Chief Minister MK Stalin and his party.
Media reports say these bills come back to the Assembly, which now plans to re-approve them without making any amendments.
An unnamed source has told the Deccan Herald that bills blocked by the CM were related to the establishment of a new institution called Siddha University. &ldquo;The government has decided to reenact these bills without any changes,&rdquo; the source told DH.
Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker M Appavu also spoke on the matter. &ldquo;The special session has been convened to reenact the bills. The government wanted the session to be convened,&rdquo; he said.
The anti&ndash;NET bill has been a friction point between the DMK and Tamil Nadu governor. It was rejected by the governor and has now been handed to President Droupadi Murmu.

Complaint against DMK's Sivaji Krishnamurthy for controversial remarks against Governor RN Ravi

State Bharatiya Janata Party leaders condemned Krishnamoorthy's remark against Governor RN Ravi and demanded his immediate arrest.

Days after ruckus erupted in Tamil Nadu assembly over Governor RN Ravi's customary speech, DMK leader Shivaji Krishnamoorthy has sparked a controversy with his remark against the state's governor.
Addressing an event on Thursday, Krishnamoorthy said, "If the governor refuses to utter the name of Ambedkar in his Assembly speech, don't I have the right to assault him?"
"If you (governor) don't read out the speech given by the Tamil Nadu government, then go to Kashmir, and we'll send terrorists so that they'll gun you down," Krishnamoorthy said.
State Bharatiya Janata Party leaders condemned Krishnamoorthy's remark against Governor RN Ravi and demanded his immediate arrest.
Meanwhile, Governor's Deputy Secretary lodged a complaint with Chennai Police seeking action against ruling DMK's public meeting speaker.&nbsp;

Tamil Nadu Assembly witnessed ruckus immediately after Governor R N Ravi began his customary address of the opening session on Monday. Legislators of the ruling DMK and its allies, the Congress and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) started raising slogans against the Governor for his recent remarks that 'Tamizhagam' rather than 'Tamil Nadu'would be more appropriate name for the State and staged a walkout from the assembly.
DMK MLAs also raised slogans against the Governor, saying "don't impose BJP, RSS ideology."
The DMK and allies opposed the Governor's stand and accused him of toeing the BJP's ideological position. "This is not Nagaland, this is proud Tamil Nadu," the legislators raised sloganeering. However, Governor Ravi continued delivering his address amid the uproar. There was also a demand to ban online gambling by the leaders in the assembly. Legislators protested putting the blame on the Governor who has not yet given his assent to the Bill banning online gambling.
The state is witnessing a tussle between the ruling DMK regime and the Raj Bhavan over several bills which are pending with the Governor including the one prohibiting online gambling, and wager-based online games of chance of Rummy.

Speaking on Kashmir, Governor Ravi said, "There is zero tolerance to violence. It may sound harsh but anyone who uses a gun should be dealt with a gun...There have been no talks with any armed group in the last 8 years, if only for surrender."&nbsp;

Addressing a session on 'Contemporary Challenges to Internal Security' in Kochi on Sunday, the Tamil Nadu Governor said, "When the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks happened, the whole country was traumatised; the country was humiliated by a handful of terrorists. Within 9 months of the attacks, our then PM and Pakistan PM signed a joint communique stating both countries were victims of terrorism."&nbsp;
"Do we have Sathrubodh? Is Pakistan a friend or an enemy? That has to be clear. If you try to be in between, you have confusion," he added.&nbsp;
In 2008, 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists (LeT) carried out 12 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks killing at least 174 people and leaving 300 wounded.&nbsp;
Speaking about the surgical strike as a befitting reply to Pakistan, he said, "After the Pulwama attack, we hit back at Pakistan in Balakot using our air power. The message was that if you commit an act of terrorism you will have to pay the cost."&nbsp;
According to him, India's internal security at present is better than what it was during Manmohan Singh's rule.&nbsp;
"During the time of Manmohan Singh, the serious threat to our internal security was the Maoist violence. They had spread to over 185 districts across central India. And people were even talking about the Red Corridor. The situation was alarming. Today, their presence is limited to less than 8 districts and that too at a much-reduced pace," he claimed.&nbsp;

"If you look at the instances of violence and cause of concern for the national security, you will see that there is a sharp decline. Neutralisation of the terrorists has been possible not because our system has improved dramatically, but largely because of people's cooperation. People have started rejecting the terrorists and cooperating with the system to normalise the situation."&nbsp;
Speaking on Kashmir, Governor Ravi said, "There is zero tolerance to violence. It may sound harsh but anyone who uses a gun should be dealt with a gun. No negotiation with anyone who talks against the unity and integrity of the country. There have been no talks with any armed group in the last 8 years, if only for surrender."&nbsp;
"In Jammu &amp; Kashmir, they have killed thousands of people and then Yasin Malik, a JKLF man will come to Delhi and he will shake hands with the Prime Minister. Hurriyat was the brain behind leading this. In the northeast, people killed hundreds of people and then we started talking to them and asked them to stop the violence. No negotiation, no talk with anyone who talks against the unity and integrity of our country.&nbsp;
"No question, no acceptance. It took time for the message to sink in. In the last 8 years, there has not been one negotiation, no talk with any of the armed groups. If it's a conversation, it is only for surrendering and rehabilitation, with no political content," stated the Governor.&nbsp;
Comments"In Maoist areas, there is an ideology, they don't believe in Constitutional parliamentary democracy. That's not acceptable. So there is no question of any negotiation or talk with the Maoists," he added.&nbsp;
