In the city of Cologne, climate activists glued themselves to a main street, while in Dusseldorf, they stuck themselves to a government building. Near Rommerskirchen, over a hundred protestors occupied coal railroad tracks.
In addition, several people occupied a giant digger at the coal mine of Inden, while hundreds of other protesters joined a protest march near Luetzerath. The village itself was evacuated by the police in recent days and is sealed off.
Thunberg had traveled to western Germany to participate in weekend demonstrations against the expanded mine and also took part in Tuesday's protest near Luetzerath. Police in nearby Aachen said a group of around 50 protesters got dangerously close to the rim of the mine and did not want to leave despite being asked to do so.

Sweden awoke Monday to the prospect of weeks of political uncertainty after neither of the country's blocs failed to secure a clear governing majority in elections that saw another boost for a far-right party that is now the country's second-largest. 

With more than 94% of the ballots counted, the centre-right opposition that includes Sweden's second largest party, the Sweden Democrats, had a razor-thin edge over the governing Social Democrats.

With more than 94 percent of the ballots counted, the centre-right opposition that includes Sweden's second largest party, the Sweden Democrats, had a razor-thin edge over the governing Social Democrats and their allies in the centre-left bloc headed by Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson, who has not resigned.
The result was so close that the election authority said a definitive outcome would not be known before Wednesday, when the uncounted votes, including those cast abroad, have been tallied. As of now, the preliminary results make it unlikely any party will secure a majority of 175 seats in the 349-seat Riksdag, Sweden's parliament.
&ldquo;It's incredibly close. It's basically a coin toss with 50-50 for both sides. So, we don't know at the moment," said Zeth Isaksson, a sociologist at Stockholm University.
The biggest winner of the evening was the populist anti-immigration Sweden Democrats, which had a strong showing of nearly 21 percent, its best result ever. The party gained on promises to crack down on shootings and other gang violence that have shaken a sense of security for many in Sweden.
The party has its roots in the white nationalist movement but years ago began expelling extremists. Despite its rebranding, voters long viewed it as unacceptable and other parties shunned it. But that has been changing, and its result in this election shows just how far it has come in gaining acceptance.
The Social Democrats, who have been in power in Sweden since 2014, remain the largest party with 30.5 percent of the vote. Andersson said it was obvious that the social democratic movement, which is based on ideals of creating an equal society and a strong welfare state, remains strong in Sweden.
The conservative bloc was led during the campaign by the centre-right Moderates, who won 19 percent. Leader Ulf Kristersson told his supporters that he stands ready to try to create a stable and effective government.
However, Sweden is likely to face a lengthy process to form a government, as it did after the 2018 election.
Andersson, a 55-year-old economist, became Sweden's first female prime minister less than a year ago and led Sweden's historic bid to join NATO following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February.&nbsp;

Paludan, who holds dual Danish-Swedish citizenship, “seems for some reason to hate Sweden and try to harm Sweden. I do not understand why” Justice Minister Morgan Johansson said.
In an interview with Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet published Wednesday, Johansson referred to online claims that surfaced earlier this year about Swedish social service agencies allegedly kidnapping Muslim children.
“There are many signs that they have been running here as well, campaigning and supporting this in various ways," the minister said.
The Foreign Ministry in Stockholm posted a Twitter thread in February devoted to what it termed “a disinformation campaign.” A Swedish agency established to counter misinformation said the kidnapping allegations could be traced to an Arabic-language site whose creator expressed support for the Islamic State group.
“We see how the image of Sweden is set by some of these actors in the Middle East," Aftonbladet quoted Johansson as saying. "It is also addressed by a couple of governments, in Iraq and in Iran.”
After word of Paludan's planned stunt reached Iran and the United Arab Emirates, the governments in Tehran and Dubai summoned Swedish diplomats to protest.
A total of 26 police officers and 14 other individuals — protesters or other people — were injured in the riots, and 20 police vehicles destroyed or damaged, officials have said.
The latest violence broke out Sunday night in Malmo, Sweden’s third-largest city, as an angry crowd of mainly young people set fire to tires, debris and garbage cans in an neighborhood known for high crime.
Unrest and violent clashes were reported in several other Swedish cities. Three people were hurt in Norrkoping on Sunday as they were hit by ricochets when police fired warning shots.
Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson is set to visit Norrkoping and Linkoping, another city that saw rioting, on Wednesday.
National police officials said Monday that they suspected some of the rioters were linked to criminal gangs that intentionally target police.

To support India in the battle against the coronavirus, Sweden plans to donate 1 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines via the UN-backed COVAX, an initiative devised to give countries access to coronavirus vaccines regardless of their wealth.
However, Sweden's donation to India will not have any impact on their vaccination drive. Sweden currently is only administering AstraZeneca shots to people 65 and over.
Sweden's vaccine coordinator Richard Bergstrom said there were enough spare vaccines that Swedes could give away.&nbsp;
