DCW chief Swati Maliwal has come under attack by BJP and the Congress after she said she was sexually assaulted by her father in her childhood.
On Sunday, Congress leader Radhika Khera shared the screenshot of an old tweet by Swati Maliwal which spoke about her father, alleging that the revelation of sexual assault was made because of the upcoming Haryana assembly elections this year.
Attacking the DCW chief over the tweet, BJP leader Priti Gandhi wrote, 'In 2016, Swati Maliwal was a proud daughter of an Army man and in 2023, her father was a sexual assaulter. Will the real Swati Maliwal please stand up?'
Former DCW chairperson Barkha Shukla also condemned Swati Maliwal's accusation against her father and said she probably has lost her mental balance, ANI reported.
Earlier on saturday, Maliwal said she was sexually assaulted by her father in her childhood and that the trauma gave her the strength to fight for the rights of women and children.
Speaking to reporters after the DCW International Women's Day Awards ceremony in New Delhi, Maliwal said she faced abuse till the time she was in Class 4.

Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal on Saturday said she was sexually assaulted by her father in her childhood and the trauma led her to fight for the rights of women.
Speaking to reporters after the DCW International Women's Day Awards ceremony here, Maliwal said she faced abuse till the time she was in Class 4.
"I was sexually assaulted by my father when I was a child. I was very small at that time. My father used to beat me up and I used to hide under the bed to save myself," she said.
"While hiding under the bed, I used to think how I will teach a lesson to such men who abuse women and children, and how I can help women get their rights," she said.

A 47-year-old named Harish Chandra was later arrested by police.

Yog Ramdev has sparked a controversy after he allegedly made a sexist comment on women&rsquo;s attire recently. The remark was reportedly made at an event in Maharashtra&rsquo;s Thane last Friday.&nbsp;
A video clip from the event wherein Ramdev can be heard saying, &lsquo;Women can look good in anything - saree, salwar kameez or even when they wear nothing.&rsquo; has now gone viral with people from all walks of lives slamming Ramdev.
Condemning his comments, Delhi Women's Commission chief Swati Maliwal has sought an apology from Ramdev to the entire country.
Trinamool Congress's Mahua Moitra also took to Twitter and slammed Ramdev's comment.
Notably, the comment was made in presence of Maha Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis&rsquo;s wife Amruta Fadnavis, to which the Uddhav Thackeray Shiv Sena faction has questioned why she did not protest against Ramdev's comments.

Delhi Commission For Women chief Swati Maliwal on Monday alleged that a man forcibly entered her residence and vandalised two cars, while she was not present at home.
"A few moments back, an attacker forced his way into my residence and attacked it. He vandalised my mother and my cars and made an attempt to enter the house," Maliwal said in a tweet in Hindi.
"By the grace of God, my mother and I were not present there. You can do anything but I am not going to be scared. I am complaining to Delhi Police," she said.

In a Twitter post, Maliwal alleged that she has been getting rape threat on her Instagram DMs. Sharing a screenshot of the messages on the microblogging site, Maliwal said "Obviously, they want to stop our work. I am complaining to Delhi Police. Register FIR and investigate. Arrest those who are behind this," Swati Maliwal tweeted.
The DCW chairpersn moved against Sajid Khan demanding his removal from TV reality show Bigg Boss as Khan had previously been embroiled in #MeToo movement. Several women had brought sexual harassment charges against him during the movement.&nbsp;
Seeking action from the information and broadcasting ministry, Maliwal wrote to the ministry and said that it is inappropriate to feature a "sexual predator" in a primetime show. However, there has been no response from the ministry yet, Maliwal tol ANI.&nbsp;
Meanwhile, Federation of Western India Cine Employees in its letter to I&amp;B miniter said that Khan has already served the punishment as he was banned to work in the industry for an year.&nbsp;

All these complaints show the disgusting mentality of Sajid. Now, this man has been given a place in Bigg Boss, which is wrong. I have written to @ianuragthakur to have Sajid Khan removed from this show.’
In her letter, Maliwal also said, ‘Sajid Khan's inclusion in the show underlines the precedence that men who enjoy clout in the entertainment industry easily get away with abusive acts without facing any consequences. It also disrespects and invalidates those women who spoke out against his inappropriate sexual advances. I demand that Sajid Khan should be barred from participating in the upcoming reality show and an investigation should be conducted against him.
