Former Bihar Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi died Monday night after battling cancer, ANI reported. He was 72.
Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary shared the news of his demise through a post on X, expressing his sorrow.
He wrote, "Heartfelt condolences on the demise of former Deputy Chief Minister and former Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sushil Kumar Modi ji. This is an irreparable loss for the Bihar BJP."
Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha also expressed his condolences on Sushil Kumar Modi's demise.
He wrote on X, "Senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party and former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Shri Sushil Modi ji is no longer among us. This is an irreparable loss for the entire BJP organization family and countless workers like me. He will always be remembered for his organizational skills, administrative acumen, and deep understanding of social and political issues. May his departed soul rest in peace and may his family find strength during this time of grief." &nbsp;

Former Bihar Deputy CM and senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi has revealed that he was diagnosed with cancer six months ago.

Forner Bihar Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi on Wednesday revealed that he was diagnosed with cancer six months ago, and would not take part in the BJP's Lok Sabha poll campaign.
Modi, 72, was named by the BJP as one of its star campaigners for the state and a member of its election manifesto committee.
"I have been battling cancer for the last six months. Now, I feel that the time has come to inform people about it. I will not be able to do anything for the Lok Sabha elections," he posted on X.
"I have told everything to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I will always remain grateful and dedicated to the country, Bihar and the party," he added.
During his political career spanning over three decades, Modi was an MLA, an MLC, a member of Lok Sabha, and a Rajya Sabha MP. He was the deputy CM of the state from 2005 to 2013, and from 2017 to 2020.
He joined students' politics while studying at Patna University, and became the general secretary of its students' union in 1973. He became an MLA for the first time in 1990 from the Patna Central constituency and was made the chief whip of the BJP legislature party.
From 1996 to 2004, he was the leader of the opposition in the state assembly. He became a member of Lok Sabha in 2004 from Bhagalpur.
He gave up his Lok Sabha membership in 2005 and became a member of the legislative council, following which he was made the deputy chief minister with Nitish Kumar as the CM.
He was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2020, and retired earlier this year.&nbsp;

Reacting furiously to the development, senior leader Sushil Kumar Modi, who had served as Kumar’s deputy for more than a decade and is considered as his most trusted man in the BJP, accused the former boss of telling “blatant lie”.
“It is a blatant lie that BJP had made RCP Singh a minister without the consent of Nitish ji. Another lie is that the BJP was trying to split the JD(U). He was looking for an excuse to break ties. The BJP will return to power with a thumping majority in 2024," Modi tweeted.
Notably, Kumar had cited a “unanimous sentiment” in his JD(U) as the reason behind making the sudden move. His party’s ties with the BJP, though dating back to the 1990s, barring a four years hiatus that began with his first breaking away in 2013, have been chequered.
However, in the recent past the two parties squabbled on a whole range of issues though the tipping point, according to JD(U) sources, came with alleged attempts of RCP Singh, a former national president who has for some time come to be seen as “BJP’s man”, to split the party.
At a press conference here soon after Kumar met the governor, along with RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad accused the chief minister of inconsistency in his beliefs.

The election for the 243-seat Bihar assembly is being held in 3 phases &ndash; 71 constituencies will vote in the first phase on October 28, 94 seats will go to polls in the second phase on November 3 and third phase on November 7 will cover 78 assembly seats. The ballots will be counted on November 10. &nbsp;
Around 7.29 crore people including nearly 78 lakh first-time voters will decide the fate of political stalwarts like Nitish Kumar and as well as that of rising sons like Tejashwi Yadav and Chirag Paswan. &nbsp;
Alliances have changed since the last Bihar assembly elections in 2015 which saw the RJD, JD(U) and Congress combine come to power. However, Nitish Kumar walked out of this grand alliance in 2017 to return to the BJP-led NDA fold. He continued as the Chief Minister but BJP&rsquo;s Sushil Kumar Modi replaced RJD&rsquo;s Tejashwi Yadav as the Deputy Chief Minister. &nbsp;
2020 might be the younger Yadav scion&rsquo;s year of vengeance as he takes the field as the chief ministerial candidate of the Congress-RJD Mahagathbandhan. The RJD has bagged the lion&rsquo;s share and will be contesting 144 seats, Congress 70 seats and the CPI-ML, CPI and CPI(M) will be contesting a total of 29 seats. The grand alliance is however a few allies short with Vikasheel Insaan Party and former CM Jiten Manjhi&rsquo;s Hindustani Awam Morcha quitting the alliance and joining NDA. &nbsp;
The ruling coalition may have gained 2 allies but it lost 1 very important ally with Lok Janshakti Party led by late Ram Vilas Paswan&rsquo;s son Chirag Paswan deciding to party ways with NDA in Bihar over differences with Nitish Kumar. While the LJP will fight the polls alone, it will field candidates only against JD(U) and not the BJP.&nbsp;
The saffron party is contesting 110 seats, the JD(U) 115 seats and smaller allies Vikasheel Insaan Party and CM Jiten Ram Manjhi&rsquo;s HAM will be fighting from 11 and 7 seats respectively.&nbsp;
There are other minor political parties and alliances in the fray as well. Former NDA ally Upendra Khushwaha&rsquo;s Rashtriya Lok Samta Party has joined hands with Asaduddin Owaisi&rsquo;s AIMIM.
