Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh criticised the Congress on Saturday for floating "preposterous lies&rsquo; in a bid to cover up mishandling" of the party&rsquo;s crisis in the state.
Singh&rsquo;s remarks follow Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala claim that it wasn&rsquo;t party president Sonia Gandhi but the Congress MLAs who made Amarinder Singh quit as the Punjab chief minister. Amarinder Singh had accused the Congress leadership of "humiliating" him after he tendered his resignation as the Punjab CM.
Pointing out the "conflicting numbers" shared by the party's Punjab in-charge Harish Rawat and senior leader Surjewala, Amarinder Singh termed it "a comedy of errors."
Harish Rawat in a press statement, said that 43 MLAs had written to the high command on the issue while Surjewala said the CM had to quit after 78 party MLAs sought his removal.
Amarinder slammed the Congress, saying the party is in disarray and the crisis is escalating by the day, with a large majority of its senior leaders completely disenchanted with the party's functioning
