The first set was on an even keel with both players breaking each other once. Serving to stay in the set, Nagal lost his serve in the 12th game with Arnaldi attacking the Indian's first serve.
However, Nagal remained unperturbed and broke his rival twice in the second set for a comfortable 4-1 lead. His serve came under pressure in game six but he held and closed the set forcing a decider.
After trading a break with Arnaldi, Nagal broke his rival's serve for the second time in the seventh game of the third set to take a 4-3 lead and that proved to be decisive in the final outcome of the match. He consolidated the lead by pocketing the eighth game and served out the match in game 10.
As Arnaldi hit his forehand over the baseline on match point, Nagal let out a roar to celebrate his win.
Nagal had beaten world number 63 Flavio Cobolli of Italy 6-2 6-3 in the first round of the qualifying event and followed that up with victory over Argentina's world number 55 Facundo Diaz Acosta.

Sumit Nagal was put through his sternest test yet by Coleman Wong but the second seeded Indian had enough grunt in him to fight past the Hong Kong man to enter the quarterfinals of the Bengaluru Open here on Thursday.
Nagal won 6-2 7-5 after an hour and 46 minutes of intense battle.
But the beginning belied the struggles awaited Nagal in the later stages of the match.
Nagal continued the pattern of earning an early break when he went up 2-0 in the opening set. But it was not all smooth sailing as the 26-year-old had to battle past from 0-30 down in the very next game to hold his serve.
Nagal got another break in the eighth game to bag the first set 6-2.
But the 19-year-old Wong had more fight in him in the second set.
After the first four games went by serve, the Hong Kong player broke Nagal in the fifth game, and it was the first time the Indian dropped his serve in this tournament.
Wong found his serves and ground shots going during this passage, as Nagal looked a tad perplexed by the unexpected fightback.
However, the world No. 98 broke back in the sixth game itself to restore the parity at 3-3, though it was more the result of his rival committing a couple of unforced errors.
In the seventh game, Nagal found himself 0-40 down as Wong pulled out a couple of fine winners on either flank of the court.
But Nagal lifted his game by a notch at this moment to make it a deuce and a couple of points later he managed to hold the serve to go 4-3 up.
The Indian star received a brilliant chance to close out the game in the 10th game when he went up 40-15 on Wong;s serve.
But Wong saved both the match points, hammering an ace down the middle first and followed it up with another bazooka serve that Nagal failed to retrieve from his backhand.
Wong eventually held his serve when Nagal drove a backhand into the net.
But Nagal did not miss his third match point which came in the 12th game.
Up 40-30, Nagal was pushed to a corner by Wong's strong volley, but the former champion found enough space to squeeze in a forehand cross court winner to finally walk off the court with a relived smile on his face.

Come Monday, Nagal will be ranked 98th in the world, five years after compatriot Prajnesh Gunneswaran achieved the feat.

Sumit Nagal downed top seed Luca Nardi 6-1, 6-4 in Sunday's Chennai Open final to break into the top 100 for the very first time in his career.&nbsp; This is Nagal's 5th title of the ATP Challenger Tour and comes on the back of an illustrious start to the 2024 season which saw him play second round at the Australian Open in January.&nbsp;
As a result, India's leading singles player on Monday jumped 23 spots to break into the top 100 of the ATP singles rankings for the first time in his career.
The win at the Chennai Open challenger event on Sunday pushed Nagal to 98th in the latest singles rankings led by Serbian Novak Djokovic.
Last month, Nagal became the first Indian to beat a seeded player at a Grand Slam in 35 years when he upset then world no.27 Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan in the first round. He eventually lost to China's Juncheng Shang in the second round.
Nagal is the first Indian to feature in the top 100 since left-handed Prajnesh Gunneswaran made the cut in 2019.
"I'm very emotional. You know, every tennis player's dream is to be top 100 at least. And like I said earlier, to win this match in front of the home crowd in your own country, I don't think I could have asked for a better place," Nagal said after his victory in Chennai on Sunday.
"I don't think there were words, everyone was crying. Less words, more tears. I'm still very emotional. It's been very tough last year with being ranked 500, getting surgery done, not having financial support.
"A lot of ups and downs, you know. And I'm very happy that I found a way to push every single day and give myself a chance to be here."

The 26-year-old Nagal was definitely the better player on the day, serving superbly in the first set and earning a whole lot of points on his second serve.
In the second set, Nagal converted both the break points he earned even as his opponent committed a string of unforced errors.
In an all-Indian men's doubles final, Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar Ramanathan will take on country-mates Rithvik Bollipalli and Niki Poonacha later in the day.

It will be an all-Indian final in the doubles with the other pair being the fourth-seed Rithvik Choudary Bollipalli and Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha.
The duo who fought off the German challenge of Jakob Schnaitter and Mark Wallner 6-3 4-6 10-7.

Like I said, of course, we can sit here all day and talk about it, but in a simple word I will just say it's change the system. That's it."
