An encounter broke out between security forces and Naxalites in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Tuesday morning, a senior police official said.
The exchange of fire started out on a forested hill in the district when a joint team of security personnel was out on an anti-Naxal operation in the area, he said.
Personnel belonging to the Special Task Force (STF), District Reserve Guard (DRG), both units of the state police, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), were involved in the operation launched on Monday based on inputs about the presence of Maoists in the area, he said.
The operation was still underway and further details were awaited, he added.
As many as 225 Naxalites have been killed in separate encounters in Chhattisgarh so far this year. Of them, 208 were eliminated in the Bastar division, which includes Bijapur, Bastar, Kanker, Konadagaon, Narayanpur, Sukma and Dantewada districts.&nbsp;

A day after eight police personnel and a civilian driver were killed in a blast in Bijapur, security forces on Tuesday recovered a 10 kg improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Maoists in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, police said.
A team of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and district police found the explosive device near Belpochcha village on the Konta-Golapalli road, an official said.
He said during a de-mining exercise on the route, security personnel spotted the IED planted beneath the road and averted a major mishap.
The explosive has been neutralised, he added.
Naxalites on Monday blew up the security personnel's vehicle using a 60-70 kg IED near Ambeli village under the Kutru police station area in Bijapur district.
Eight security personnel, four each from the state police's District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Bastar Fighters units, travelling in the SUV and the vehicle's driver died on the spot.
Naxalites often plant explosives to target security forces during their anti-Naxal operations in Bastar division, comprising seven districts, including Sukma, police said.

A sub-inspector of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was killed and a constable injured in an encounter between security personnel and Naxalites in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Sunday, police said.
The incident took place in the morning under Jagargunda police station area when a team of the CRPF's 165th battalion was out on an anti-Naxal operation, a police official said.
The operation was launched at around 7 am from Bedre camp towards Ursangal village, he said.
During the operation, an exchange of fire broke out in which sub-inspector Sudhakar Reddy was killed and constable Ramu sustained bullet injuries, he said.
After the exchange of fire stopped, four suspects were rounded up from the spot, he said, adding a joint team of security personnel was carrying out a search in the area.
The injured constable was being shifted to hospital for treatment, the official said.&nbsp;
