In 2013, in a gruesome incident an undergraduage student of the School of Languages, Literature and Cultural Studies, hit his female friend with an axe on the head. Immediately after the boy, who was carrying a country made gun with him, nicked himself on the neck. The boy died, the girl survived. 
On February 09, 2016 a gathering was organised by certain left student organisations. The public meeting was held on the day of Afzal Guru's hanging in 2003. ABVP students protested against the event, and clashes ensued. A group of individuals allegedly raised anti-India slogans, on the basis of which, the police filed a sedition case against the then JNUSU president, Kanhaiya Kumar. Apart from Kumar, sedition cases were also filed against Anirban Bhattacharya and Umer Khalid.
After being released from jail, Kanhaiya delivered a speech late at night which was attended by thousands, launching his political career. 
Shortly after, BJP leader Gyan Dev Ahuja, alleged that the university was in fact a sex den and 50% of the rapes and molestation of women in Delhi were committed by students of JNU. He added further that 3,000 condoms and 2,000 bottles of liquor could be found each day in the campus. The university is 8,000 students strong as of 2022. 
That wasn't the only time JNU and condoms were used in the same sentence. In 2005, JNU got its first condom vending machine. Many Delhiits and students residing in Delhi used to make trips to the campus to "just look" at the machines. 
In November 2020, the JNU admin filed a case against unknown individuals for vandalising the not yet unveiled statue of Vivekananda. 
And earlier that year, before Covid was a perceptible threat, in January, around a hundred masked 'intruders' entered the university and beat up students. JNUSU president Aishi Ghosh was injured in the attack. No action against the perpetrators has been taken yet.

Ahead of the admission process to higher educational institutes which is set to begin in Madhya Pradesh on August 1, the state&rsquo;s higher education department has notified rules barring students facing criminal charges from getting admissions to universities and colleges.
A 48-page new rule book for admissions was notified on July 15 and made available to colleges.
Students seeking admissions will have to submit declarations that there are no pending cases against them to get admissions. Students found guilty of misbehaving with faculty, staff, or other students and vandalising property will also not get admissions.
Student leaders are however not in agreement. They have said the rules could be misused for targeting students on an ideological basis and for participating in protests against the government or colleges.
Higher education department principal secretary Anupam Rajan said they will ensure more clarity in the rules so that genuine students do not suffer.

Early Childhood Care & Education in the NEP 2020 with Kamal Gaur

Last month, the Union Government approved the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Since then, many prominent personalities have spoken about its potential for transforming India&rsquo;s education sector. The vision for 2040 outlines many new interventions including that of Early Childhood Care &amp; Education (ECCE) across anganwadis, syllabi, caregivers and private schools. However, as previous education reforms have shown, the devil lies in the implementation of the policy. This isn&rsquo;t surprising since education relies on a vast network of stakeholders including State Governments, anganwadis, teachers, parents and much more. In this light, can the NEP successfully implement positive changes in Early Childhood Care &amp; Education in India? And how?
