In Ranchi, 55-year-old Pradip Pandey was arrested after allegedly shooting a stray dog for chasing him. The incident was captured on video, leading to public outcry and a legal case under animal harm and the Arms Act, sparking debates on urban animal safety.

A 55-year-old man allegedly shot a stray dog to death in Ranchi on Tuesday after it chased him, police said.
The incident happened in Tatisilwai on the outskirts of the city, they said.
The accused, identified as Pradip Pandey, was arrested after a purported video of the incident went viral on social media, they added.
A case was filed against him under BNS section 25 (causing harm to animals) and the Arms Act, Tatisilwai police station's in-charge Ranjit Kumar Sinha told PTI.
Pandey allegedly killed the dog with his licensed firearm, he said.
He told police that the dog had bitten several people in the area and also chased him to bite.

Caught on cam: Chandigarh woman feeding stray dog hit by speeding SUV 

Tejashwita's mother, who was reportedly at a distance feeding other dogs rushed to her help and informed police.

In a horrific incident, a 25-year-old woman who was feeding a stray dog by the footpath in Chandigarh was run over by a speeding SUV, according to the NDTV.
As per the report, the incident which took place on January 14 2023, late at night was caught on camera.&nbsp; The CCTV footage of the accident shows the victim, Tejashwita feeding a stray dog when a speeding SUV rams into her head-on. The woman was thrown into the air before she falls near a car.&nbsp;
Tejashwita's mother, who was reportedly at a distance feeding other dogs rushed to her help and informed police. Tejashwita is reportedly recovering in a hospital. However, the SUV driver is still at large, reported the NDTV.&nbsp;

Students thrash pregnant dog to death in Delhi; angry activists seek action

After the video of the gruesome killing which happened in a park surfaced on social media, New Friends Colony Police registered an FIR in the matter.

Around 25 students and staff members suspected to be of Don Bosco Technical Institute in South East Delhi allegedly ganged up against a pregnant street dog and bludgeoned her to death after torturing her, officials said.

The disturbing video shows an all male gang of students cornering the scared dog inside a tin shed on the institute's campus which is entered by a student with a rod in his hand, and the remaining students egging him on from outside, they said.
The 15-minute-long video carrying horrid visual of the torture and killing of the animal went viral on Saturday with activists and dog lovers seeking strict actions against the accused, suspected to be students of the institute located in Okhla.
Later, one of the crowd members could be seen dragging the dog through what has reported to be the college compound.
The ghastly act surfaced within days of another such video from Ghaziabad which showed three people killing a dog by hanging him in a grotesque manner. The accused in this incident were booked in a case by police after a complaint.
"It is horrific to see such brutality by young students who can be seen laughing as they beat an expectant mother to death," said Ambika Shukla, Trustee, PFA.

Supreme Court rejects MP woman's plea seeking protection of stray dogs

The Supreme Court Friday refused to entertain a plea by a woman seeking protection for over 60 stray dogs whom she claimed to foster.
A bench of Justices M R Shah and M M Sundresh asked the lawyer appearing for the petitioner to file a plea seeking impleadment in a similar matter pending before a different bench.
"Keeping stray dogs does not mean, you will take them to streets, fight and affect the lives of the people...," the bench observed.
"As it is reported that on the similar issue, another bench is considering the matter, the present writ petition is not entertained," the bench said in its order.
The apex court was hearing a plea filed by Madhya Pradesh-based Samrin Bano, who contended that stray dogs were not being protected in the state.
She alleged that authorities were not taking any action and sought protection for 67 stray dogs whom she claimed to foster.
