BJP leader Smriti Irani praised the NDA government in Bihar for empowering women through schemes like Jan Dhan and Ujjawala Yojana, while condemning RJD&rsquo;s request to the Election Commission to stall benefits ahead of state polls.

Former Union minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani on Tuesday asserted that the NDA government in Bihar uplifted women from the shadow of helplessness and fear, paving the way for their empowerment.
Irani also said she was pained over the RJD's appeal to the Election Commission to &ldquo;stall&rdquo; the benefits of women's welfare schemes in Bihar.
&ldquo;The &lsquo;Jan Dhan Yojana&rsquo; has benefitted more than 3 crore women in Bihar, and 1.16 crore women have received benefits under the Ujjawala Yojana. We have also seen the fulfilment of the promise of toilets in each household,&rdquo; Irani told reporters here.
&ldquo;For me, it&rsquo;s a matter of pain that on one hand, the NDA government is directly transferring money into the accounts of women beneficiaries in Bihar, while on the other, RJD leaders have given a written proposal to the EC to stall the benefits,&rdquo; she said.
RJD MP Manoj Jha had written to the EC on October 31, accusing the Bihar government of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by transferring money to women under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana on October 17, 24 and 31.
Jha had claimed it constitutes a clear and deliberate breach of the MCC provisions that came into effect on October 6, following the announcement of the Bihar assembly election schedule.
Irani also said the NDA government passed the Women&rsquo;s Reservation Bill in Parliament despite resistance from opposition parties.
&ldquo;The women of Bihar are confident that the NDA will form government in Bihar again, and not the &lsquo;thug bandhan&rsquo;,&rdquo; she said, in an apparent reference to the Mahagathbandhan in the state.
The Bihar assembly polls will be held in two phases on November 6 and November 11, while the counting of votes will take place on November 14.

The newly-released promo of the Star Plus programme shows Irani's Tulsi Virani talking to someone on video call. She greets the guest with her trademark Jai Shri Krisna, which is reciprocated by the the caller on the other end.&nbsp;
"It feels really nice that you are connecting with my family directly from America. We are waiting for you eagerly," Tulsi says.&nbsp;
The promo then cuts to her looking directly in the camera and addressing the audience: "You are wondering who is going to connect with the Virani family directly from America. Please wait."&nbsp;
Show insiders said that the mystery guest would be Gates. It would mark Gates' second appearance on a show after his cameo in the American show The Big Bang Theory.&nbsp;
According to reports, Gates will talk about maternal and newborn health as well as the charitable endeavours of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in this direction.&nbsp;
Irani, the former minister for Women and Child Development, also confirmed the identity of the show's guest in an interview with CNBC-TV18.&nbsp;
"This is a historic moment in Indian entertainment... For far too long, women and children's health has remained on the margins of mainstream dialogue. This initiative is a powerful step towards changing that," Irani told the outlet.&nbsp;

Smriti Irani returns as Tulsi Virani in the Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi reboot, reviving fond memories and family drama 25 years after the iconic show's debut.

Nostalgia is in the air with Smriti Irani's Tulsi Virani back on the small screen to unravel the Virani family saga, the "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi" reboot promising a familiar story rooted in tradition 25 years after it sparked a daily soap trend.
The show, which began airing on Star Plus and JioHotstar on Tuesday night, is remembered for bringing families together in front of the television as they breathlessly watched the goings-on in the affluent joint family.
The first episode focuses on the 38th wedding anniversary of the main protagonists, Mihir and Tulsi. The ideal daughter-in-law is now at the helm of affairs in the Virani family mansion Shanti Niketan and the story opens with her praying to a tulsi plant and reciting the Gayatri Mantra.
The tone is set -- apparently not very different from 2000 when the Ekta Kapoor show first began airing. It went on for 1,800 more episodes right up to 2008.
Two main characters have died -- Ba and Savita Virani are now pictures on the wall and Tulsi is seen reminiscing about the days gone by and speaking to them. Several old-timers made sure to tune into the show, which created a buzz with BJP leader Smriti Irani returning to acting after a long hiatus.
"When I was a child, my mother used to watch the serial... She would watch it everyday. This time also, I watched the first episode and I liked it a lot," a young woman, then just a child, told PTI in Amethi, Irani's former constituency.
In Amethi, where Irani enjoys immense popularity both as a public figure and a performer, residents gathered in groups to watch the premiere episode together.
Many on social media also remembered fondly the time they spent as children and with their family to watch the many upheavals in the Virani family for eight years and various time leaps. Now that the show has returned with an actual time leap, nostalgia has driven them back.
"No words can describe the feeling. It&rsquo;s pure nostalgia. So many real life memories associated with &lsquo;Kyunki&rsquo;. That golden era of television is back #kyunkisaasbhikabhibahuthi #tulsiisback," wrote a fan.
A fan wrote how she used to watch the show with her maternal grandmother, who is no longer alive.
"Kyunki is back&hellip; but the one I used to watch it with isn&rsquo;t. it was me &amp; Nani. Now it&rsquo;s just me&hellip; and her memories #Nostalgic," she shared.
Actor Hiten Tejwani and Gauri Pradhan, who played a married couple on the original show, are also back as Karan and Nandini.
"Evergreen Karan and Nandini... Ahhhh... Still they look so beautiful together. Karan n Tulsi bond used to be so precious," said a viewer.
"Currently watching 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' and lowkey vibing to the OG soap opera that raised a generation," wrote another social media user.
A lot has changed since "Kyunki..." released all those years ago. OTT has revolutionised the entertainment scene with the best of shows from India and abroad available to audiences at the click of a button.
It remains to be seen whether "Kyunki..." manages to grab the attention of younger and newer audiences used to slicker, more contemporary shows and bring back those who tuned in all those years ago.
The "Kyunki..." setting 25 years on remains much the same. Matriarch Tulsi is busy looking after the arrangements for a big party when Mihir surprises her by gifting a car. The show ends with a hint of fresh challenges coming Tulsi's way. There are a few concessions to today's age with references to social media and late night parties.
Will that be enough? "Kyunki..." achieved cult status in daily soaps and became a pop culture moment that was popularly referenced by Karan Johar in "Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham" where Kajol's character is excitedly discussing developments in the show with a neighbour.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap's popular 2012 gangster drama "Gangs of Wasseypur 1" literally opens with the show's opening montage where Tulsi is inviting viewers to the family drama as a group of people are watching the show in rapt attention but the calm and the TV set is broken by bullets.
Many past favourites "Kasauti Zindagi Ki", "Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai" and "Khichdi" made a comeback but with not much success.
The makers of "Kyunki..." hope to change that.

The original Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi first aired in 2000 and quickly became a cultural phenomenon. Created by Ektaa Kapoor and produced by Balaji Telefilms, it ran for eight years and consistently topped television ratings.
To mark the show's 25th anniversary, Irani shared a heartfelt post on Instagram. &ldquo;25 years ago, a story entered Indian homes and quietly became part of countless lives. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi wasn't just a show--it was emotion, memory, ritual. A time when families paused everything to sit together... cry, laugh, hope. To every viewer who made Tulsi a part of their own family, thank you. This journey wasn't mine alone. It was ours. And it always will be,&rdquo; she wrote.
Ektaa Kapoor also commemorated the milestone by sharing a nostalgic video from the original series. In her caption, she wrote, &ldquo;25 YEARS!!! Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi wasn't just a show... it was an emotion. A piece of my heart. A dream that started with folded hands and limitless faith in Shri Balaji... a story that became India's story. Smriti Irani, who left acting to join politics, is returning to the screen after 15 years. She served as the Minister of Women and Child Development and is currently a BJP leader and Member of Parliament.
During a conversation with Barkha Dutt and Karan Johar in We The Women in London, Irani shared that the reboot had been in discussion since 2014. &ldquo;If you look at the Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi journey in totality, the most well-kept secret about it was I had a contract to do it again in 2014, and I walked away from it because I had to serve in the Indian Parliament as a cabinet minister. The set was ready, but there was a phone call from the Prime Minister's office that you have to take an oath,&rdquo; she revealed.
She also recalled a conversation with the late actor Rishi Kapoor. &ldquo;I remember Rishi Kapoor telling me to leave now because to serve your country is a greater service than just doing a movie or doing television,&rdquo; Irani said.
With the new chapter set to begin on July 29, audiences old and new await the return of Tulsi Virani and the Virani family&mdash;ready to relive a legacy that shaped Indian television.

The BJP MP counter-questioned the anchor when asked about the female wrestlers.
She brought BJP leader Babita Phogat, who is also Vinesh Phogat&rsquo;s cousin, into the mix by asking why Babita isn't supporting her sister's protest.
&lsquo;I had a chat with Babita Phogat before this interview. Do you think a world-famous wrestler like Babita Phogat will support those who exploited others &amp; especially her family members?&rsquo; Irani asked the anchor.
She also called out the wrestlers who had stated on Tuesday that they would immerse their medals into the Ganga river at 6 PM and didn't do it till 8 pm.
The wrestlers have been demanding the arrest of ex-WFI chief Brijbhushan Singh. On their demands, Irani said, &lsquo;Those who are aware of laws know that the legal procedure is going on. If there is an intervention now, then it will go against those women.&rsquo;
FIRs have been filed against Brijbhushan by the Delhi Police on April 28. A month later, the probe into the sexual allegations is still on.
Irani also mentioned calls by opposition leaders over the ongoing investigation saying, &lsquo;I want to know why the opposition leaders want to deprive these wrestlers of the fair and impartial probe.&rsquo; Babita Phogat had played the role of a mediator between the government and the grapplers during the first leg of wrestlers' protests in January this year. However, she has not been a part of the protests since April.

Former actor-politician Smriti Irani has opened up on how she was asked to continue work a day after her miscarriage. She said that a co-star also told her show producer Ekta Kapoor that she might be lying about the miscarriage.&nbsp;
In an interview with Neelesh Misra on The Slow Interview, Smriti said she learnt a lesson on humanity during her miscarriage. She said that she was also shooting for TV series &lsquo;Ramayan&rsquo; at that time. She shared how it would've been easy to move the schedule of 'Kyunki..&rsquo;, with 50 characters in the show, but it would have been difficult in the case of director Ravi Chopra&rsquo;s 'Ramayan'. However, she couldn&rsquo;t get an off from the makers of daily soap but Ravi Chopra considered her situation.
Smriti said, &lsquo;I was not aware that I am pregnant. I was on the set (of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi) and I told them I am not well enough to shoot and asked to be allowed to go home. But still, I worked, and by the time they let me go, it was evening already. The doctor suggested I go for a sonography. On my way, I started bleeding, and I remember it was raining. I stopped an auto and asked the driver to take me to the hospital. I reached the hospital, a nurse came running to ask for an autograph, while I was bleeding. I gave her the autograph, and asked her, &lsquo;Admit kar loge, I think I am miscarrying.'
Smriti also shared that she was called to work the next day from the production team of &lsquo;Kyunki..&rsquo; She went on to share that she was working two shifts a day at that time.&nbsp;

Police here have registered a case against Congress leader Ajay Rai for his "latka-jhatka" remark against Union minister Smriti Irani, an official said on Tuesday.
The Uttar Pradesh Congress leader on Monday took a jibe at Irani here, saying she only comes to her constituency Amethi to show "latkas" and "jhatkas", an unflattering reference to dance moves that provoked a sharp response from the BJP.
Station House Officer of Roberstganj Police Station, Balmukund Mishra, told PTI, "A case has been registered against Ajay Rai on the complaint lodged by BJP's mahila morcha head of Sonbhdra Pushpa Singh at the Robertsganj Police Station." The case has been registered under sections 354(A) (sexual harassment and punishment for sexual harassment), 501 (printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory), and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code.

Asked if Gandhi will contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Amethi, Rai had told reporters, "It has been the seat of the Gandhi family. Rahul ji has been the Lok Sabha MP from there. So has been Rajiv (Gandhi) ji and Sanjay (Gandhi) ji, and they have served it." "Most of the factories in Amethi are on the verge of closure. Half of the factories in Jagdishpur industrial area are lying shut. Smriti Irani only comes, shows 'latka-jhatka', and leaves," Rai, who is a regional chief of the party had said.
Currently, Amethi is represented in Lok Sabha by Union Minister for Women and Child Development Irani.
Responding to the statement, Irani said Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi needed a new scriptwriter.
"You and Mummy ji need to get your mysoginistic (misogynist) goons a new speechwriter,&rdquo; the Union Minister for Women and Child Development had said.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP leader Smriti Irani had unseated Rahul Gandhi from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. Gandhi had also contested from Wayanad in Kerala, and now represents the southern constituency in the Parliament.

The Delhi High Court on Friday issued summons to Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh, Pawan Khera, and Netta D'Souza on a civil defamation suit filed by BJP leader Smriti Irani, and asked them to take down tweets and other social media posts on allegations levelled against the minister and her daughter.

The Delhi High Court on Friday issued summons to Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh, Pawan Khera and Netta D'Souza on a civil defamation suit filed by BJP leader Smriti Irani, and asked them to take down tweets and other social media posts on allegations levelled against the minister and her daughter.
Irani, the Minister for Women and Child Development, has sought damages of over Rs 2 crore from the Congress leaders for allegedly making baseless and false allegations against her and her daughter.
The court said in case the defendants fail to comply with its directions to remove tweets, retweets, posts, videos and photos from social media in relation to the allegations made against Irani, and her daughter within 24 hours, social media platforms Twitter, Facebook and YouTube shall take down the material.
Irani's action came after the Congress leaders alleged that her 18-year-old daughter Zoish Irani ran a bar illegally in Goa and also targeted the minister over this, demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi sack her from his Cabinet.
The high court said "slanderous and bogus" allegations were made against Irani and added that, "Plaintiff has made out a prima facie case and balance of convenience lies in favour of the plaintiff and against the defendants".
"I am of the prima facie view that slanderous allegations were made against the plaintiff without verifying actual facts. Grave injury has been caused to the reputation of the plaintiff in view of the tweets and retweets carried out due to the press conference of the defendants, " the judge said.
The judge further said, "I deem it proper to pass an interim injunction directing defendants 1-3 (Congress leaders) to delete and remove the allegations made during the press conference from all social media platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter." They are also directed to remove the post, videos, tweets, retweets, morphed pictures of plaintiff and her daughter along with the allegations and stop their recirculation, the court said.
The matter is now listed for further hearing before the court and registrar on November 15 and August 18, respectively.
During the hearing, Irani's counsel submitted that she is a respected citizen of the country and the three Congress leaders with pre-planned conspiracy of defaming and maligning the reputation of the BJP leader organised the press conference on July 23 and made allegations without any substance.
"Not only an individual but the whole society suffers. It becomes worse when you use children to settle political scores. You comment on character. These are supposedly the responsible functionaries of a party and they are holding press conference for this purpose. Don't make statements against the plaintiff's daughter to settle your scores with her," senior advocate N K Kaul, representing Irani, contended.
Irani approached the court after the Congress leaders failed to respond to the legal notice sent to them by her.
The Congress on July 23 had demanded Irani's sacking, alleging her daughter was running an illegal bar in Goa, but the minister had claimed the "malicious" charge was made at the behest of Gandhi family due to her vocal stand in the National Herald linked money laundering case and vowed to fight back.&nbsp;

Due to this, the complainant's mother was not getting pension.

Union minister <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/politics/daughter-targeted-because-i-spoke-against-gandhis-smriti-irani-on-goa-bar-row-1658590907001" target="_blank">Smriti Irani</a> on Sunday sent a legal notice to Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and Pawan Khera, asking them to apologise for their "baseless and false" allegations against the BJP leader and her daughter.
Irani's action came a day after the Congress leaders alleged that her 18-year-old daughter Zoish Irani ran a bar illegally in Goa and also targeted the minister over this, demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi sack her from his Cabinet.
If they do not tender an unconditional and unequivocal apology and withdraw their allegations, Irani will initiate civil and criminal proceedings against them, the legal notice said.
The notice has also been sent to 'Mahila' Congress leader Netta D'Souza and the Congress party.
"The false allegations were intended to hurt the reputation of our client as a minister and a person in public life, and also to outrage her modesty and that of her daughter," the notice said.
The Congress leaders stooped to a new low, morally and ethically, by attacking Irani's young daughter who is in her first year at university and at the threshold of a new chapter of her life pursuing her professional aspirations, the notice sent by Irani said.

"These aspirations of our client's (Irani) daughter are sought to be cruelly marred, jeopardised and prejudiced by the addressees (Congress leaders) through their inhumane, insensitive and false narratives as collateral damage," it said.
"The insistence of addressees to invoke value systems of our client with a reference to her 'sanskar' is an effort to make our client and her young daughter social outcasts by proclaiming that by the act of 'running' a bar our client and her young daughter are women of disrepute," it said.
Zoish Irani has never applied for any licence for "running" any bar or for any business enterprise, it said, asserting that she has not been served with any show cause notice from the excise department in Goa as alleged by the Congress leaders.
"These allegations are sought to be sensationalised and magnified by a series of innuendos and suggestive statements which not only hurt our client and her daughter's reputation but are equally an attempt at outraging their modesty," it claimed.
These allegations have been made with the knowledge of their falsity or at least in careless disregard of the truth, it said.

The Congress on Saturday demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi sack Irani from the Union Cabinet, alleging that an "illegal bar" was being run in Goa by her daughter.
Noting that it is a "very serious issue", the Congress also shared a copy of the show cause notice given to the bar, and said the excise official who served it is reportedly being transferred under pressure from the authorities.
Hitting back, Irani said Khera flashed documents to say the bar was given a show-cause notice and asked if the papers had Zoish's name.
The BJP has been attacking the Gandhi family for their alleged role in the National Herald case.

The Enforcement Directorate has questioned both Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, drawing strong protests from the opposition party. The Congress has dismissed the allegations as vendetta and intimidatory tactics by the government.

The Pune police have registered a FIR against three BJP workers for allegedly assaulting an NCP woman member in an auditorium here during a face-off between the two sides at a book release event attended by Union minister Smriti Irani, an official said on Tuesday.
The incident had taken place on Monday when workers of the Congress and NCP, which share power with the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, staged protests against price rise outside a luxury hotel and the Bal Gandharva auditorium, where Irani attended events during her visit to Pune city.
"An offence was registered on late Monday night. We have booked three BJP workers under Indian Penal Code Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and other relevant sections," Deccan Gymkhana police station's senior inspector Murlidhar Karpe said.
As per the FIR, the woman NCP functionary and three other party members had gone to the auditorium to give a memorandum to Irani over the rising inflation and LPG price hike issue.
The NCP woman member in her police complaint later alleged that she and other party functionaries were assaulted and heckled by BJP workers.
Following the face-off, a video showed the police present at the venue escorting four NCP women members out of the auditorium.
