Singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan returned to India in the early hours of February 8 after winning the Best Global Music Album award at the 2024 Grammys in Los Angeles with tabla maestro Zakir Hussain's fusion band Shakti. He received a grand welcome at the airport with flowers and chocolates.
Shankar was overjoyed to find his loved ones at the airport with gifts. He hugged them warmly and posed for paparazzi, proudly sporting a sweatshirt bearing his band's name, while giving a shoutout to his bandmates.
Talking to media at the airport, Shankar Mahadevan said, &lsquo;Well, what can I say? This is a very, very special moment for me and all of my band members. For me, it's a dream come true. After touring for 25 years, here we got the Grammys.&rsquo;

After winning the coveted award, Shankar Mahadevan took to Instagram and shared his first photo with the award. He wrote, &lsquo;WE DID IT. I never imagined that a band from where I have learnt my music and my musical aesthetics would be the band with whom I would eventually perform and win a Grammy. This is the moment from which I can easily say that dreams do come true. Shakti was a dream which came true! thank you Almighty for making this happen! It's truly THIS MOMENT.&rsquo;
At the 2024 Grammys, Shakti secured the win for their album "This Moment," released the previous year. Competing against artists such as Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido, the band emerged victorious. Shakti comprises guitarist John McLaughlin, percussionist V Selvaganesh, and violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan.

In his acceptance speech, Shankar said, &lsquo;Thank you boys. Thank you God, family, friends and India. India, we are proud of you.&rsquo; He also had a special mention for his wife.
&lsquo;Last but not the least, I would like to dedicate this award to my wife whom every note of my music is dedicated to,&rsquo; he added.

Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain's Shakti band triumphed at the Grammys 2024, winning the Best Global Music Album award. Sharing the joy on Instagram, Shankar posted photos from the event along with a heartfelt thank-you message.
In the snapshots, the composer and vocalist are seen proudly posing with their trophy.&nbsp;
Shankar expressed his elation in the caption, stating, &lsquo;WE DID IT. I never imagined that a band from which I learned my music and musical aesthetics would be the same band with whom I would ultimately perform and win a Grammy. This moment reaffirms that dreams do come true. Shakti was a dream realized! Grateful to the Almighty for this opportunity! It's truly 'THIS MOMENT.'&rsquo;
After Shankar shared the post, fans flooded the comments section with congratulatory messages. One user wrote, &lsquo;Heartfelt congratulations to all of you. What a proud moment.&rsquo;&nbsp;

Besides Mahadevan and Hussain, Shakti comprises guitarist John McLaughlin, percussionist V Selvaganesh, and violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan. The band competed with other artists such as Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido at the ceremony. Their album 'This Moment' was released on June 30 last year.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Shankar talked about his historic win and said, &lsquo;Being at a place full of world-class international artistes and represent our country, make a mark as Indians and receive accolades made me so happy. I felt proud to represent India, musically.&rsquo;

Renowned singer Shankar Mahadevan received an honourary doctorate from Birmingham City University for his outstanding contribution to music and arts on June 23.
The ceremony was held at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. In an exclusive interview with ANI, Shankar Mahadevan expressed his gratitude and said this is a reminder to work even harder and create more beautiful songs.
Mahadevan shared his experience and said, &lsquo;This is truly special, I feel privileged, I feel honoured and this is just the result of body of work that I have done. I would like to thank Birmingham City University and all the people who decided to confer this legendary, honourable doctorate on me. All I can say is that this is an occasion which tells that I need to work even harder, come up with even more beautiful songs and spread the joy of music which is Indian classical music all around the world.&rsquo;&nbsp;
He added, &lsquo;When an honorary doctorate like this is conferred upon an artiste that you look up to then you&rsquo;ve a goal to achieve. The youngsters feel that their dreams are coming true in front of their eyes. They also start working hard and they would also like to achieve and would like to reach possibly where I reached today. I used to look up at maestros like John McLaughlin and Ustaad Zakir Hussain like they have come to confer this upon me. So it&rsquo;s nice to set a kind example for the next generation.&rsquo;&nbsp;
The ceremony was attended by esteemed personalities including table maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain and legendary guitarist John McLaughlin.
Following the formal ceremony, students performed some of Mahadevan's well-known compositions including 'Mitwa' from 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna'.
Mahadevan also mesmerised the audience as his performed his timeless classic 'Breathless'.
