It was another tepid session across Asia. With few local cues to consider, Japan&rsquo;s Nikkei and South Korea&rsquo;s Kospi each slipped almost one and a half percent. In China, the Shanghai Composite managed to end in the green, up half a percent, while Hong Kong&rsquo;s Hang Seng edged up one-tenth of a percent. Back home, the Sensex and the Nifty started the day in the green but failed to hold onto those gains. Selling intensified during the second half, leading both benchmark indices to close with losses of over one percent each. The Sensex ended the day at 80,220, while the Nifty slipped below 24,500, hitting its lowest level since the 14th of August. Of the fifty Nifty constituents, 47 ended the day in the red. ICICI Bank was the only stock that saw a significant uptick, rising by around seven-tenths of a percent. The midcap segment saw a sharper selloff, with that index down two and a half percent. In the IPO space, Hyundai Motor India made a disappointing debut on Dalal Street. Against its issue price of 1,960 rupees, the automaker listed at 1,931 &ndash; but that wasn&rsquo;t all. The auto giant's stock slipped seven percent during Tuesday&rsquo;s session, closing at 1,820 rupees apiece. At around 28,000 crore rupees, the HMIL IPO was the largest India has ever seen; however, the retail response to the issue was subdued. Meanwhile, brokerages have shared mixed views on the stock. Emkay Global has initiated coverage on Hyundai Motor India with a 'reduce' rating, while Macquarie has assigned an 'outperform' rating.
Big news from the M&amp;A space: the Gautam Adani-led Adani Group is further consolidating its position in India&rsquo;s cement industry. Ambuja Cements, owned by the Adani family, has signed a binding agreement to buy a 46.8 percent stake in Orient Cement for 8,100 crore rupees. Ambuja Cements outbid Aditya Birla Group&rsquo;s Ultratech, which was also in the race, to acquire the C K Birla group company. Recently, Ambuja Cements has also acquired Sanghi Cement and Penna Cement. With this latest acquisition, Ambuja is closer to achieving its targeted capacity of 100 million tonnes per annum in the current financial year. In the earnings space, food delivery major Zomato has reported its second-quarter numbers. The company&rsquo;s revenue from operations surged 68.5 percent year-on-year to almost 4,800 crore rupees, and its consolidated net profit jumped 389 percent to 176 crore rupees. The profit growth was driven by an increase in food delivery margins, and with Zomato&rsquo;s quick commerce arm remaining near break-even. However, the company&rsquo;s shares ended the day down by almost three and a half percent.

It was a mixed session in Asia, as investors parsed the details of the latest rate cuts announced by China. The Chinese central bank cut its one-year and five-year Loan Prime Rate (LPR) by 25 basis points to 3.1 percent and 3.6 percent, respectively.&nbsp; While the one-year LPR serves as the benchmark for most corporate and household loans, the five-year LPR acts as the reference for property mortgages. Following the announcement, China&rsquo;s Shanghai Composite ended marginally higher, while Hong Kong&rsquo;s Hang Seng slipped over one and a half percent. Japan&rsquo;s Nikkei finished the day nearly unchanged as investors focused on the general election at the end of the week.Back home, the Nifty ended the day down three-tenths of a percent, and the Sensex also closed lower as equities failed to hold onto opening gains. Of the fifty Nifty constituents, 37 declined, while 12 managed to advance. Tata Consumer was the biggest loser of the session, down more than seven percent amid mixed commentary from experts on its second-quarter results. On the other hand, Bajaj Auto was the star of the trade, with a four percent surge following bullish comments from the company&rsquo;s MD, Rajiv Bajaj. Speaking to CNBC-TV18, Rajiv Bajaj said he stands by his projection of ₹20,000 as the long-term target price for Bajaj Auto shares. Also in stock-specific action, shares of HDFC Bank surged over two-and-a-half percent to 1,725 rupees following better-than-expected second-quarter numbers. The bank&rsquo;s net interest income grew by ten percent, and net profit was up 5.3 percent year-on-year, exceeding street estimates. Most brokerages have given a thumbs up to the results, with analysts setting the price target for the next year between 1,900 and 2,150 rupees.&nbsp; In the IPO space, Hyundai India is set to list on the stock exchanges on Tuesday, the 22nd of October. The public issue, which at around 28,000 crore rupees is the largest in India&rsquo;s stock market history, saw a tepid response from retail investors. The Hyundai IPO was subscribed 2.37 times in total, with only fifty percent subscription for the retail investors' quota and just 60 percent for the non-institutional investors category. The bulk of the demand came from qualified institutional buyers, who bid for almost seven times their quota. A big headline from the entertainment industry: Pune-based billionaire Adar Poonawalla has acquired a fifty percent stake in Karan Johar&rsquo;s Dharma Productions and Dharmatic Entertainment. Poonawalla, who is the CEO of vaccine major Serum Institute, made this acquisition through Serene Productions for 1,000 crore rupees. After the deal, Karan Johar will retain a fifty percent stake in the company, which has produced legendary films like Dostana, Agneepath, and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The stock market hit fresh record highs on Monday with the Nifty crossing 23100 and the Sensex surging past 76,000 for the first time. However, by the end of the day, the indices shed their gains and closed marginally in the red. As per a Moneycontrol report quoting experts, multiple factors are responsible for the surge in the indices.
Global factors include strong global cues stemming from easing US consumer inflation expectations as well as a decline in crude prices, which is now well below the $80 per barrel mark that it hit on May 17th.

Equity benchmark indices extended their previous day's rally on Friday, with the Sensex climbing 1 per cent, amid buying in index major Reliance Industries, fresh foreign fund inflows and a largely positive trend in global markets.
The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 629.07 points or 1.02 per cent to settle at 62,501.69. During the day, it rallied 657.21 points or 1.06 per cent to 62,529.83.
The NSE Nifty climbed 178.20 points or 0.97 per cent to end at 18,499.35.
From the Sensex pack, Reliance Industries jumped 2.79 per cent. Sun Pharma, Hindustan Unilever, HCL Technologies, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, UltraTech Cement, Tata Steel and Titan were among the other major gainers.
Bharti Airtel, Power Grid and NTPC were the laggards.
In Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo and Shanghai ended in the green.
Equity markets in Europe were trading lower. The US market ended mostly with gains on Thursday.
The Sensex climbed 98.84 points or 0.16 per cent to settle at 61,872.62 on Thursday. The Nifty gained 35.75 points or 0.20 per cent to end at 18,321.15.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers on Thursday as they bought equities worth Rs 589.10 crore, according to exchange data.
Meanwhile, global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.24 per cent to USD 76.44 a barrel.&nbsp;

Equity benchmark indices pared their intra-day gains and ended lower on Thursday, pulled down by index majors ITC and State Bank of India after their fourth quarter earnings failed to cheer investors.
After trading in the green for most part of the day, the 30-share BSE Sensex declined 128.90 points or 0.21 per cent to settle at 61,431.74. During the day, it hit a high of 61,955.90 and a low of 61,349.34.
The NSE Nifty fell 51.80 points or 0.28 per cent to end at 18,129.95.
Among the Sensex firms, ITC, SBI, Titan, Power Grid, Larsen &amp; Toubro, Tata Motors, Hindustan Unilever and UltraTech Cement were the major laggards.
Shares of ITC fell 2 per cent even as the company reported a 22.66 per cent rise in consolidated net profit at Rs 5,225.02 crore in the fourth quarter ended March 2023.
SBI declined 1.77 per cent despite the country's largest bank reporting an 83 per cent jump in net profit at Rs 16,694.51 crore for the fourth quarter of 2022-23 fiscal on higher interest income and low provisioning.
Bajaj Finance, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank, Asian Paints, HCL Technologies, HDFC and HDFC Bank were among the biggest gainers.

Equity benchmark Sensex climbed over 460 points to reclaim the 61,000 mark while the Nifty closed above the 18k level on Friday, propelled by robust buying in index majors Reliance Industries and ITC amid fresh foreign fund inflows.
Rallying for the fifth straight session, the 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 463.06 points or 0.76 per cent to settle at 61,112.44. During the day, it rallied 560.08 points or 0.92 per cent to 61,209.46.
The broader NSE Nifty advanced 149.95 points or 0.84 per cent to finish at 18,065.
Wipro was the biggest gainer in the Sensex pack, rising 2.89 per cent, followed by Nestle, State Bank of India, Larsen &amp; Toubro, ITC, Tech Mahindra, Reliance Industries, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Bajaj Finance.
In contrast, Axis Bank, HCL Technologies, Titan, Hindustan Unilever, Bajaj Finserv and ICICI Bank were the major laggards, skidding up to 2.39 per cent.
In Asian markets, Seoul, Japan, Shanghai and Hong Kong ended in the green.
Equity markets in Europe were trading lower. The US markets ended with significant gains on Thursday.
The BSE benchmark surged 348.80 points or 0.58 per cent to settle at 60,649.38 on Thursday. The Nifty gained 101.45 points or 0.57 per cent to end at 17,915.05.
Meanwhile, global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.45 per cent to USD 78.72 per barrel.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were buyers on Thursday as they bought equities worth Rs 1,652.95 crore, according to exchange data.

Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty buckled under selling pressure for the second straight session to settle nearly 1 per cent lower on Friday as investors pared exposure to the metal, energy and realty stocks amid a bearish trend in Asian and European markets.
Besides, a depreciating rupee against the US dollar and fresh foreign fund outflows also hit investor sentiments, traders said.
In a volatile trade, the 30-share BSE Sensex declined 398.18 points or 0.69 per cent to finish at 57,527.10. During the day, it went lower by 502.3 points or 0.86 per cent to 57,422.98.
The broader NSE Nifty fell 131.85 points or 0.77 per cent to end at 16,945.05.
Bajaj Finserv was the biggest loser among the Sensex constituents, sliding 3.81 per cent, followed by Bajaj Finance, Tata Steel, Reliance Industries, HCL Tech, SBI, Larsen &amp; Toubro and Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Axis Bank and Titan.
On the other hand, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Power Grid, Asian Paints and Wipro were the gainers.
In Asia markets, stock exchanges in Seoul, Japan, Shanghai and Hong Kong ended lower.
European markets were also quoting in the red in the afternoon trade. The US markets ended higher on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the rupee declined 25 paise to close at 82.45 against the US dollar.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude dipped 1.73 per cent to USD 74.60 per barrel.
Foreign Portfolio Investors offloaded equities worth Rs 995.01 crore on Thursday after a day's breather, according to exchange data.&nbsp;

Benchmark Sensex declined by 360 points while the Nifty closed below the 17,000-level on Monday due to a sell-off in financials, IT and capital goods shares amid a global rout in equities on lingering worries over the banking crisis.
The 30-share BSE Sensex declined by 360.95 points or 0.62 per cent to close at 57,628.95 as 23 of its stocks ended in the red. The index tanked more than 900 points to touch a low of 57,084.91 before recovering some losses at the fag end.
The broader Nifty of the NSE plunged by 111.65 points or 0.65 per cent to close below the 17,000-level at 16,988.40. As many as 40 Nifty stocks declined while 10 advanced.
Analysts said investors fretted over the US banking crisis even as Federal Reserve and other central banks took efforts to ease a fast-growing banking crisis.
"The fear of contagion of the financial crisis has kept investors away from the equity markets as the global market faces numerous hurdles. Despite Swiss regulators' intervention to protect the global financial system, investor sentiment remained shaky," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services.
Among Sensex shares, Bajaj Finserv fell the most by 4.08 per cent. Bajaj Finance declined by 3.01 per cent, Tata Steel by 2.2 per cent, Wipro by 2.09 per cent, Tata Motors by 1.96 per cent, IndusInd Bank by 1.9 per cent, SBI by 1.75 per cent, Tech Mahindra by 1.66 per cent and HCL Tech by 1.2 per cent.
TCS, Infosys, Power Grid, Maruti, Reliance, HDFC twins, L&amp;T, M&amp;M, NTPC and Ultratech Cement were also among the losers.
Hindustan Unilever bucked the trend to emerge as the biggest Sensex gainer, rising by 2.45 per cent. ITC, Kotak Bank, Sun Pharma and Nestle also closed higher.

The domestic equity market on Thursday snapped the five-day losing streak as the benchmark Sensex recouped its lost ground and closed 78 points higher on fag-end value buying in banking, energy and financial stocks.
A positive opening in the European market helped the investor sentiments even as clouds hovered over the health of the global banking system amid Credit Suisse woes and bank failures in the US. Halting its five-day losing streak, the 30-share BSE benchmark rose 78.94 points or 0.14 per cent to close at 57,634.84 points, with 17 of its constituents ending in the green. During the session, it touched a high of 57,887.46 points and a low of 57,158.69 points.
The 50-share NSE Nifty advanced 13.45 points or 0.08 per cent to settle at 16,985.60 points. As many as Nifty 32 stocks closed in the green.
Equity benchmarks bounced back to end in the positive territory after trading lower for the most part of the volatile session.
Nestle India was the biggest gainer in the Sensex pack, rising 2.54 per cent, followed by Asian Paints, HUL, Titan, Sun Pharma, SBI, PowerGrid and Bajaj Finserv.
On the other hand, Tata Steel, IndusInd Bank, Bharti Airtel, Infosys, Wipro, HCL Tech and Reliance were among the losers, slipping up to 3.31 per cent.

Besides, persistent foreign capital drain from the domestic market and the sliding rupee kept the pressure on equities, traders said.
Falling for the fifth straight session, the 30-share BSE Sensex closed lower by 344.29 points or 0.59 per cent at 57,555.90. During the session, it touched a high of 58,473.63 and a low of 57,455.67.
The broader NSE Nifty declined 71.15 points or 0.42 per cent to end at 16,972.15, with 28 of its stocks ending with losses.
IndusInd Bank was the biggest loser in the Sensex pack, shedding nearly 2 per cent, followed by Bharti Airtel, Reliance Industries, HDFC twins, SBI, HUL, Tata Motors, Nestle India and Axis Bank.
On the other hand, Asian Paints, Tata Steel, Titan and L&amp;T were among the gainers, rising up to 3.03 per cent.

After gaining 375 points in the early trade, the BSE Sensex could not hold to gains and declined 897.28 points or 1.52 per cent to settle at 58,237.85 as 29 of its constituents declined while only one advanced. During the day, it hit a low of 58,094.55 and a high of 59,510.92.
The NSE Nifty fell 258.60 points or 1.49 per cent to end at 17,154.30, with 45 of its scrips ending in the red.
IndusInd Bank was the biggest loser in the Sensex pack, shedding 7.46 per cent, followed by SBI, Tata Motors, M&amp;M, Bajaj Finserv, Axis Bank and Infosys.
In contrast, Tech Mahindra was the only winner.
In the broader market, the BSE smallcap gauge dipped 2.08 per cent and the midcap index declined 1.82 per cent.
The US-based SVB Financials, which mainly funds startups, crashed 60 per cent in the US market last week, triggering concerns over the health of banks' bond portfolios and its possible rippling effects globally.

The Sensex jumped nearly 900 points and the Nifty rallied over 272 points on Friday, bouncing back from the previous day's fall, following a positive trend in global equities and fresh foreign fund inflows.
The BSE Sensex rallied 899.62 points or 1.53 per cent to end at 59,808.97 after starting the trade on a positive note. During the day, it jumped 1,057.69 points or 1.79 per cent to 59,967.04.
The NSE Nifty advanced 272.45 points or 1.57 per cent to settle at 17,594.35.
From the Sensex pack, State Bank of India, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Industries, ITC, Tata Steel, IndusInd Bank, HDFC Bank, Tata Motors, HDFC and Titan were the major gainers.
Tech Mahindra, UltraTech Cement, Nestle and Asian Paints were the laggards.
In Asian markets, Seoul, Japan, China and Hong Kong ended in the green.

Benchmark Sensex plunged by 927 points to close at a three-week low while the broader Nifty settled at a four-month low on Wednesday amid weak global trends as investors braced for the release of the Federal Open Market Committee minutes later in the day.
Falling for the fourth day in a row, the BSE Sensex tumbled 927.74 points or 1.53 per cent to settle at 59,744.98, the lowest closing level since February 1. During the day, it tanked 991.17 points or 1.63 per cent to 59,681.55.
The 50-issue NSE Nifty declined 272.40 points or 1.53 per cent to end at a four-month low of 17,554.30 with 47 of its constituents ending in the red.
From the Sensex pack, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Reliance Industries, Wipro, HDFC Bank, HDFC, ICICI Bank and Tata Steel were the major laggards.
ITC was the lone winner in the Sensex pack.
