A video allegedly showing former Congress MLA Asif Khan in Delhi's Okhla caning and abusing staff of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) for reportedly removing hoardings and posters put up by him has gone viral. 
The video of the incident, purportedly shows Khan beating four men with a stick and directing them to hold their ears while doing squats, surfaced on Friday. 
Khan told PTI he had noticed that for quite some time that hoardings put up by him in the area were swiftly removed while those of a local AAP MLA and municipal corporations remained untouched.
Reacting to the incident, police on Friday said they will be registering an FIR in the matter.

However, Khan said he had no knowledge that they were SDMC staff.
"I don't know who they were. I have also received no call or a message from the SDMC about the incident," he said.
A senior SDMC official who wished to remain anonymous said that the people being subjected to "disrespect" belong to the civic body.
The remunerative projects cell of the municipal corporation is responsible for removing unauthorised advertisement materials and encroachments.

Open air dining at South Delhi restaurants closer to reality!

Open-air dining at South Delhi restaurants may soon be a possibility after the South Delhi Municipal Corporation approved a proposal that permits el fresco dining in lawns and on rooftops.
The proposal now awaits a final approval from the SDMC house. The permission, however, will be granted with certain caveats.
As per the draft policy, only those restaurants with privately owned open areas or terraces will be allowed to have open air dining. Encroachment on public land and footpaths will be prohibited. Food, however, must be cooked in closed kitchens and not in open spaces. The open spaces should be used solely as a service area, the draft read.&nbsp;
SDMC&nbsp;has around 2,000 restaurants that fall under its jurisdiction but to enable open air dining, they must already have a Noc, health trade licence and structural safety certificate.
The move was welcomed by many, who said the pandemic has eaten away revenues. Open air dining may even reduce the risk of transmission of the virus causing Covid-19 and may enhance footfall.
