The Supreme Court on Wednesday took suo moto cognizance of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. Chief Justice-led apex court bench will hear the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case on Thursday. The court will take place at 11 am.
The violence in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri, that left eight people including four farmers dead left the country shaken and led to an uproar with opposition parties slamming the government for the alleged involvement of a union minister's son.
On Tuesday, Uttar Pradesh lawyers appealed to the Chief Justice seeking an investigation by the CBI under the supervision of the Supreme Court into the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.&nbsp; Lawyers asked Chief Justice NV Ramana to direct the Home Ministry to ensure the filing of a First Information Report and punishment for ministers involved in Sunday's incident.&nbsp;
Meanwhile, UP CM Adityanath&nbsp;briefed PM Modi&nbsp;on the Lakhimpur&nbsp;Kheri&nbsp;situation. MoS&nbsp;Ajay Mishra whose son is accused of running his car over protesters met Union Home Minister Amit&nbsp;Shah in Delhi on Wednesday.

In the latest hearing on a batch of pleas by 41 post-graduate doctors, Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati told SC bench headed by Justice D Y Chandrachud that the Centre won't be implementing new pattern in this year's NEET-Super Speciality exam.
The Centre on Wednesday told the SC that in the interest of candidates, it has decided to implement changes in the pattern from of NEET-SS from 2022 onwards.
This comes after SC had made sharp remarks and asked the govt. to put its "house in order" and take a call on reversing the changes made to this year's NEET-SS examination.
SC had also commented on Tuesday about how the medical profession and education have become a business and that's the tragedy of medical education in this country.
The batch of pleas challenged the last-minute changes made to the syllabus after the notification was issued on July 23 by the Centre.

Supreme Court said Facebook has to appear before Delhi panel in riots probe. The apex court added that Facebook can't be compelled to answer on issues of law and order, which are looked after by the central government.
&lsquo;Debates on platforms like Facebook have the potential to polarise the society and less informed individuals may not verify the information and take it as gospel of truth&rsquo; the court said during the hearing.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that this year the Rath Yatra could only be held at Odisha's Puri Jagannath Temple and not at other places in the state. The decision comes amid concerns that mass gatherings could spark a third wave of Covid infections.
The top court was hearing a batch of petitions challenging the Odisha government's decision to cancel the Rath Yatra except for the Puri Jagannath Temple edition. The state said it would be impossible to control crowds and ensure Covid-appropriate behaviour at multiple locations.
The central government had also wanted Rath Yatras to be held at places in the state. Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said this could be done without upsetting health protocols.
However, the apex court bench dismissed all the petitions with the Chief Justice saying the government has taken the right decision.

The Supreme Court on Monday expressed concern on being told that more than 1,000 cases have been filed invoking Section 66A of the IT Act despite it being struck down seven years ago. After the section was struck down, as many as 1307 cases were filed under it.
The apex court said it is shocked at the police still registering cases under Section 66A of Information Technology Act, a controversial law that allowed authorities to arrest individuals for posting "offensive" content online.
The court was hearing a plea by an NGO seeking directions to the centre to advise all police stations against registering FIRs under this law.

The apex court bench demanded to know why the petitioners, who sought a halt on construction, singled out Central Vista when construction activities for other similar projects were also progressing.
The Court asked whether the appellants had conducted any research on other similar construction going on in the national capital.
It further observed that the project activities were proceeding in compliance with all protocols and said no interference with the Delhi High Court judgment was warranted.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed all the states and union territories to implement 'one nation, one ration card scheme&rsquo; (ONORC ) for migrants till July 31.
The court asked the Centre to provide dry ration for free distribution among migrant workers till the COVID-19 situation continues.
The apex court has asked the states to continue community kitchens for migrant workers.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court also ordered the Centre and states to complete registration of all migrant workers, including those in unorganised sectors positively by July 31.
A slew of directions to&nbsp;ensure food security, cash transfers and other welfare measures for migrant workers were also given.

Government on Saturday drastically reduced its estimation of the number of Covid-19 vaccine doses that are projected to be available in India by December 31, 2021. The Centre told the Supreme Court that 135 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines are projected to be available for use between August and December. On May 13, the Union Health Ministry in a presentation stated that over 216 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines will be available between August and December, 2021 to vaccinate all adults by year-end. The difference between the two projected figures is a staggering 81 crore doses.
The government said that &lsquo;51.6 crore doses will be made available for administration by July 31, 2021 leaving a requirement of approximately 135 crore vaccine doses for complete vaccination to the eligible population&rsquo;.
