Since making his PSA debut in 2003, Ghosal has lifted 10 PSA titles, reaching 18 finals, while he won 281 of his 511 matches on the Tour.

Saurav Ghosal, the tenacious flag bearer of Indian squash for over two decades, on Monday announced his retirement from the professional circuit having etched his name in the annals of the sport's history with some remarkable achievements.
India's finest men's squash player, the 37-year-old Ghosal though would continue to represent the country at multi-discipline events.
Besides winning two gold medals in team events of Incheon and Hangzhou Asian Games, Ghosal has three Commonwealth Games medals and also bagged the yellow metal in the 2022 World Doubles Championships in mixed doubles in Glasgow.
"I started my journey on @psaworldtour 22 years ago. At the time, I never thought in my wildest dreams, I would play professional squash for so long. As I travelled across the world, playing on some of the biggest stages our wonderful sport offered, I thought it would never come to an end," Ghosal wrote in a post on his official Instagram handle.
"But, there's always an end point. I am overwhelmed with emotions as I write this message. This sport has been my passion, my livelihood, and my identity for so many years. So, with a heart filled with pride and a tinge of sadness, I announce my retirement from the PSA," he added.
The Kolkata-born Ghosal, who was a prominent part of the golden generation of Indian squash along with Dipika Pallikal Karthik and Joshna Chinappa, also remains the only man from the country to reach the world's top 10, achieving the career-high ranking in April 2019 and spending six months there.
Since making his PSA debut in 2003, Ghosal has lifted 10 PSA titles, reaching 18 finals, while he won 281 of his 511 matches on the Tour.
Ghosal also holds a record of 13 Indian Nationals title wins, with the last of those coming in 2020.
Ghosal, however, isn't completely done with the sport and hopes to represent India for some more years.
"Finally, I hope this is not me saying goodbye altogether from competitive squash. I would like to play for India a little while longer. Hopefully, there's some fight left in me, and I can achieve a bit more for my country. Till then, THANK YOU!" Ghosal thus raises hopes of him fulfilling his long-cherished dream of playing in the Olympics with squash making its debut at the 2028 Los Angeles edition. Ghosal will be 41 by then, but if he chooses to play doubles and can produce results at the Asian and Commonwealth Games in 2026, he might as well take part in the world's biggest sporting spectacle.
Ghosal said the game has not only given him an identity but also shaped him as a human being.
"These past 2 decades have shaped me as a person and I am eternally grateful for the opportunities I have had. I hope I have conducted myself with dignity and played the sport 'the right way'.
"Nothing would have been possible without the support of my dear grandparents, my father, my beloved wife, and the rest of my cherished family.
"They have moulded me into the person I am today. My journey would have been incomplete without the wisdom and mentorship of Malcolm Willstrop, Damon Brown, David Palmer, James Willstrop, Dr. Sheryl Calder, Gayatri Madkekar, Krushmi Chheda and the countless coaches who guided me along the way.
"Gratitude fills my soul as I acknowledge the Sports Ministry of India, SDAT &amp; SRFI, and Baseline for their steadfast backing throughout the years." Ghosal's final - and joint biggest - PSA title came at the Malaysian Open Squash Championships in November 2021, where he defeated Colombian top seed Miguel Rodriguez in the final.
"To all my fans, you have kept me going through the good and bad times. I can't thank you enough for the love you've shown me along the way. A big thank you to all the players I have had the privilege of sharing the court with.
"I will always cherish the respect I received from each and every one of you. You have been my family for so long, and I will miss you all!," he wrote.
His final appearance on the PSA Tour came at the 2024 Windy City Open presented by the Walter Family where he lost to USA's Timothy Brownell in the last 64.
He also teamed up with compatriot Dipika Pallikal Karthik to win a gold medal for India in the mixed event at the 2022 WSF World Doubles Squash Championships, while he also claimed gold at the Asian Individual Championships in Malaysia five years ago.
Under the tutelage of Major Maniam and Cyrus Poncha, Ghosal honed his skills in his early days in the sport, paving the way for a glorious career.
In 2004, he scripted history by becoming the first Indian to clinch the British Junior Open Under-19 Squash title. He has not looked back after that.

India's number one squash player Saurav Ghosal has called for the introduction of the sport in schools to "create a huge ecosystem" and the recruitment of experts from abroad to train the country's coaches.

Ghosal said that the level today is higher compared to when he started, and that India is very competitive on the world stage.

"Squash should be introduced in the schools, it's a great workout within a rather short span of time. Squash in schools would be great as the kids would be involved, the parents would be involved, and it would create a huge ecosystem for squash," Ghosal said on Wednesday.
The first player from the country to win a singles medal at the Commonwealth Games, 37-year-old Ghosal said that the level today is higher compared to when he started, and that India is very competitive on the world stage.
"I started squash more than 25 years ago, the level now is a lot higher and we are extremely competitive on the world stage. The next step is to conquer and dominate at the global level," Ghosal said during the merchandise unveiling ceremony of the upcoming Delhi Marathon.
"Some of the things that we need to look at is increasing the player base and also improving the quality of the players.
"On the higher performance side, we should bring in high-quality coaches (from abroad) so that Indian coaches can learn from them and we can make it sustainable," Ghosal said the people he played alongside for the last many years formed the golden generation of Indian squash and urged his compatriots to remain involved with the sport after retirement.
The veteran also expressed delight at squash being included in the Los Angeles Olympics.
Joshna Chinappa, one of the flagbearers of women's squash in India along with Dipika Pallikal, said that she is honoured to be chosen for the Padma Shri.
"I feel honoured to be chosen for the Padma Shri by the central government. I think it has come at the right time and I am very happy that my efforts have been recognised," she said.
Chinappa felt that public adulation and government recognition for sports in the country have increased.
"There have been several players -- wrestlers, badminton players and the athletes... the way they have become world champions, medallists at the Olympics, I think there is a lot of recognition for athletes from other sports (besides cricket)." She said that squash has been "a big source" of medals for India in the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games in the last 15 years and the sport has a bright future.
Chinappa said that players like Ghosal and Pallikal have laid a very good foundation for squash in India.

There was disappointment for India&rsquo;s top squash player Saurav Ghosal as he lost to Malaysia&rsquo;s Eain Yow 11-9, 9-11, 5-11, 7-11 in the final of the men's singles event.
Ghosal, who did not drop a single game at the Asiad till the final, started the match trailing the Malaysian 1-6 in the first game, before he went on to win it 11-9.
But the Malaysian turned the table in the second game winning it 11-9, and it seemed to have affected the concentration of Ghosal.
In the third and fourth games, Ghosal hardly produced any fight and his backhand completely deserted him, with the Indian making a slew of errors. He also found himself out of position several times in these two games and lost points through obstruction.&nbsp;
But even as Ghosal signed off with silver, it shouldn't take the sheen away from India&rsquo;s brilliant outing in the squash competition in Hangzhou, where they bettered the country&rsquo;s effort in the Incheon Games 2014. India had won a historic gold in the men's team event nine years ago, with two silver and a bronze to boot with.
However, in the ongoing Games, India have won two gold, a silver and a bronze.

Saurav Ghosal thrashed Henry Leung 3-0 (11-2, 11-1, 11-6) and stormed into men's singles final at Asian Games 2023 on Wednesday.

Hong Kong's Henry Leung was no match for Indian squash veteran Saurav Ghosal, who registered a 3-0 (11-2, 11-1, 11-6) victory to storm into the men's singles final at Asian Games 2023 on Wednesday.
It will be Ghosal's second Asian Games final, winning which will make him the first Indian ever to clinch gold in the men's singles event at the Asiad.

It was also India’s 10th Gold medal in Hangzhou and their second on day 7 of the Asian Games. Also, it was only India's second-ever Gold medal in squash at the Asian Games, with the first coming at the 2014 Asian Games.

A historic achievement for the Indian men&rsquo;s squash team! The trio of Saurav Ghosal, Abhay Singh and Mahesh Mangaonkar clinched Gold after beating Pakistan 2-1 in a thriller at the Asian Games 2023.
It was a victory that will be remembered for a long time to come, especially since Abhay Singh saved two match points before he went on to clinch the tie and the gold medal for India in stunning fashion.
Things actually didn&rsquo;t go to plan for India in the first match of the tie, where Mahesh Mangaonkar, who lost a fierce battle in the first game, didn&rsquo;t really challenge Pakistan&rsquo;s Nasir Iqbal in the next two, losing 0-3.
Veteran Saurav Ghoshal then produced the goods yet again for India. His one-sided 3-0 victory, which saw Pakistan&rsquo;s Muhammad Asim Khan take just 9 points across 3 games, levelled the tie at 1-1.
The third match between Abhay Singh and Noor Zaman went right down to the wire, into the fifth game. With the score at 8-8, it was anybody&rsquo;s game and when Noor Zaman took the next 2 points, it all seemed like a formality. But not for Abhay Singh, who first saved the 2 match points, before winning the next two to clinch a historic gold for Team India.
