Producer Sandeep Singh has shelved his upcoming film based on Indian ruler Tipu Sultan.
He took this decision after he and his family received threats.
Taking to Twitter, Sandeep apologised for unintentionally hurting religious sentiments and requested his fellow brothers and sisters to refrain from threatening and abusing his family, friends, and him.
He wrote, 'The film on Hazrat Tipu Sultan will not be made. I kindly request my fellow brothers and sister to refrain from threatening or abusing my family, friends and me. I sincerely apologise if I have unintentionally hurt anyone's religious sentiments. It was never my intention to do so, as I firmly believe in respecting all beliefs. As Indians, let us forever unite and always give respect to one another!'
Sandeep had announced film Tipu Sultan in May. In his statement, he said, 'This is the cinema I personally believe in. My films stand for truth... I was brainwashed into believing him to be a braveheart as shown in our history textbooks. But nobody knows his malevolent side. I want to expose his dark side for the future generation.'
'Tipu Sultan' was supposed to be co-produced by Sandeep, Eros International, and Rashmi Sharma Films. It was scheduled to be released in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam.
Sandeep Singh has previously produced the biopic of PM Narendra Modi (2019). He is also backing more biographical projects, including those of Veer Savarkar, Bal Thackeray, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

A person does not become guilty just because an allegation is levelled against him, Haryana Chief Minister M L Khattar said on Tuesday amid Opposition demand to sack minister Sandeep Singh, who was booked for allegedly sexually harassing a woman coach.
He said the police are investigating the matter and further action will be taken once the inquiry report comes.
Singh gave up his Sports portfolio on Sunday, saying he has taken the step on moral grounds, and claimed that the charges against him are baseless.
The former India hockey captain had said he has handed over the charge of the sports department to CM Khattar. However, he had not resigned from the BJP-led Haryana ministry.
"A woman sportsperson has levelled an absurd allegation against the sports minister. But just levelling an allegation does not make a person guilty. The police further probes the allegations.
"The Chandigarh police is investigating the matter and the Haryana Police too are gathering its report. We will take further action once the (inquiry) report comes," Khattar said in Rajasthan's Sirohi where he had gone to attend an event of the Brahma Kumaris.
"Being a minister in the sports department, an issue might have been raised that an impartial inquiry is not taking place. Therefore, he will not remain a sports minister, he has been removed from there so that a proper and fair inquiry takes place," the chief minister said.
The Chandigarh police on Saturday registered an FIR against the 36-year-old BJP leader on charges of sexual harassment and wrongful confinement.
The Haryana Director General of Police set up a committee after Singh lodged a complaint against the coach, claiming she had tarnished his image.
A 'khap panchayat' on Monday threatened to launch a big agitation if Singh is not sacked.

The Chandigarh police has registered a sexual harassment and criminal intimidation case, it said.

Hours after sexual harassment allegations were levelled against him, Haryana Sports Minister Sandeep Singh on Sunday said that he has handed over the responsibility of the Sports department to Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar until the report of the investigation is out.

Earlier in the day, the Chandigarh police registered a sexual harassment and criminal intimidation case against Singh based on a complaint by a female coach.&nbsp;
Demanding security, the woman reportedly held a press conference at the office of the opposition party Indian National Lok Dal (INLD). She shared details of the complaint at the presser.

Call records show that a total of 104 calls -- 62 outgoing and 42 incoming -- were made between the two phone numbers, reports added quoting police. According to the police, the call records show that the victim and the main accused were in touch.
