There seems to be no end to Sandeep Lamichhane's troubles as despite being cleared of rape charges recently, the Neapl cricketer claimed that he was denied the US visa. He is now likely to miss the T20 World Cup in June.
Lamichhane tweeted on Wednesday, saying that the US Embassy in Nepal has denied him the visa for the T20 World Cup happening in USA and the Caribbean. 'Unfortunate. I am sorry to all the well-wishers of Nepal Cricket,' he wrote.
Lamichhane also pointed out an incident back in 2019 when he was denied a visa for CPL. "Being a National Cricket Player representing my country in the various leagues since 2016 around the world, I got big surprise to see my visa got rejected," he had then tweeted.
An appeal court in Nepal had recently cleared the country's most successful cricketer of rape charges.
"He has been set free by the law, and we are happy for him. He was sentenced to jail by the lower courts, but today the high court set him free. We have removed the suspension as well, and we have time until the 25th to include him in the World Cup squad," Nepal board president Bahdur said.
"I will talk to the selection committee and will also write to the ICC. After taking permission from the technical committee, we will add him to the squad. I am trying my best; let's hope for the best," it added.
The 23-year-old all-rounder, who had his conviction quashed, had previously been sentenced to 8 years in prison for sexual assault after a lower court found him guilty of raping an 18-year-old. Lamichhane was also suspended by the country's cricket body after that.
However, Lamichhane claimed innocence before his arrest and called the allegations a "conspiracy".
Lamichhane has scalped over 100 wickets in more than 103 white-ball matches for Nepal.
He has also had a brief stint in the Indian Premier League with the Delhi Capitals between 2018-20, bagging 13 wickets in nine fixtures.

In a rape case, a Nepalese court sentenced star cricket player Sandeep Lamichhane to eight years in prison on Wednesday, according to news agency ANI. The Shishir Raj Dhakal bench delivered the decision. A court found Lamichhane, the former captain of Nepal's national cricket team, guilty of rape.
In addition, the bench fined the cricketer Rs300,000 and mandated that he provide the victim Rs200,000 in compensation, according to Chandra Prasad Panthi, the court's information officer.
On December 29, the bench convicted the former captain of the national cricket team after concluding that he had raped Gushala-26, a name given to the victim, in a Tilganga-based hotel on August 21, 2022. A hearing was scheduled for Wednesday to determine the sentence.
The verdict came 15 months after the case was lodged on September 6, 2022, when the victim filed a rape case against the cricketer.
The court also ruled that the victim girl Gaushala 26 had reached 18 years of age. However, even though the victim was an adult, the court found Lamichhane guilty, stating that rape has been proven.

The Kathmandu District Court on Friday convicted the former Nepal captain and star cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane of rape.
In January, Nepal court released Lamichhane who was arrested after a 18-year-old girl alleged that he raped her in a hotel room in Kathmandu in August last year.
Lamichhane, 23, is Nepal&rsquo;s most high-profile cricketer, and the first cricketer from Nepal to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) when he debuted for the Delhi Capitals franchise in 2018.
A bench of Judge Shishir Raj Dhakal concluded the week-long hearing on Friday and added the girl was not a minor at the time of the rape in August 2022.&nbsp;
The report said the next hearing will determine the jail term for the senior national team member.
Lamichhne is currently out on bail. On January 12, the Patan High Court ordered the release of the cricketer. Responding to a review petition filed by Lamichhane, a joint bench of judges Dhruva Raj Nanda and Ramesh Dahal ordered Lamichhane's release on a bail bond of Rs 2 million with conditions.
On November 4, 2022, the Kathmandu District Court passed the order to send Lamichhane to the Sundhara-based central jail after a detention hearing. Lamichhane had moved the high court challenging the order.
The Kathmandu District Attorney&rsquo;s Office filed a case against Lamichhane accusing him of raping the girl on August 21.
The teenager had filed a case against the cricketer on September 6 at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Gaushala.
Nepal Police arrested him on October 6 at Tribhuvan International Airport on his return from Trinidad &amp; Tobago where he played in the Caribbean Premier League.
Through the chargesheet, the district attorney had demanded compensation from Lamichhane for the victim&rsquo;s alleged physical and mental torture. After the charge sheet was filed, Lamichhane&rsquo;s bank account and property were frozen.
A wily leg-spinner, armed with a vicious googly, he was a much sought-after cricketer in other big-ticket T20 leagues around the world, including the Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the CPL.
