The RBI on 19th May had announced that the Rs 2,000 note would be withdrawn from the economy and has given time to either deposit or exchange it from any banks by 30th September 2023

The State Bank of India has received Rs 14,000 crore in deposit and has exchanged Rs 3,000 crore, a week after RBI announced withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes.
&ldquo;Around ₹14,000 crore worth of ₹2,000 currency notes have come into the accounts as deposits, while notes worth ₹3,000 crore were exchanged through the branch network. Generally, we are about 20% of the market&rdquo;, said SBI's chairman Dinesh Khara.&nbsp;
He also mentioned that people are more calm as the RBI had assured that the Rs 2,000 note would remain as a legal tendor and that the RBI has given a fairly wide window to exchange the notes.

Rs 2000 notes withdrawn: two held with Rs 6 lakh allegedly belonging to naxal commander

Two people were arrested in Chhattisgarh's in Bijapur with Rs 2000 notes worth Rs 6 lakh allegedly belonging to a Naxal commander, a police official said on Friday.

They deposited Rs 2 lakh across 4 banks and were caught while they were going to deposit the remaining 6 lakhs.&nbsp;

Two people were arrested in Chhattisgarh's in Bijapur with Rs 2000 notes worth Rs 6 lakh allegedly belonging to a Naxal commander, a police official said on Friday.
The police said the duo were nabbed while fleeing from the police check post. &nbsp;Three bundles of Rs 2000 notes, each totalling Rs 2 lakh, 11 passbooks of different banks and naxal pamphlets were seized from them.&nbsp;
Gajendra Madvi and Laxman Kunjam had been given Rs 8 lakh in Rs 2000 notes to deposit in various banks, according to police. A sum of Rs 50,000 was deposited in Punjab National Bank and Rs 48,000 in Union Bank into accounts held by Kunjam, the police said adding that a sum of Rs 38,000 was deposited in SBI and Rs 50,000 in Central Bank. Both were while they were on their way to deposit the remaining Rs 6 lakh
The Reserve Bank of India had recently announced the withdrawal of Rs 2000 notes from circulation and had asked people to deposit them in banks or get them exchanged by September 30.
