Russian cosmonaut Valery Polyakov, the man who held the record for longest flight in space died aged 80 on September 19. Polyakov's death was announced by the Russian space agency Roscosmos in a Telegram statement using his honorary titles, 'The Roscosmos State Corporation regrets to announce the death of the Hero of the Soviet Union, Hero of Russia, USSR pilot-cosmonaut, holder of the world record for the longest flight into space (437 days) Valery Polyakov.' 
The agency did not reveal his cause of death. 
The statement typed in Russian expressed condolences to the legendary cosmonaut's family and friends. It further highlighted his achievements in space research and travel. 
'His research helped to prove that the human body could handle flights well beyond Earth's orbit, into deep space,' it said. 
Polyakov spent a record 438 days in space orbiting the Earth from January 1994 to March 1995 on the Mir space station. Polyakov's flight in space is the longest till date. He lived and worked on the space station for 14 months, reportedly orbiting Earth 7,000 times as per a BBC report. 
Polyakov later revealed that his stay in space was equivalent to travelling to Mars and back. His experiments on the space station also pertained to understanding how well could humans maintain their bodily functions on a trip to Mars. 
The Mir Space station was deployed in 1986 during the Cold War, states a BBC report, and was used with the co-operation of the then Soviet Union and the USA. 
Till it was retired in 2001, the satellite did key work in understanding the capability of humans to live and work in space.

Russia will opt out of the International Space Station after 2024 and focus on building its own orbiting outpost, the country's newly appointed space chief said Tuesday.

The announcement reaffirmed previous declarations by Russian space officials about Moscow's intention to leave the space outpost after 2024.&nbsp;

Russia will opt out of the International Space Station after 2024 and focus on building its own orbiting outpost, the country's newly appointed space chief said Tuesday.
Yuri Borisov, who was appointed earlier this month to lead the state-controlled space corporation Roscosmos, said during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin that Russia will fulfill its obligations to other partners at the International Space Station before it leaves the project.
&ldquo;The decision to leave the station after 2024 has been made,&rdquo; Borisov said.
Borisov's statement reaffirmed previous declarations by Russian space officials about Moscow's intention to leave the space outpost after 2024.

It comes amid soaring tensions between Russia and the West over the Kremlin's military action in Ukraine.
Despite the rift, NASA and Roscosmos made a deal earlier this month for astronauts to continue riding Russian rockets and for Russian cosmonauts to catch lifts to the International Space Station with SpaceX beginning this fall.
The agreement ensures that the space station will always have at least one American and one Russian on board to keep both sides of the orbiting outpost running smoothly, according to NASA and Russian officials. The swap had long been in the works and was finalised despite frictions over Ukraine in a sign of continuing Russia-U.S. cooperation in space.

A three-person crew reached the International Space Station on Wednesday, the Russian space agency said, after a journey of just over three hours that was the fastest ever for a manned craft to the orbital lab.
Roscosmos confirmed the successful docking of the Soyuz spacecraft in a tweet. The journey "took a record short three hours and three minutes," Russian news wire RIA Novosti added.
For the first time, the space agency tried a two-orbit, three-hour approach to the orbiting outpost. Previously it took twice as long for the crews to reach the station.

'ISRO to launch its Venus mission in 2025', France to take part

PTI,&nbsp;New Delhi, Sep 30 (PTI) ISRO is scheduled to launch its Venus mission in 2025 and France will participate in it, French space agency CNES said on Wednesday.
The VIRAL (Venus Infrared Atmospheric Gases Linker) instrument co-developed with the Russian federal space agency Roscosmos and the LATMOS atmospheres, environments and space observations laboratory attached to the French national scientific research centre CNRS has been selected by the ISRO after a request for proposals, it said in a statement.
ISRO chairman K Sivan and CNES president Jean-Yves Le Gall held talks and reviewed the areas driving cooperation between France and India in space.
"In the domain of space exploration, France will be taking part in ISRO's mission to Venus, scheduled to launch in 2025. CNES will coordinate and prepare the French contribution, the first time a French payload will be flown on an Indian exploration mission," CNES said in a statement.
However, there was no comment from ISRO.
After the Mars Orbiter Mission (Mangalyaan) and Moon missions Chandrayaan-1 and 2, ISRO has set its eyes on Venus for carrying out its inter-planetary mission.
France and India share a robust collaboration in arena of the space. It is one of the three nations with whom India collaborates in the strategic sectors of nuclear, space and defence -- the other two being the US and Russia.
In March 2018, the two countries also issued a 'Joint Vision for Space Cooperation'.
India and France are also working on ISRO's human space mission Gaganyaan project, which aims to send three Indians to space by 2022. Since September 2018, CNES and ISRO have set up a working group focused on cooperation in the field of human spaceflight, the French agency said.
"The two nations are pooling their expertise, notably in the domains of space medicine, astronaut health monitoring and life support. Initial exchanges have concentrated on training for India's flight physicians and technical teams and the supply of CNES flight systems," it added.&nbsp;
