As Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani slipped out of the list of top 10 richest people in the world, the tycoon has lost the spot of the richest Indian in the world to Mukesh Ambani, the Reliance Industries Chairman, according to the Forbes Real-time billionaire list for 2023.
Mukesh Ambani has overtaken the Adani Group chairman to become the richest Indian in the world with a net worth of USD 84.3 billion.

Ambani overtook Adani after the Reliance Industries Chairman's assets went up 0.19 per cent with an increase of wealth by USD 164 million while Gautam Adani's assets went down by 4.62 per cent with the industrialist's wealth pegged at USD 84.1 billion according to the real-time tracker of Forbes of 5 pm EST on Tuesday.
Adani who figured among the top three billionaires in the world has dropped in the ranking to number 10 just below Mukesh Ambani. At the top of the list is French luxury fashion giant's LMVH's Bernard Arnault and family. In December 2022, Louis Vuitton's founder and CEO Bernard Arnault overtook Elon Musk as the world's richest person.

According to a report, the richest one per cent in India now own more than 40 per cent of the country's total wealth, while the bottom half of the population together share just 3 per cent of wealth.
Releasing the India supplement of its annual inequality report on the first day of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, rights group Oxfam International said "Taxing the top 100 Indian billionaires at 2.5 per cent, or taxing the top 10 Indian billionaires at 5 per cent would nearly cover the entire amount required to bring the children back into school,".&nbsp;
"A one-off tax on unrealized gains from 2017&ndash;2021 on just one billionaire, Gautam Adani, could have raised Rs 1.79 lakh crore, enough to employ more than five million Indian primary school teachers for a year," it added.
Oxfam India urged the Union finance minister to introduce one-off solidarity wealth taxes and windfall taxes to end crisis profiteering. It also demanded a permanent increase in taxes on the richest 1 per cent and especially raise taxes on capital gains, which are subject to lower tax rates than other forms of income.
