"It&rsquo;s time for a new generation of leadership &ndash; to rediscover fiscal responsibility, secure our border, and strengthen our country, our pride and our purpose. Some people look at America and see vulnerability. The socialist left sees an opportunity to rewrite history,&rdquo; she said.
Identifying herself as proud daughter of Indian immigrants, Haley talks about growing up in Bamberg, South Carolina and how it shaped her belief in a strong and proud America.
&ldquo;We turned away from fear toward God and the values that still make our country the freest and greatest in the world. We must turn in that direction again,&rdquo; she said.
Casting herself as a younger, fresher alternative to Trump, Haley had been hinting at a White House bid for weeks.

Indian-American Republican and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy is planning to announce his 2024 presidential bid, joining Nikki Haley who is set to launch her campaign on Wednesday.
Ramaswamy, 37, who is a millionaire and has been dubbed by the New Yorker magazine as the &ldquo;CEO of Anti-Woke Inc.&rdquo;, has, for the time being, embarked on test runs and fact-finding missions in the US State of Iowa where he has been addressing multiple events, according to a media report.
Ramaswamy insisted his trip to Iowa and other prep work he is doing for a potential run are serious, the Politico reported on Monday, adding that he said: "this is not a play for attention." He is exploring a run for president, testing, among other things, whether his warnings about the dangers of 'wokeism' and socially-responsible investing has political currency with Republican politicians, business leaders and farmers, the report said.
"Ramaswamy doesn&rsquo;t necessarily want to run on his businessman track record. Instead he is planning to launch an ideas-based campaign focused on revitalising the American spirit and bringing back a culture of merit into society," it said.
The son of Indian immigrants - his father a General Electric engineer and his mother a geriatric psychiatrist &mdash; Ramaswamy was born in Cincinnati. He attended Harvard and Yale universities and is worth reportedly in excess of USD 500 million, enough to seed his campaign through the key early states.
He made his name first by becoming a successful biotech entrepreneur and developing medicines, including five drugs that became FDA-approved.

It doesn't prevent crime. We know what does prevent crime, which is going after felons and fugitives, and those with serious mental illness."
A few gun control legislations are currently being considered in the US Congress.
One of the bills, called the Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2021, has been passed by the House of Representatives. It was placed on the Senate's legislative calendar after the Texas incident. It aims to close the "Charleston loophole" which allows some licensed gun sales to conclude without a background check.
Another bill, called the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021, has also been passed by the House. The bill aims to expand background checks for all firearm sales or transfers. It has support from many legislators belonging to both Republican and Democratic camps.
But this is not enough to get it passed. When gun control laws reach the US Senate, they are come under threat from the filibuster.
The filibuster is a rule in the Senate which allows any member to block voting on a bill, simply by not letting the debate on it end. This can involve hours of non-stop speaking, sometimes through the night, to force the other side to withdraw or delay a decision on the bill. To overcome a filibuster and initiate voting, Senators pushing gun control laws would need 60 votes. And this means getting sizeable Republican support, which appears next to impossible.
So, why are Republicans against stricter gun laws, even if it means tragedies like the Texas one? One of the reasons, as President Biden suggested, could be gun lobbies, which do not want firearm sales to go down because of strict laws.
A more fundamental reason could be voter preferences. In a 2020 survey by Pew, 46% people said that the Republican party reflected their views on gun policy, while 42% said that the Democratic party reflected it better. In a 2021 survey by Gallup, 50% people were either satisfied with existing gun laws, or wanted looser laws. 41% were dissatisfied and wanted stricter gun laws.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott reportedly ordered "enhanced safety inspections" of commercial trucks at border ports. These were aimed at curtailing the "flow of drugs, human traffickers, illegal immigrants, weapons, and other contraband" into Texas, as per the Governor's office. Illegal immigration from America's southern neighbours has been one of the major issues traditionally raised by the Republican party, to which Abbott belongs.
Mexico reportedly claimed that the new rules are hurting trade with the US, with cross-border traffic falling to a third of normal levels. 
Meanwhile, Governor Abbott tweeted images of the Texas National Guard conducting "mass migration drills in preparation for an influx of illegal immigrants crossing the southern border." Abbot said that this was after his directive to "bolster state's border security efforts in the wake of the Biden Administration revoking Title 42."
