Mumbai Police Tuesday named Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami as an accused in the alleged Television Ratings Point (TRP) scam case. This is the third chargesheet filed in the case since investigations began nine months ago.
In a 1,912-page supplementary chargesheet submitted by the Mumbai Crime Branch in the Esplanade Court, police named seven persons, including Goswami and Republic TV CFO Shiva Subramaniam.
An FIR was registered last October and two chargesheets were filed in November and then in January, against 15 people.
This is the first time Goswami has been named as accused. In the first chargesheet and a subsequent supplementary chargesheet, police had named &ldquo;Republic owners&rdquo; as wanted accused.

Curtailing the central probe agency&rsquo;s powers to probe cases in the state, the Maharashtra government on Wednesday withdrew the 'general consent' granted to the Central Bureau of Investigation. The probe agency will now have to approach the Uddhav government for permission to initiate the investigation on a case by case basis. The development comes a after the CBI registered an FIR in the TRP &lsquo;scam&rsquo; case based on a reference from the Uttar Pradesh Police. The case, which was earlier registered at Hazratganj police station in Lucknow on a complaint of an advertising company promoter, was handed over to the CBI by the UP government. On October 8, the Mumbai police had claimed it had busted a 'racket' of 'fraudulent' manipulation of Television Rating Points involving three channels including Arnab Goswami&rsquo;s Republic TV.

Mumbai, PTI: Mumbai Police on Tuesday issued a show-cause notice to Republic TV's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami over his alleged communal comments during his coverage of the Palghar lynching case and the Bandra migrants incident in April this year. The notice has been sent under section 108 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), asking Mr Goswami to show reasons as to why a bond of good behaviour should not be taken from him, a police official said.
He has been asked to appear before the Special Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Worli Division on Friday at 4 pm, the official added.
On April 21, Arnab Goswami conducted a debate on his show "Puchhta Hain Bharat" on Republic Bharat about the attack on two monks and their driver in Maharashtra's Palghar.
The show-cause notice said during the debate (in Hindi), Mr Goswami asked whether it was a crime to be Hindu and wear saffron clothes and whether people would have remained silent had the victims not been Hindus.
A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for "giving provocation to cause riot" and "promoting enmity between different groups on the basis of religion" and other sections has been registered against Mr Goswami following the program, it added.
His comments could create communal disharmony and hatred between Hindus and Muslims, and the show evoked strong reactions on YouTube, the notice said.
Only because of the coronavirus pandemic there was no violence but the comments posed a threat to communal integrity and law and order, so as a preventive action the police had now started the process of taking an undertaking for good behaviour from Arnab Goswami, the official said.
A bond of ₹ 10 lakh for the duration of one year with one guarantor "who is well-known in society and who can control his behaviour" will be taken from Mr Goswami, he added.

A defamation&nbsp;suit has been filed before Delhi High Court by leading Bollywood filmmakers against irresponsible reporting by certain media houses.
Production companies of Karan Johar, Yash Raj, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan are a part of the case by four film industry associations and 34 producers.
The suit has been filed against TV news channels and their editors and owners.&nbsp;
The case has been filed to refrain these channels and journalists from making irresponsible, derogatory and defamatory remarks against Bollywood and its members.
The suit also asks them to constrain from conducting media trials of Bollywood personalities and interfering with the right to privacy of people in the industry.

&nbsp;Leading Bollywood producers Monday approached the Delhi High Court seeking to restrain Republic TV and Times Now from making or publishing allegedly &ldquo;irresponsible, derogatory and defamatory remarks&rsquo; against film industry and conducting media trials against its members on various issues.
The lawsuit by four Bollywood industry associations and thirty four leading producers have also sought to restrain them from interfering with the right to privacy of persons associated with the industry.
It has sought direction to Republic TV, its editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami and reporter Pradeep Bhandari, Times Now, its editor-in-chief Rahul Shivshankar and group editor Navika Kumar, and unknown defendants as well as social media platforms to refrain from making or publishing allegedly irresponsible, derogatory and defamatory remarks against Bollywood.
The suit filed through DSK Legal firm said, &ldquo;This comes in the wake of these channels using highly derogatory words and expressions for Bollywood such as &lsquo;dirt&rsquo;, &lsquo;filth&rsquo;, &lsquo;scum&rsquo;, &lsquo;druggies&rsquo; and expressions such as &lsquo;it is Bollywood where the dirt needs to be cleaned&rsquo;, &lsquo;all the perfumes of Arabia cannot take away the stench and the stink of this filth and scum of the underbelly of Bollywood&rsquo;, &lsquo;This is the dirtiest industry in the country&rsquo;, and &lsquo;cocaine and LSD drenched Bollywood&rsquo;.&rdquo;&nbsp;
