A video of the purported incident also went viral in which onlookers could be seen questioning the officials for not rising while the anthem was being sung. The officials had reportedly replied that the Madras High Court had said there was no need to do so.
A day after the incident, a Madras High Court advocate has filed a complaint against the officials for “disrespecting the anthem” on Thursday.
According to advocate G Rajesh, who filed an online complaint to the Greater Chennai Police, the officials misinterpreted the judgment of the High Court and the order issued by the state government.

In view of the 73rd Republic Day celebrations, Delhi has been brought under a heavy security cover as the city police has intensified patrolling and sealed the borders of the national capital in coordination with its counterparts from the neighbouring states to thwart any untoward incident amid a terror alert by intelligence agencies.
Over 27,000 police personnel have been deployed on Republic Day security duties in Delhi and anti-terror measures intensified, officials said.
According to the officials, the police personnel deployed include deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners, inspectors and sub-inspectors. Armed Police Force personnel and commandos, officers and jawans of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) have also been deployed.
CCTVs fitted with a facial recognition software and anti-drone equipment have also been installed, police said.
All major border points of Delhi, including Tikri, Singhu and Ghazipur, have been sealed to ensure incident-free and smooth Republic Day celebrations unlike last year. Extra pickets have been deployed and patrolling has been intensified at the border points, the officials said.

‘Abide with Me’, the sombre hymn that marks the end of the Beating Retreat ceremony will not be heard at Vijay Chowk this year. ‘Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon’ has replaced the hymn that has been part of the ceremony since 1950.

The Centre's move ahead of the Republic Day has come in for a sharp criticism from its political rivals, a section of retired veterans and several civil society members.
Leading the charge against the move to put out the flame that has burnt non-stop for 50 years, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said "some people cannot understand patriotism and sacrifice".
Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said she is "sad and anguished" and asked why both flames cannot remain.
Amid criticism, the government has clarified that the Amar Jawan Jyoti flame is not being extinguished, but is being merged with the one at the War Memorial nearby. The government also said that "a lot of misinformation" is being circulated on the issue.

Around September every year the govt invites all the states, the Union Territories, Central Government departments, and a few constitutional authorities to participate in the parade through tableau.
This year invitations were sent out on September 16. The process of shortlisting began in the second week of October.
The participants are given an overarching theme within which they have to showcase elements related to their state, union territory or department.  The theme for this time is 75 years of India’s Independence.
The govt also gives basic guidelines on what the tableaux can or should include
The tableau cannot have any writing or use of logos, except for the name of the state/ UT/ department, which should be written in Hindi on the front, English on the back, and a regional language on the sides.
An export committee of distinguished persons from fields like art, culture, painting, sculpture, music, architecture, choreography is formed.
The states have to first submit a sketch of their tableau design which the committee vets and then makes suggestions for changes.
