The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that Rehan Ahmed, the promising young leg-spinner for England, is returning home from the ongoing five-Test series against India due to personal reasons. The 19-year-old talent, who has claimed 11 wickets at an average of 44 in the first three matches, including 6 wickets the second Test at Visakhapatnam, will be making an immediate return home.
"Rehan Ahmed will return home for personal reasons with immediate effect from England Men's Test tour of India. He will not be returning to India," stated the ECB, marking an early end to Ahmed's campaign in the series.
England have decided against calling up a replacement for Ahmed for the remainder of the series. In light of Ahmed's departure, England announced the inclusion of Shoaib Bashir in the playing XI for the fourth Test, aiming to fill the void left by Ahmed's absence.
With only one match left in the series, England's bowling lineup still includes Tom Hartley, a left-arm spinner who leads the squad's wicket tally with 16 wickets on this tour.
Ahmed's journey in the series was not without its challenges. Earlier in the tour, he encountered visa complications upon his return from a mid-series break in the UAE. Due to a single-entry visa that expired following his departure, Ahmed faced difficulties at Rajkot Airport upon his return. However, the situation was swiftly resolved thanks to efforts by the Indian government and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Currently, India holds a 2-1 lead in the five-Test series. England started strong with a 28-run victory in the opening match but faced setbacks in the subsequent games, losing by margins of 106 and 434 runs.

England skipper Ben Stokes on Wednesday expressed relief after young leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed's visa issue was sorted in quick time due to the intervention of the Indian government and the BCCI.

Ahmed, the spinner of Pakistani descent, had a single-entry visa upon arrival in Rajkot but he was able to complete his paperwork a day before the start of the third Test against India.

England skipper Ben Stokes on Wednesday expressed relief after young leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed's visa issue was sorted in quick time due to the intervention of the Indian government and the BCCI.
Ahmed, the spinner of Pakistani descent, had a single-entry visa upon arrival in Rajkot but he was able to complete his paperwork a day before the start of the third Test against India.
"For any individual having to wait for that is always an anxious period, but thankfully, we got it through this morning, and great job from the guys at the airport for giving him his visa to get through initially, and everyone at the BCCI and the government to get the visa quickly," Stokes said ahead of the third Test.
"We do not have to worry anymore about those issues, we were very confident that we would get the visa for Rehan before the game started," he added.
Earlier, before the start of the series, off-spinner Shoaib Bashir also faced visa issue and arrived in Hyderabad on the third day of the first Test.
Stokes praised Ahmed for handling the situation well.
"There was no thoughts about not playing him this week, the great thing about youth is that they just take everything in their stride," he said.
"He handled a situation that could've affected quite a lot of people in a different way, very well for such a young kid. Rehan, in the Test matches that he has played, he has done very well and he has solved everything that we have asked him," Stokes added.

The local immigration authorities managed to give Rehan Ahmed an interim two-day visa to facilitate his entry, and Pope was optimistic that the entire episode would come to an end sooner than later.

The lack of multiple entry India visa had delayed Rehan Ahmed's exit from the airport after England arrived for the third Test, but the spinner's teammate Ollie Pope hoped that the issue will be resolved ahead of the match, beginning on Thursday.

"Hopefully it (Ahmed's visa issue) will be sorted in a day or so," said Pope while addressing a press conference here on Tuesday.
Ahmed took two wickets in the first Test which England won by 28 runs, while in the second Test at Visakhapatnam he grabbed six wickets but India won by 106 runs to level the five-match series 1-1.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement on Tuesday that the Indian authorities had found some discrepancies in Ahmed's paperwork and that they were working towards resolving it.
"We were advised, on returning to India, that there was paperwork discrepancy with Rehan Ahmed's visa," ESPNcricinfo had quoted the ECB.
"The local authorities at Rajkot Airport were supportive, enabling Rehan's entry on a temporary visa.
The correct visa should be processed and issued in the coming days. He will continue to prepare with the rest of the squad ahead of the third Test," the statement added.
