Red chilli powder is one of the most common spices used in every Indian kitchen. From enhancing colour to adding a subtle kick to the dish, it is majorly used as a tempering spice. However, it can be adulterated with red brick powder or red sand, which is not good for health and the body.

The Food Safety &amp; Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) shared a simple test to find out how red chilli powder is adulterated with red brick powder to save you from such adulteration practices.
Here&rsquo;s how to detect adulteration in red chilli powder :
<ul>
<li>Take a glass of water and add a teaspoon of chilli powder it</li>
<li>Now, take a small quantity of the residue on your palm and rub it well</li>
<li>If you feel any grittiness after rubbing, then the chilli powder is adulterated with brick powder</li>
<li>In case, the residue feels soapy and smooth then it is adulterated with soapstone</li>
