Veteran actors, siblings Ratna Pathak Shah and Supriya Pathak opened up about their perspectives on acting in a recent interview and said that performances shouldn&rsquo;t be restricted by one&rsquo;s appearance. They said regardless of their age, they will continue to act.
 In a conversation with Twinkle Khanna, Ratna said, &lsquo;Soon after I came out of the NSD, I realised that acting is not something that you do while you&rsquo;re young and pretty. For some reason, that was stuck in my head, that as a woman, you act until you&rsquo;re young and pretty.
But then I looked around me and I saw so many female actors who were working well into their old age. I saw actresses all over the world doing absolutely stunning work at all kinds of ages.&rsquo;
 Ratna said that she wanted to act her entire life, without worrying about the way she looked.
 She called out the beauty standards that exist in the industry and added, &lsquo;Women can get really bogged down in this business of looking pretty. I see young girls around me on a set and I really worry for them sometimes because it&rsquo;s such a narrowing vision. It makes you look at yourself in such a narrow way.;
 Supriya said, &lsquo;The only thing that scares or worries you, how is it going to affect you physically. If you&rsquo;re ever going to get down to that state, then I&rsquo;m a little worried about that. Otherwise, growing old is great.&rsquo;
 Ratna further added, &lsquo;It&rsquo;s also true that today, a woman my age, one, gets work, and two, gets respect. Nobody looks down on me and says, &lsquo;Arre, bechari buddhi.&lsquo;&rsquo;

Now, veteran actor Ratna Pathak Shah, who is all set to make her Gujarati debut with 'Kutch Express', talked about the ongoing controversy in an exclusive interview with Indian Express.
Addressing the issue, she said, 'I would say we are living in very silly times, if these are the things that are on top of your mind. It isn&rsquo;t something that I would like to talk about very much or give much credence to.'
The actor added, 'But I am hoping that there are many more sensible people in India than are visible at the moment. They will come through, because what is happening, this sense of fear, sense of exclusion is not sustainable.'
'I feel humans cannot sustain hate beyond a point. There is an uprise, but then you get exhausted with hate. I am waiting for that day to come. Look at our country, the pandemic has wiped-out small-scale manufacturing in our country, people don&rsquo;t have enough to eat, and we are fussing over who is wearing what clothes?' she concluded.
She has also talked about SS Rajamouli's magnum opus 'RRR' and as quoted by Free Press Journal the actor said, 'Films like RRR are so popular today. But it's a regressive film. It looks backward while we should look forward. We just feel whatever we are doing is good because we are part of the mother of democracy &mdash; India.'
Ratna Pathak Shah&rsquo;s 'Kutch Express' is scheduled to release on January 6.

Speaking about the association, Ajit Andhare (COO-Viacom18 Studios) said, “Dhak Dhak’ is a heart-warming story of four women undertaking a trip breaking out of their cocoons & discovering themselves through this journey of introspection & adventure. This was the perfect script and resonates well with the DNA of our storytelling.”
The film’s producer Taapsee Pannu added, “At Outsiders Films, we aim to produce films that are meaningful and entertaining. We have attempted to give audiences a visual experience that they have rarely seen on screen. ‘Dhak Dhak’ narrates the story of four women who realize that freedom has to be owned and never given. Viacom18 Studios has been a crucial part of my journey in the film industry from ‘Chashme Baddoor’, ‘Shabaash Mithu’ and now to ‘Dhak Dhak’. In Viacom18 Studios and Ajit, we have a partner who has a great foresight towards differentiated cinema. I am sure that this ride will be an enriching one.”
The film stars Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ratna Pathak Shah, Dia Mirza and Sanjana Sanghi as its protagonists. ‘Dhak Dhak’ has been co-written by Parijat Joshi and Tarun Dudeja.
The film, which is presently under production, will hit cinema screens in 2023.

More than 200 educationists, filmmakers and authors, including Noam Chomsky and Mira Nair, have issued a joint statement demanding the Centre free Umar Khalid arrested in connection with the northeast Delhi riots. Besides Chomsky and Nair, the signatories include actor Ratna Pathak Shah, authors Amitav Ghosh, Salman Rushdie and Arundhati Roy, and journalist P Sainath. Khalid has been arrested under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in a case related to the communal violence in northeast Delhi in February this year.

New Delhi, PTI: More than 200 educationists, filmmakers and authors, including Noam Chomsky and Mira Nair, have issued a joint statement demanding the Centre free Umar Khalid arrested in connection with the northeast Delhi riots.
Besides Chomsky and Nair, the signatories include actor Ratna Pathak Shah, authors Amitav Ghosh, Salman Rushdie and Arundhati Roy, and journalist P Sainath.
"We call on the Government of India to free Umar Khalid and all those falsely implicated and unjustly incarcerated for protesting against the CAA-NRC that denies equal citizenship rights and to ensure that the Delhi Police investigates the Delhi riots with impartiality under the oath they took as public servants bound by the Constitution of India," the statement read.
Khalid has been arrested under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in a case related to the communal violence in northeast Delhi in February this year.
"We stand in solidarity and outrage, with the brave young scholar and activist Umar Khalid, arrested in New Delhi on September 14, 2020, under fabricated charges of engineering the Delhi riots in February 2020," the statement said.
The statement said that Khalid "used the passion of his commitment to his country, marshalled his education and his voice to join the movement for equal citizenship, against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA)" which introduced religion as a criterion for citizenship, and has no place in a secular nation.
The Delhi Police had on September 13 said it is investigating the role of all individuals who took part in the February riots and were behind the larger conspiracy of organising violence and inciting communal passion amongst communities.
Delhi Police Commissioner S N Shrivastava had last week said the force has collected documentary evidence, including scientific evidence, to support its case in connection with the riots.
He said that the police have so far arrested 1,571 people irrespective of their caste or religion and they are almost equally distributed among both communities.
