In neighbouring Anantapuramu district, 10 people stranded in the Chitravati river flood at Veldurthi village were rescued by the Indian Air Force personnel, who specially flew in from Yelahanka Air Force Station in Karnataka.
The IAF team carried out a winching operation using a Mi-17 helicopter to rescue the ten people, who were stuck in a JCB.
The JCB had earlier in the afternoon gone to rescue four people in a car caught in the Chitravati flood but, as the flood turned menacing, six of those in it and the four car passengers got stuck.
The Anantapuramu district administration sent an SOS to the IAF, following which the rescue operation was carried out successfully.

Mumbai and its suburbs witnessed incessant rains overnight leading to flooding and waterlogging in parts of the city. The devastation caused by rains reminded some Mumbaikars of the 24-hour rainfall figure of 944 mm on July 26, 2005.&nbsp;

Eyes on the skies for good news as rains continue&nbsp;to be delayed, the Southwest Monsoon has not advanced further since June 19. That however could end soon, expect rains to come in as the Monsoon is&nbsp;expected to revive from July 8.&nbsp;But even as temperature rise the average rainfall uptil now has been above average.&nbsp;&nbsp;For India as a whole, the cumulative rainfall was 4% greater than the LPA (long period average) as of 3 July, the rainfall across regions is broadly at par with the all-India average as per IMD&nbsp;data.
Focus shifts from temperatures to agriculture with&nbsp;Kharif (summer) crop declined by 21.6%YoY as of 25 June, 2021, making the area sown this year 18.9% of the normal area sown vs 24.1% last year. But July will be the crucial month to watch.&nbsp;&nbsp;The country receives a third of the season's rainfall in the month of July. The bulk of sowing activity is also carried out during the month. Hence, the trend in July will be crucial to assess the impact on agriculture production and food inflation.&nbsp;

Guwahati Durga Puja: Devotees Brave Bad Weather

Rains and COVID have not been able to dampen the spirit of devotees on Maha Ashthami of Durga Puja. Though the scale is small, idol sizes are exceptionally small and presence of people at the mandaps are extremely less, the devotion and excitement cannot be missed. The Kahilipara Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee is celebrating the 36th Puja this time and devotees have been trickling in since morning.
