Chipmaker TSMC has reportedly approved a $2.89 billion spending plan to expand its manufacturing capacity amid the ongoing global chip shortage.

Chipmaker TSMC has reportedly approved a $2.89 billion spending plan to expand its manufacturing capacity amid the ongoing global chip shortage. TSMC had previously said that despite expanding manufacturing the chip shortage will continue into 2022. The world's largest contract chipmaker has clients that include the likes of tech giants Apple and Qualcomm.

Reports say the upgraded Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus chipset is expected to launch in the second half of 2021.

Reports say the upgraded Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus chipset is expected to launch in the second half of 2021, with the regular 888 SoC having launched in early December 2020. Qualcomm's overclocked upgrade for its flagship chipset for the year is usually launched in July each year, as seen with the 855 Plus in July 2019, and the 865 Plus launch in July 2020.

Jio, Qualcomm partner to rollout 5G network in India

During a virtual 5G summit on Tuesday, Qualcomm and Reliance Jio Platforms announced that&nbsp;they were working together to develop indigenous 5G solutions and network infrastructure for India.&nbsp;Qualcomm Technologies and Jio also announced that they achieved over a 1 Gbps milestone on the Reliance Jio 5GNR solution and the Qualcomm 5G RAN Platform. This will enable 5G network infrastructure and services in India. Qualcomm further noted that its portfolio of 5G RAN Platforms is designed to provide a foundation for flexible, virtualized, scalable, and interoperable cellular network infrastructure.&nbsp;
