The app was banned in India alongside 117 other apps in September 2020, and remains banned despite developers making significant changes including having changed the name to PUBG Mobile India.

Responses to two different RTI applications have revealed that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has not granted any permission to PUBG Mobile India. While PUBG corp announced last month that a specific game called PUBG Mobile India will be brought to the country, the Ministry has reportedly denied giving permission to any website, mobile apps or service with this name. PUBG Mobile was banned in the country in September along with other Chinese apps for reportedly engaging in activities prejudicial to India's sovereignty.

PUBG Corporation, the South Korean publisher and developer of the blockbuster battle royale game, has decided to withdraw the license of PUBG Mobile from Chinese firm Tencent Games in India. This comes after India&rsquo;s ban of 118 Chinese apps and games, including PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite, last week. The company said in a statement that it hopes &ldquo;to work hand-in-hand&rdquo; with the government to restore the game in the country while being fully compliant with Indian laws and regulations. Moving forward, PUBG Corp will take on all publishing responsibilities within the country.&nbsp;
