Filmmaker Pradeep Sarkar, who helmed movies like &lsquo;Parineeta&rsquo;, &lsquo;Laga Chunari Mein Daag&rsquo;, &lsquo;Mardaani&rsquo; and &lsquo;Helicopter Eela&rsquo;, passed away at 3.30 am on March 24. According to Times of India, he was on dialysis and his potassium levels had dropped drastically. His last rites will be held at a crematorium in Santacruz at 4 pm today.

Celebrities like Vidya Balan, Rani Mukerji, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Dia Mirza, Sakshi Tanwar, Rhea Chakraborty Divyanka Tripathi, and others arrived at the crematorium for the funeral.

His next three feature films were &lsquo;Laaga Chunari Mein Daag&rsquo;, &lsquo;Lafangey Parindey&rsquo;, and &lsquo;Mardaani&rsquo; which were all produced by Yashraj Films. His last film, &lsquo;Eela&rsquo;, starring Kajol, was released in October 2018.

Director-writer Pradeep Sarkar was born on April 30, 1955, in Kolkata, India. He began his career with Vinod Chopra Productions. Pradeep graduated from Delhi College of Art in 1979 with a gold medal. Before starting his career as a director and ad-filmmaker in Indian Cinema, he spent 17 years in mainstream advertising as Creative Director &ndash; Art.
His production house shot out highly successful commercials; Tata Yellow Pages, ICICI Prudential, and Onida KY Thunder to name a few. The Aaj Tak TV commercials, shot in Black and White, won him the Rapa, and the Best Director of the Year Award at the Abby&rsquo;s.
Apart from commercials, Sarkar was also one of the most sought-after and prolific music video directors in the country. Shubha Mudgal&rsquo;s 'Ab Ke Saawan', Euphoria&rsquo;s 'Dhoom Pichak Dhoom' and 'Maaeri', Sultan Khan&rsquo;s &lsquo;Piya Basanti&rsquo; and Bhupen Hazarika&rsquo;s &lsquo;Ganga&rsquo; went on to become benchmarks of excellence in visual appeal and storytelling.

Pradeep Sarkar's film industry colleagues took to social media to pay tributes.
Actor Neetu Chandra confirmed the news of the director&rsquo;s demise to Times of India and revealed she received a text informing her of his passing. Neetu said that Pradeep Sarkar was her first director, they first worked together in an advertisement for a footwear brand while she was still in college.
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta took to Twitter and shared a picture of Pradeep. He wrote, &lsquo;Pradeep Sarkar. Dada. RIP.&rsquo;
Sharing Hansal's tweet, actor Manoj Bajpayee wrote, &lsquo;Ohh! That&rsquo;s so shocking! Rest in peace Dada!! (folded hands emoji).&rsquo;
Ajay Devgn tweeted, 'The news of Pradeep Sarkar&rsquo;s demise, &lsquo;Dada&rsquo; to some of us is still hard to digest. My deepest condolences. My prayers are with the departed and his family. RIP Dada.'
Besides movies, Pradeep Sarkar also directed several web series such as &lsquo;Coldd Lassi Aur Chicken Masala&rsquo; (2019), &lsquo;Arranged Marriage and Forbidden Love&rsquo; (2020), and &lsquo;Duranga&rsquo; (2022).
