A poll of nearly 2,600 pilots by UK-based GOOSE Recruitment and industry publication FlightGlobal, released on Thursday, found only 43% were doing the job they had trained for, with 30% unemployed, 17% furloughed and 10% in non-flying roles. The survey also found those that are still flying feel less valued by their employers. Many airlines have instituted permanent pay cut or have temporarily lowered salaries. According to the survey, 82% of unemployed pilots would take a pay cut for a new opportunity.

An Air India's all-women crew made history on Monday as the longest direct route flight landed at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru from San Francisco. The crew flew over the North Pole and covered a distance of about 16,000 kilometres on the 17-hour flight. Air India said this was the longest commercial flight in the world to be operated by it or any other airline in India. Today, we created world history by not only flying over the North Pole but also by having all women pilots who successfully did it. We are extremely happy and proud to be part of it. This route has saved 10 tonnes of fuel: Captain Zoya Aggarwal at Bengaluru airport.

Flight Lieutenant Shivangi Singh from Varanasi is set to become India&rsquo;s first woman fighter pilot to fly the Rafale aircraft that was formally inducted into the Indian Air Force on September 10, officials confirmed. She is undergoing conversion training to fly the Rafale jet and will soon join the Ambala-based No. 17 squadron, also known as &ldquo;Golden Arrows.&rdquo; The officer, who is one of IAF&rsquo;s 10 women fighter pilots, joined the air force in 2017 and has been flying the MiG-21 Bison aircraft ever since.
