The Supreme Court on Tuesday while hearing petitions seeking a thorough investigation into the Pegasus scandal, issued a notice to the centre, saying the government should reply on snooping allegations. The government has however said it has "nothing to hide from the court"
The apex court added that it will decide on forming a probe committee to examine the allegations only after getting the centre's response.
Government top lawyer Tushar Mehta argued against putting out facts of the Pegasus case in the public domain citing national security.

Centre denies Pegasus snooping allegations and told the SC that a committee will be set up for probe

During a hearing in the Supreme Court the Centre on Monday denied snooping allegations against the government and said it will set up a committee to probe the Pegasus issue.
In a two-page affidavit the government &lsquo;unequivocally&rsquo; denied allegations which it said is &lsquo;based on conjectures and surmises or on other unsubstantiated media reports or incomplete or uncorroborated material&rsquo;.

Petitioners claimed that the government used military-grade spyware to snoop on journalists, politicians, activists and court staff.
The government told the apex court that all snooping allegations will be examined by a group of experts to dispel any wrong narrative.
After an international media consortium reported that over 300 verified Indian mobile phone numbers were on the list of potential targets for surveillance using Pegasus spyware, several petitions have been filed seeking an independent probe into the alleged snooping case
